Hekate was not confused for long before Star gave her the answer.
Breaking through to become a Formal Mage had increased her Star Language Ability once more. She could now use it four times a day.
The Uruk Kingdom had already noticed these ill-intentioned assassins and placed them under surveillance. Betty had learned that they planned to assassinate talented individuals throughout Lundria on a large scale. She had been forcibly taken back to the royal palace at noon today, so she could only have a maid write you a warning letter, telling you not to go out much lately.
"So that's what happened. I thought this country had been infiltrated by enemy nations like a sieve. I was scaring myself for nothing." Hekate shook her head.
Although this assassin was already under the Uruk Kingdom's surveillance, she still could not rest easy knowing that one was preparing to take her life. Besides, she had to go out with her family tomorrow. Under these circumstances, there was no way she could entrust her personal safety to the Uruk Kingdom.
After pondering for a moment, Hekate opened the Star Chain ability on her status list.
A newly resonated Star of Magic hung there alone. Its resonance effect increased spell power by 100%. This was the first star she had successfully resonated with after breaking through to become a Formal Mage.
The resonance effect could be activated at any time, but while in resonance, stars would orbit around her body, making her extremely conspicuous. Therefore, Hekate normally kept the resonance state turned off.
Now that she intended to deal with this assassin, she needed the enhancement effect of the Resonance Star.
Since the other party dared to come to Lundria so openly to kill, their strength was surely not lacking.
An azure starlight emerged and began orbiting around her. Hekate immediately activated the Fire Curse Technique, targeting Bobby Philis.
Lundria, inside an ordinary house south of the capital.
Bobby Philis was lying low here with his companions, waiting for the signal to go out together and kill those magical geniuses.
All of a sudden, the quiet night was pierced by the fierce sound of burning!
Bobby's body erupted into flames in an instant. Frightened, he hurriedly activated defensive magic, but even so, a large patch of his skin was scorched black. The pain made him howl.
"What happened?"
The companions around him were equally startled. Bobby was still surrounded by flames, groaning in agony behind the protection of his defensive magic.
"It's curse magic! Hurry and counterattack the caster!"
"I'll do it!" A mage assassin activated his magic power and began countering the curse magic.
"Have we been discovered? Otherwise, why would curse magic hit Bobby so precisely?"
"Then should we run now?"
"Can you stop talking over there? Hurry up and help me put out the fire!" Bobby shouted.
"Wait, Wood is countering the curse magic. Since they dared to curse you, they should be prepared for us to curse them back!"
At that moment, Wood opened his eyes, his face pale, and said with a tremble, "My counter-curse isn't working. The other party is far stronger than me! We've been discovered!"
Panic rose in everyone's hearts. They exchanged glances, then immediately abandoned Bobby and fled the house.
However, the watchers hidden in the dark struck like lightning. Before long, they had cut down all the assassins where they stood.
The leading mage looked at the corpses covering the ground in confusion. "Why did these people suddenly run? Did they know we were watching them?"
"Commander Addison, there's still an assassin inside. His entire body is burning, and he appears to have been struck by the Fire Curse Technique," a magic soldier reported as he approached.
Following the soldier inside, he immediately saw the flames blazing fiercely as they rolled about the room.
The firelight danced wildly like a Demon, illuminating the entire house.
"Please, save me..." The man cried out hoarsely, his voice filled with despair and terror.
The unceasing flames had nearly burned through the Magic Shield around him. The searing heat mercilessly roasted his body, causing his skin to rapidly swell and turn a horrifying blood-red.
Addison turned a blind eye to it. He crouched down and began tracing the Fire Curse Technique in reverse, wanting to see who had ruined his plans.
Yet the result of his reverse tracing was a dark Starry Sky, countless starlights hanging above the night curtain, nearly blinding him.
Clearly, the person who had cast this curse was an expert.
Though he did not know why the other party had used an apprentice spell like the Fire Curse Technique to torment someone, it was best not to offend such an expert if possible.
Addison kicked Bobby's Magic Shield apart, allowing the Fire Curse Technique's power to fully erupt over his body. Before long, Bobby was burned into a lump of charcoal.
"How are the other hideouts?"
"According to reports, they don't know about what happened here yet."
"Then have them close the net."
Since something had happened here, the assassins at the other locations would soon find out. Before they could escape, they would take down as many as possible.
Inside Grants Academy.
Hekate's face was somewhat pale, and her body swayed unsteadily. Even after exhausting all her magic power, she had failed to burn the other party to death. Only by draining her magic power through sacrificing her lifespan had she finally managed to kill him.
She did not know how much lifespan she had sacrificed, but the weakness in her body was now so intense that she wanted nothing more than to collapse onto the bed and sleep.
Just what level of mage was that guy? Why did I have to burn him for so long?
Hekate grumbled inwardly, then went downstairs to bathe.
Seeing Hekate looking so thoroughly drained, Gina asked anxiously, "Young master, what's wrong? Are you injured?!"
Raman, standing nearby, also rose with a serious expression.
"I'm fine. I just failed while practicing magic and suffered backlash. I'll be alright after some rest." Hekate made up an excuse without hesitation, waving her hand to put the two servants at ease.
"Young master, how can you bathe in that condition? Let me help you!" Gina said worriedly.
Hekate hurriedly straightened her back, pretending that nothing was wrong. With a chuckle, she said, "Don't worry. A little magical backlash scared you that badly? Don't you believe in your young master's strength?"
Gina said aggrievedly, "I do..."
It took some effort to make Gina give up on the idea of attending to her before Hekate finally entered the bathroom, removed her clothes, and immersed herself in the warm water.
Hekate relaxed against the bathtub.
With the Star Guard ability, my curse magic can't be reverse-traced, nor can other mages curse me back. So in the future, my combat magic should focus on curse magic.
Of course, I can't neglect training my Magic Level. If my Magic Level had been a little higher, I wouldn't have needed to sacrifice my lifespan tonight.
