Wayne led Hobart down a narrow passageway to the door of a cabin.
Hobart heard the sounds of a man and woman making love inside. Wayne rudely hammered on the door with his fist. "How many times have I told you not to bring women into the guest room?"
"Sorry, Uncle. I-I'll be done right away."
The young man inside kept his word and really did finish quickly.
The cabin door opened, and a seductive woman in flamboyant clothes and light makeup walked out while adjusting her skirt.
Rather than feeling embarrassed by the two men at the door, she started soliciting business from them. In particular, she offered Hobart, who looked fair-skinned and handsome, a discount.
She did not leave until Wayne impatiently waved her away.
Only then did a young man emerge from inside, fastening his belt with a fawning smile. Wayne introduced him as his nephew, Shier, who worked as a helper aboard the ship.
Seeing that there was actually a passenger on this return trip, Shier immediately said, "I'll change the sheets for you right away."
Hobart had originally intended to return to the deck for a while to avoid this, but then he remembered that this was simply how people at the bottom of society lived in this era. There was nothing to avoid.
The so-called guest cabin was a cramped room with space for only a bed and a chair. Fortunately, it had a window, so it did not feel too stuffy inside.
