Demon Trait—Flame Gargoyle
Since Cheng Tian had no scouting-type skills, he could not see Red Arremer's detailed stats.
But that did not stop him from knowing full well that Red Arremer was a high-agility unit far beyond him.
In the original Famicom version, Red Arremer was notorious for its high movement speed, erratic maneuvering, free flight, and ability to spit fireballs—a terrifying existence.
That was also the main reason Cheng Tian had not opened with Polymorph.
After all, this was not the kind of Polymorph from Warcraft that directly affected its target. It was a spell with a projectile trajectory, making it highly likely to be evaded by a high-agility unit.
And Red Arremer's behavior was exactly as Cheng Tian remembered. It immediately chose to widen the distance, flew high into the air, and looked down at him from above.
What Cheng Tian did not know was that more than half the reason Red Arremer had done so was because of him.
From Red Arremer's perspective, an unfamiliar human dressed in Kingdom Knight Armor, wearing a twisted expression comparable to that of a Demon Village demon, was charging straight at a genuine Demon Village demon like itself without dodging or hesitating. That alone was far too counterintuitive.
Though mockingly called Demon Village's ever-present cannon fodder, it was precisely because of this that the Red Arremer Clan had accumulated and passed down vast combat experience.
Red Arremer had not never seen knights of the human kingdom, including the strongest among them, Arthur. Yet even they, who had stormed Demon King's Castle and stolen the map, had never committed such an utterly reckless act.
That made Red Arremer sense that something was off, so it chose to pull back and observe.
But just as Red Arremer thought the human below could only stare helplessly, it saw him fling the Goblin Cleaver in his hand fiercely into the sky without the slightest hesitation.
The cleaver spun clockwise as it followed a parabolic arc toward the hovering Red Arremer.
Yet despite having thrown the cleaver, the other party still held an identical blade in his hand.
Almost instantly, Red Arremer recognized the origin of the move, even as a question surfaced in its mind.
Shouldn't Arthur have a huge beard? Did he shave the whole thing off?
Questions aside, Red Arremer's extensive experience as a combat mercenary made it swiftly dodge sideways. The cleaver, having already reached the peak of its arc, did not even graze a hair.
At that moment, Red Arremer suddenly lowered itself and dove straight down.
By now, Red Arremer was basically certain that Cheng Tian was Arthur or Arthur's successor. Moreover, he had obtained a poor weapon, making his throwing attacks virtually no threat at all.
The damage and threat of Arthur's throwing attacks depended entirely on the weapon he currently held.
Using the original game as an example, most players probably liked the knife best. Its straight flight path and high attack speed were enough to deal with ninety-nine percent of the monsters in Demon Village.
The knight's lance he started with was fairly average. It flew in a straight line and had moderate attack speed. It was not ideal, but it was usable.
But the most infuriating weapon had to be the "Fireball."
The Fireball's throwing speed was about the same as the knight's lance, but its trajectory formed a small arc. Its range was ridiculously short, and it could even sail right over an enemy's head without hitting them at all.
Although it would create a small wall of fire upon landing that lasted about one second and could damage enemies, that still could not conceal the Fireball's greatest weakness.
It could barely be used against zombies, crows, and the like, but taking it against Red Arremer was practically suicide.
In Red Arremer's eyes, the one-handed cleaver Cheng Tian could only throw in an arc was much the same. It meant Cheng Tian was no longer any threat to Lord Red Arremer.
Arthur was famously almost incapable of melee combat. Once a demon successfully got close to him, Arthur's only fate was to have his armor shattered, run wildly around in strawberry underwear, and finally be smashed into a skeleton by an elbow strike.
Facing the diving Red Arremer, Cheng Tian hurriedly flung out another thrown cleaver, but it still achieved nothing. Like a nimble fighter jet, Red Arremer tilted its wings and body forty-five degrees to the right, easily dodging the second blade.
At this point, Red Arremer believed Cheng Tian had exhausted his tricks. Even if he still had one more chance to throw something, its body was strong enough to take a hit head-on. There was no need to dodge at all.
And with only one opening, Red Arremer could tear open the human's tin can shell and feast on the delicious human flesh within.
Extending its claws, Red Arremer seemed to have already seen Cheng Tian being opened like a can.
However, at that moment, a cane that looked somewhat familiar to Red Arremer suddenly appeared in Cheng's left hand.
But before Red Arremer could search its memories, a hexagram-shaped spell projectile erupted from the tip of the cane aimed at it.
"Holy Satan!"
Having finally recognized the source of the Polymorph, Red Arremer's face twisted in shock and fury. But because it had prepared not to dodge and had accelerated too much, it could not move sideways and crashed headfirst into the hexagram.
With a small puff of smoke, Red Arremer had transformed into a furious Summer Duck covered in crimson feathers, with a pointy head and a duckbill that looked more like a bird's beak.
Polymorph, hit!
Cheng Tian had actually taken advantage of an equipment-switching mechanic unique to Chosen Players.
Simply put, while in combat, players could not freely switch the equipment in their hands with spare equipment in their inventory through thought alone.
For example, when Cheng Tian held the Goblin Cleaver in his main hand, if he switched it with a baseball bat in his inventory, the two items would exchange places. However, the baseball bat moved into his main-hand equipment slot would enter a six-second countdown. During those six seconds, he could neither use the baseball bat nor switch again.
It was somewhat similar to Dota's settings.
But Cheng Tian had exploited a small mechanic that was not quite a bug. Before entering combat, he had removed his off-hand weapon and placed it in his inventory.
And equipping something while empty-handed took effect immediately.
Using this method, Cheng Tian had successfully concealed the existence of the Vampire Gentleman's Cane. Combined with Red Arremer's fixed assumption that Cheng Tian possessed only one nonthreatening weapon, it had ultimately led to the current result.
Without a single wasted word or unnecessary move, what awaited the pointy-headed Red Arremer duck was Cheng Tian's brutally targeted assault—
Cheng Tian directly tossed aside the cane, turned sideways, grabbed the flapping duck wing, then raised the Goblin Cleaver and viciously chopped down at the base of the wing!
