"Whoosh!"
An arrow shot straight over. The burly man swung the ring-pommel saber in his hand and easily knocked it aside. Ordinary soldiers could not shoot this far, and for generals wielding fine bows, the distance was no obstacle at all.
Of course, these selected men were no pushovers either... But that did not stop them from asking the soldiers nearby for a suit of armor and putting it on in full view of everyone on the city wall.
The defending commander on the wall was no expert either. Seeing this, he felt a toothache coming on. Even from this distance, he truly did not think he could shoot through that armor.
"Don't believe their nonsense! How could this kind of armor possibly be issued to the entire army? They're obviously trying to deceive us. We mustn't fall for it!" The commander had no way to silence the man shouting below, and he could not plug the ears of the defenders on the wall either. All he could do was awkwardly say things he himself did not believe.
The burly man was in no hurry. He had anticipated this situation long ago. Only after the defenders on the wall finished speaking did he continue shouting, "Since this gentleman says we're trying to deceive you, let's give everyone a demonstration!"
At his command, groups of four hundred men began filing out. As they walked past below the wall, they struck their breastplates with their ring-pommel sabers, making them clang loudly. For a full half hour, all of them circled around beneath the wall. Forget the defenders on the wall—even the defending commander grew numb with dread listening to that clanging for half an hour.
As for morale... what was that?
"Brothers on the wall, your lives belong to you. Once we
