Version 0.1 Game Update Log
"Let me ask one more time. Are you sure?"
"I'm sure! I won't regret it even if I die!" Jiu Cai Rong pinched his finger into his flesh, gazing at the distant sky above the Mountain Villa with a righteous, resolute expression.
Ning Zheng simply couldn't dissuade them.
He hadn't expected them to be so unyielding—to risk nine deaths and one life just to fight to the bitter end, launching into the frenzied act of a hundred-man battle against tens of thousands of monsters.
But he didn't want to mock anyone who had a dream.
In Ning Zheng's eyes, they could have muddled through life, coming here to eat, drink, play, and have fun—to enjoy good food and amusing activities, sing songs, knead mud, forge iron, and simply savor life in the "inn." Yet now, they were willing to risk their lives for the development of their own "inn."
Knowing full well there was a tiger on the mountain, they still headed straight into the tiger's lair. They were determined to develop the nearly impossible artifact business at the Mountain Villa, fight for a future, and forcibly carve out an assembly line for forging!
What kind of spirit was this?
Very childish, very foolish, but also very magnificent!
He was somewhat moved by the vigorous, youthful spirit they displayed.
Ning Zheng's heart was moved for a full three seconds. Then he decided:
They could be brave on their own. He would secretly run away anyway, but before fleeing, kind-hearted Ning Zheng still gave them a brief introduction to the various details about the crow swarm, helping them improve their odds of victory.
After all, they had to kill most of the crows before they had any chance of luring out their leader.
He was, in a sense, using them as bait.
Before long, the somewhat muddled Jiu Cai Rong began to understand.
"So that's how it is. No wonder we can't afford to provoke them. The crows attack in swarms, hold grudges, and once provoked, they fight to the death?"
He frowned slightly as he chewed over the implications. "Then we'll probably have to build bunkers—a tower-defense game. We can use spears and crossbows, hide inside, and attack from there. We'll also need to set up traps in the houses, lure them inside, and kill them."
"The Blacksmith Shop really does need to be built and protected!"
"After all, it's the core of our manufacturing. If it's left out in the open, we won't be able to keep forging iron under the crows' attacks and replenish our war losses."
The gameplay of this first dungeon storyline was quite interesting.
A trigger-based Main Quest Plot—Crow Calamity!
It had them forge iron, farm, build tower defenses in advance, and lay out their defenses before triggering the beast tide and beginning to repel wave after wave of crows, lest the crows eat their brains.
This tower defense would test the current forging standards of their Blacksmith Shop.
As expected, everything came down to the Blacksmith Shop.
The Main Quest Plot had been set up rather ingeniously.
At the same time, after triggering the main event "Crow Calamity," they would most likely have to spend a long time living indoors, underground, or in bunkers. Outside, beasts would fill the sky and earth, and anyone who went out would die!
That meant they had to stockpile sufficient wartime resources in advance.
Of course, there was no need to worry too much about food. They could hide underground eating dirt and wage tunnel warfare, going back and forth.
As long as they built their tower defenses properly, they would have the home-field advantage.
Jiu Cai Rong planned to organize everyone that afternoon to forge iron, prepare all kinds of equipment, and begin a massive mobilization. They would continue building houses.
Ning Zheng patted him on the shoulder. "I'm old. I can't afford to provoke the crows. Young man, the future is in your hands. This old man will resign at noon and go enjoy his retirement. I'll come up the mountain for a look every now and then."
After a pause, he planted the foreshadowing. "The Villa Master has reached a critical juncture in his seclusion. He can't receive visitors right now and can't leave seclusion either. If a young man wielding a bow and arrows suddenly appears someday, that will be our Villa Master."
Not emerging from seclusion was an excellent excuse.
I might be in seclusion for a month, or I might be in seclusion for ten years. That kind of time span is perfectly normal for a high-level cultivator, right?
"You're officially retiring? You've only taught me for two and a half days!"
Jiu Cai Rong was excited yet reluctant to part.
After spending these past few days together, the Old Steward had been kind and amiable—simply overflowing with warmth.
He had appeared so vividly before everyone that he made people feel comforted.
The behind-the-scenes planners of other games were always finding new ways to disgust, exploit, and squeeze you dry. They were capitalists among capitalists.
Those Dog Planners squeezed and skimmed the players' resources and wealth, making him feel as though he could experience the same thing in real life.
Without comparison, there was no sense of harm.
The Old Steward was such a wonderful person. How could he be leaving the stage just like this?
"From now on, the Mountain Villa's materials and archives will all be entrusted to you." Ning Zheng took out the key to the Steward's Room and said, "Those books are quite valuable. Don't let them be stolen."
"Yes." Jiu Cai Rong felt the heavy responsibility land on his shoulders. He would strictly guard against those leek-forging blacksmiths in the Mountain Villa, starting with himself.
Ning Zheng declined their reluctance to part and went down the mountain, even locking one of the Mountain Villa's gates behind him.
Soon, Jiu Cai Rong, Su Yu Niang, and the others discussed matters and drafted a development charter.
Jiu Cai Rong brought out a huge Notice Board, covered it in densely packed writing, and planted it at the entrance to the Mountain Villa. It immediately attracted a huge crowd of onlookers.
Wooden Notice Board:
Official Announcement: The current "Sword Forging Competition" will receive a major non-logout update. The 0.1 version update log is as follows. The Main Quest Plot expansion "Crow Calamity" will soon be opened. The game will enter this expansion through a trigger mode. Once the crows' aggro is triggered, a large-scale event will occur: a crow beast tide will attack the Mountain Villa. Most blacksmiths have probably endured them for quite some time, right? All blacksmiths, please make ample defensive preparations in advance. 1. This update adds new emergency forging quests, such as "Blacksmith Shop Defense Construction," "Tunnel Construction," "Bow and Crossbow Crafting," and "Mass Production of Nail Boards." There are thirty-seven time-limited quests in total. 2. A new war-suggestion submission box has been added. Players with experience in making traps and those skilled at designing Defense Towers are encouraged to submit their genius blueprints and response plans. If a submission is adopted, the Mountain Villa Management Committee will award Magic Coins. 3. A new temporary team-up mode has been added. During the event, teams may construct private bunkers and Defense Towers in public areas. However, the Mountain Villa will take 60% of the crow materials obtained from hunting. The remaining materials will belong to the individual teams. Please work hard killing monsters. Note 1: Please mark your personal names on your tower-defense structures and draw a circle within the range of your own Defense Tower, so that everyone's spoils can be distinguished and disputes over loot can be avoided. Note 2: After the Mountain Villa war ends, all unauthorized structures, such as Defense Towers, gun emplacements, and traps, will be demolished, and the tunnels will be filled in. Note 3: The Mountain Villa Management Committee reserves the right of final interpretation.
The densely packed Notice Board was covered in the version announcement.
???
The players crowded around to watch, instantly rendered speechless.
They soon began discussing it heatedly, pointing here and there.
Dao Jiujiu: "I really want to complain. Jiu Cai Rong is actually pretending to be an official planner, posting game update announcements in the Mountain Villa, and he's even making it look so convincing. Could he be a genius?"
Eye Bag: "Holy crap, is it really that exciting? Crow Calamity? You people are so immoral. You're the ones preparing to provoke the crows, yet you've dressed it up as a Main Quest Plot. It's actually kind of ceremonial. I'm a laid-back lifestyle player, and I oppose this event! I'm terrified that Lord Crow will hold a grudge against me! Those daily carb bombs, sob sob~"
Before everyone could continue chatting, they saw Jiu Cai Rong walk out of the house again. He took out a second Official Announcement and planted it beside the first.
Everyone's minds went blank.
Was this guy addicted?
The second Notice Board read:
This major update also optimizes the following matters. 1. The Magic Coin rewards for various daily quests in the Mountain Villa have been adjusted slightly to prevent inflation and improve the circulation of goods. A brand-new building, the exchange, has also been opened. Players are welcome to pay a fee and set up stalls. 2. A small number of bugs have been fixed. 3. Several known issues have been optimized. 4. A new profession, the enchanter, has been added and will be coming soon. Please look forward to it. 5. Blacksmiths who have committed certain extremely heinous acts of theft have been detected in the game. A mutual reporting-and-reward mechanism has now been added. Reports should be submitted through the suggestion box. "Fair Scales" have also been installed in the Blacksmith Shop, mining area, and smelting room. Everyone entering or leaving will be inspected.
Medical Fairy Maiden: "He's shameless! Heartless! Completely unreasonable! Sob sob sob, if we can't steal and open treasure chests anymore, can this game even be played?"
Food God: "I'm furious! You're a player—how can you fix a few bugs?"
Shao Chai Kun: "Sob sob sob, Old Steward, I miss you. Please come back soon. Please, save this world!"
The hundred people were all teary-eyed. They had completely gone mad.
Their clamoring had already transformed the place into a bustling marketplace.
Jiu Cai Rong simply wasn't human.
They all chattered away, discussing the "Crow Calamity" expansion. Some ran off to complete the emergency time-limited quests.
Others began shouting among the crowd to form teams, preparing to build DIY bunkers. One person loudly called out, "Brothers, I've been setting traps in My World for ten years! I've been waiting for this day since 2007! If you're my brother, come join my team!"
