The colors that had previously remained invisible and untouchable, existing in higher dimensions, could finally be seen—or rather, Ruben wanted them to be seen.
The colored sludge that had previously wrapped around Ruben like a defensive barrier was now given a "form" and fully unfurled.

or like a river of color capable of breeding chaotic creations,
