Territory and Capital

  • Original territory: Already the largest nation on Douluo Continent before its conquest of the Heaven Dou Empire 652.
  • Territorial expansion: After annexing Heaven Dou, its territory reaches roughly twice Star Luo’s size and nearly three times Dou Ling’s 652.
  • Mingdou Mountain Range: A strategic border barrier whose capture allows the empire to threaten Star Luo while directing its main offensive toward Heaven Dou 562 616.
  • Extreme North: The empire attempts to extract Rare Metals and move troops through the region, but encounters devastating resistance from its soul beasts 579 584 702 706.

Mingdu

  • Mingdu’s illuminated skyline includes extensive buildings taller than five stories and numerous structures exceeding ten stories—architecture unfamiliar to visitors from the Three Douluo Kingdoms 306.
  • The capital has no city walls and is described as the continent’s greatest city 489.
  • Its concentration of Soul Engineers supports high consumption levels and a wealthy urban economy 486.
  • Its imperial palace is eventually repurposed as Mingdu’s municipal government offices, with conversion into a tourist attraction planned 806.

Government and Institutions

Imperial Authority

The Xu family’s rule is vulnerable to both palace coups and powerful imperial relatives. The old emperor obtained the throne through rebellion; Prince Xu Guozhong was one of that rebellion’s core planners. Xu Guozhong later controls a highly classified arsenal whose supplies require a personal imperial decree to transfer, placing them beyond Crown Prince Xu Tianran’s independent authority 528 532.

After the Mingdu bombing nearly eliminates the direct imperial succession line, Kong Deming assumes the duties of Regent to prevent rebellion and fragmentation. The Holy Spirit Cult exploits this crisis by restoring Xu Tianran as a controlled Corpse Puppet rather than a living ruler 532 539 540.

Principal Figures

  • Xu Tianran — Crown Prince and effective power behind the throne before his death; seeks continental unification and plans to use tournament participants as leverage against their sects and academies 507 695.
  • Corpse Puppet Xu Tianran — Publicly enthroned as emperor after the Mingdu bombing; controlled by the Holy Spirit Cult, including Zhong Liwu 539 540 645.
  • Ju Zi — Grand Marshal, later Empress God of War and Empress Dowager; directs the eastern campaigns and the empire’s final defensive preparations 556 712 756.
  • Kong Deming — Chief Consecrator, leading Soul Tool researcher, and Regent; remains committed to preserving the Xu family and eventually chooses retreat and conditional surrender over further futile losses 532 634 801.
  • Zhong Liwu — Holy Spirit Cult leader and Imperial Advisor; controls the puppet emperor while pursuing the cult’s dominance over the empire 616 645.
  • Young emperor — Succeeds the officially deceased puppet Xu Tianran; Jing Hongchen regards him as another figurehead for the court’s dominant powers 712 758.

Royal Academy and Mingde Hall

  • Sun Moon Royal Soul Engineer Academy: Directly governed by the imperial family and managed on a semi-military basis. Enrollment entails an oath of loyalty to the royal family 351.
  • Compulsory service: Graduates of royal institutions must obey conscription orders regardless of their later professions 707.
  • Mingde Hall: The empire’s premier Soul Tool research institution; every Sun Moon Rank 9 Soul Engineer comes from its associated royal academy 328 756.
  • Training monopoly: State-run academies produce approximately ninety-nine percent of the empire’s Soul Engineers. Private institutions remain few and comparatively weak 756.
  • Power Supply Team: Mingde Hall depends on workers who repeatedly exhaust and replenish their Soul Power. This damages their meridians irreversibly and ends their cultivation progress 328.

Economy and Resources

Rare Metals

  • The Sun Moon homeland produces more than ninety percent of the Rare Metal supply identified in the continental war context 787.
  • Restrictions on Rare Metal sales and distribution allow the empire to constrain Shrek’s Soul Tool Department for thousands of years 407 420 756.
  • Three elite national-protector legions are permanently stationed around border regions, complicating unauthorized trade 420.
  • Its Soul Engineer Corps consume Rare Metals on a large scale. Qian Chaoguang identifies Heaven Dou’s mineral veins as a key reason the empire targets that nation first 562.

Production and Trade

Despite its technological lead, the empire relies heavily on handcrafted Soul Tools rather than standardized factory production. Individual Soul Engineers determine their own manufacturing practices, limiting industrial efficiency 304 507.

The bottleneck becomes explicit when officials estimate that fully equipping two additional three-hundred-man corps will require another half year, even with every production workshop operating at capacity. Pharmaceutical research produces low-ranking Soul Masters faster than workshops can equip them 645.

  • Pharmaceutical cultivation: Medicines allow large numbers of recruits to reach Soul Elder or Soul Ancestor rank, compensating for the empire’s relative shortage of high-level Soul Masters 645.
  • Pixiu Merchant Association: Becomes the empire’s foremost private-sector business partner through superior manufacturing capacity, sales methods, and benefit-sharing 707.
  • Hidden dependence: Pixiu and the Eternal God Cult are both tied to Qian Chaoguang. Their economic and social influence later helps the Undead Empire absorb conquered Sun Moon territory 743 796.

Military

Combat Doctrine

  • Soul Engineer Corps: Concentrate Soul Tool firepower, linked defenses, and coordinated attacks rather than relying solely on individual Martial Soul strength 563 656.
  • Soul Tool Array Positions: Combine broad cannon bombardment with concentrated Soul Tool Rays to punish both approaching enemies and attackers who penetrate the perimeter 563.
  • Energy reserves: Sealed Milk Bottles allow lower-ranking Soul Engineers to operate intermediate Soul Tools and sustain prolonged bombardment 563.
  • Reconnaissance: High-altitude, thermal, and ground detection tools create extensive surveillance networks along occupied borders 562 652.
  • High-end support: Rank 9 Soul Engineers and Holy Spirit Cult experts provide the army’s principal elite combat strength during the eastern expedition 570.
  • Mobilization: Royal academy graduates and other state-trained Soul Engineers are recalled for military production and defense 707 756.

Documented Deployments

Campaign Forces committed
Initial siege of Heaven Dou City Two hundred thousand troops, seven Soul Engineer Corps, and four Beast King Level corps from the Hand of the Nation Protector 566.
Later Star Luo–Dou Ling campaign Ju Zi leads seven Soul Engineer legions and four hundred thousand soldiers against Star Luo’s western frontier 706.
Major invasion of Star Luo Twelve Soul Engineer Corps and five hundred thousand troops; four corps and two hundred thousand soldiers remain in occupied Dou Ling 737.
Encirclement of Star Luo City One million troops, eighteen elite Soul Engineer Corps including five Beast King Level corps, and ten High-Energy Compressed Array Soul Tools 738.

Soul Tool Technology

Technology Capabilities and limitations
Offensive Level Nine Soul Tools At the Mingdu tournament, only the Sun Moon Empire and Shrek possess these weapons. Mingde Hall products above Level Seven rarely reach public markets 486.
Linked Soul Tools Pool corps-level firepower and defense. Circular Linkage is specifically designed to respond when an enemy penetrates a formation’s interior 645 656.
High-Energy Compressed Array Soul Tools Legion-scale weapons capable, with sufficient Level Nine Fixed Soul Cannonballs, of trapping and killing even Limit Douluo 507.
Light-energy conversion and storage Kong Deming’s researchers learn to absorb sunlight, store it, and convert it into Soul Power. Early equipment is cumbersome and inefficient 737 787.
Soul Tool Ray Guns for ordinary soldiers Light-energy technology enables soldiers without Soul Power to operate certain low-level weapons, greatly increasing conventional infantry lethality 738.
Humanoid Soul Tools Early suits are bulky and provide poor amplification compared with the Undead Empire’s armor. Some stronger prototypes consume lifespan, impair intelligence, or risk insanity 654.
Silver Moon Divine Light Shield Kong Deming’s creation can elevate a Super Douluo’s combat capability to the Limit Douluo level 656.
Death God Tower A quasi-Level 10 weapon associated with Ye Xishui; requires Vengeful Spirits. Huo Yutong estimates its reserves implicate the empire in the murder of more than two hundred thousand people 694.
Satellite Soul Tools Provide fixed long-range communication between major cities, but are scarce and restricted; distant expeditionary forces still rely on airborne couriers 645 797.

Technical Weaknesses

  • Close-combat weapons initially prioritize Core Magic Arrays over structural metallurgy, making them brittle when struck by Qian Chaoguang’s forged blades 510.
  • The empire does not fully exploit Soul Tools for industrialization and civilian economic development, despite their potential to overwhelm its rivals’ agrarian economies 507.
  • Detection tools lack automatic defensive responses sophisticated enough to stop the Undead Empire’s high-altitude raids 799.
  • Undead jamming devices disable Soul Tool Array Positions and disrupt High-Energy Compressed Array Soul Tools during the final campaign 800 802.

History

Earlier Expansion and Dynastic Conflict

Four thousand years before the main continental war, Shrek Academy’s rallying call defeats Sun Moon’s attempt to annex Douluo Continent. This precedent continues to shape imperial caution about attacking Shrek directly 645.

A later palace coup establishes the old emperor’s rule. He Caitou is ultimately identified as Xu He, the former Crown Prince who disappeared during that coup 528 532 806.

Academy Rivalry and Exchange

The royal academy competes with Shrek in the Continental Advanced Soul Master Academy Soul Fighting Competition. Both are feared opponents, but Shrek defeats the Sun Moon team during its unbeaten advance and later faces it in the final 187 238 259.

An exchange program subsequently brings Qian Chaoguang and Shrek’s Soul Tool students to the royal academy. Their stay exposes both the empire’s research advantages and the political risks of its royal administration 304 305 318 351.

An attack on Mingde Hall prompts a kill-on-sight order against the Body Sect. The old emperor’s health worsens after hearing the news, while Jing Hongchen publicly loses his Duke title 349 352.

Mingdu Tournament and Decapitation Operation

The empire hosts a revised tournament admitting sect teams and removing the flight-height restriction. The change favors Soul Engineers equipped with Flying Soul Tools 464 491.

Xu Tianran plans to seize the younger generation as leverage over competing factions. Shrek, Star Luo, Heaven Dou, and the Body Sect instead coordinate a Decapitation Operation. Explosions devastate the imperial palace and royal academy, while Qian Chaoguang empties a highly classified arsenal 528 530 695.

Kong Deming stabilizes the resulting leadership crisis. One month later, “Xu Tianran” ascends the throne and orders reconstruction, but the new emperor is actually a Holy Spirit Cult Corpse Puppet 532 539 540.

Eastern Expedition

Ju Zi becomes Grand Marshal and opens the war with an attack on Star Luo’s western border. Level Nine Fixed Soul Cannonballs breach the Mingdou Mountain Range, allowing Sun Moon forces to occupy its fortresses 556 561 562.

The attack is a strategic feint: the main campaign turns toward Heaven Dou and its mineral resources. Within less than a month, the territory west of Heaven Dou City falls. A costly battle at the capital forces Ju Zi to withdraw rather than risk a wider rout, but the expedition continues elsewhere 562 566 572.

The empire also loses three Soul Engineer regiments in the Extreme North. Ju Zi escapes, but her military prestige collapses 584 616.

Shrek later helps Star Luo regain the Mingdou defensive line. Despite that setback, Sun Moon continues conquering Heaven Dou territory. An Earth Dragon Overturn destroys the remaining province’s ability to resist, and the imperial court proposes using disaster relief and anti-Shrek propaganda to consolidate its gains 631 634 645.

Infiltration and Renewed Conquest

Beibei negotiates the Tang Sect’s apparent defection under a detailed binding treaty. Sun Moon grants it land in Mingdu, commissions Zhuge Divine Crossbow Cannons, and publicizes the surrender. In reality, Undead Empire personnel control the sect’s decision-making and use the arrangement to gather intelligence 667 669.

A subsequent two-front offensive fails to break Dou Ling’s northern defenses, which benefit from Undead armaments and Shrek support. Further defeats in the Extreme North damage Sun Moon’s supply network and force another period of preparation 702 706 707.

Light-energy storage and improved compressed-array technology eventually restore the empire’s advantage. Dou Ling falls, and a major invasion drives Star Luo into retreat. The transformed Royal Soul Engineer Corps penetrates Star Luo’s heartland, while simultaneous border offensives isolate its remaining territory 712 737.

Defeat at Star Luo City

Sun Moon surrounds Star Luo City with its largest documented army. Star Luo ultimately surrenders and hands Dai Hao over, but Qian Chaoguang intervenes and reveals his identity as the Lord of Light 738 741.

The Undead Legion defeats the imperial army. Sun Moon loses the Royal Soul Engineer Corps, more than half its ordinary soldier legions, and one-third of its Soul Engineer forces. The Holy Spirit Cult is nearly wiped out, and Long Xiaoyao and Ye Xishui perish 756.

Ju Zi recalls forces from the occupied territories and concentrates Soul Engineers and compressed-array weapons at the Mingdou Mountain Range for a final defense 756 757.

Collapse and Annexation

The Undead Empire’s prolonged bombardment drains the Mingdou fortress’s Soul Power reserves. Ju Zi’s attempt to lure the enemy closer fails, and Kong Deming takes supreme command as the defensive position deteriorates 789 790 792.

After the mountain defenses fall, Sun Moon withdraws into its heartland. The Undead Empire rapidly occupies the south, while aerial raids destroy surveillance tools and jamming equipment disrupts the defenses around Sky Star City 796 799 800.

Kong Deming’s final attack expends all thirty remaining Level Nine Fixed Soul Cannonballs without seriously damaging the enemy tank army. He entrusts Ye Yulin with retreat orders and a conditional surrender document, choosing preservation over further sacrifice. Kong subsequently dies before Sky Star City 801 802 804.

Only Mingdu remains by the final confrontation. Liu TieZhu leads the remaining resistance and meets Qian Chaoguang on the battlefield. The eventual Undead takeover places the royal academy and palace under new administration 804 805 806.

Foreign Relations

  • Shrek Academy — Technological and political rival, exchange-program partner, and the principal obstacle to continental unification. Its continental influence repeatedly discourages a direct imperial assault 243 318 620 645 741.
  • Star Luo Empire — Border rival and final major target of conquest; its surrender at Star Luo City precedes Qian Chaoguang’s intervention 561 738 741.
  • Heaven Dou / Heavenly Soul Empire — Main initial conquest target because of its mineral resources and comparatively weaker inherited foundations 562 645.
  • Dou Ling Empire — Targeted through northern offensives and an attack on Lingdou City; later fully occupied 654 658 706 737.
  • Holy Spirit Cult — Supplies elite fighters but converts military cooperation into political control. Kong Deming opposes its ambition to become the empire’s true ruler 532 570 634 758.
  • Undead Empire — Hidden supplier and infiltrator through the Tang Sect, Pixiu Merchant Association, and Eternal God Cult; ultimately defeats and annexes Sun Moon 669 707 743 796 805.

Legacy

  • Sun Moon Academy: Retains a planned specialization in Soul Tool research and manufacture within the Undead Empire’s reorganized Imperial University system 805.
  • Imperial palace: Its stored resources are reclaimed, and its defensive Soul Tools are stripped of their Core Magic Arrays 806.
  • Soul Engineering inheritance: Sun Moon’s research becomes part of the technological foundation available to its conqueror, including compressed-array systems that the Undead Empire further improves 718.
  • Former-state designation: Later characters refer to both Sun Moon and Star Luo as former empires 809.
