Jason carefully held his gun as he advanced slowly through the woods.
"Don't you think it's too quiet around here?" he asked Lu Sheng behind him in a low voice.
"A little, but woods are quiet to begin with. It's afternoon—the hottest part of the day has just passed," Lu Sheng replied casually.
"Is that so?" Jason asked doubtfully. "By the way, I think I heard gunshots just now. Did you hear them?"
Lu Sheng shook his head, afraid that answering would scare Jason.
"No. There isn't any sound around us."
"We haven't found any clues here. How about we head back first and meet up with the others?" Jason suggested.
"Head back?" Lu Sheng shook his head slightly. "It's still too early to go back. Let's look around some more. Maybe we really will find some clues. Don't forget, the money from the case is divided according to contribution."
At the mention of money, Jason was immediately tempted.
He was different from Jack, whom Lu Sheng had possessed. Jack's mother helped him from time to time. Though he was stubborn and refused to take her money, at least he only had himself to feed.
But Jason had a mother bedridden by illness. Most of his monthly wages went toward medicine and recuperation for her.
He was left with only a tiny amount for himself.
That was why he joined nearly every dangerous mission, as long as there was money in it.
Whoosh. Suddenly, a faint sound of wind came from nearby.
"Did you hear something?" Jason suddenly asked.
Lu Sheng frowned, just about to speak.

A black shadow suddenly lunged at him from behind.
The muscles in Lu Sheng's back tightened sharply. His legs, already pushed to their limit, drove down hard as he rolled sideways, narrowly avoiding
