Affliction Requirements:

"Applicability"—When an individual is proficient in manipulating death and bones (spines), they can bring out this weapon's maximum effectiveness.

The living spine has been permanently developed into an axe-type weapon and cannot be reversed or reforged. By manipulating the Death Substance within, it can switch between "spine" and "axe" forms for ease of carrying.
