The Ending

From beginning to end, Lorien had never trusted anyone—not even William, with whom he had established a long-term working relationship.

After all, it had been William who requested that they go to Middle-Earth.

Given William's personality and his usual way of doing things, it was entirely possible that he had planted contingencies in Middle-Earth ahead of time, mobilized the circus employees to temporarily create Hidden Village, and even arranged for the Lung Dragon.
