Director Cao's real name was Cao Zhenghong.
She was the director of the administrative office at Black Mountain Orphanage and the head of Research Institute No. 1. Yi Chen only gradually learned of the latter identity as he grew older.
In Director Cao's eyes, aside from outstanding students who met Yi Chen's standards and qualified to retain their human bodies, the rest of the inferior students were better suited for modification—a practice also known as "making use of waste."
Some orphans who made serious mistakes in class or daily life, and who were no longer worth educational resources, would become research materials. The unluckiest among them would be sent to Director Cao's institute.
A series of inhuman experiments awaited them. Their personalities would completely collapse during the experiments, and they would ultimately become grotesque beings that obeyed Director Cao in every way.
The Watchdog, Mop Face, and the Night Shift Teacher were all products of Research Institute No. 1.
Director Cao's influence had also seeped into every corner of the orphanage. Even though she rarely appeared in person, she
