The First Believer
Elliot's words gave Hobart a more concrete impression of the original owner's father, whom he had never met.
Moreover, Rex's strength far exceeded Hobart's previous expectations. He had thought Rex might merely be a Middle Sequence Beyonder, but after hearing Elliot's answer, Hobart realized that Rex was at least a demigod!
Elliot continued, "According to some records in the family archives, my ancestors once suspected that the family curse came from a powerful member of the Prisoner pathway skilled in curses and Filth Language.
"So, over the past few decades, we have been hunting Beyonders of the Prisoner pathway in search of the curse's source. Unfortunately, we have never obtained the information we wanted."
Hobart froze. "Before you encountered Rex, you did not even have a demigod's protection. Yet you never suffered retaliation from a powerful Prisoner pathway Beyonder?"
Elliot said, "We have a High Sequence Sealed Artifact that can form a Chaos Barrier, protecting an area the size of a small town from being found by anyone."
By then, Elliot no longer concealed anything from the powerful being above his head and revealed all the family's secrets.
Of course, in his view, it made no difference whether he spoke or not. The other party had already broken through the Chaos Barrier and descended inside the town, which showed that he was far more powerful than that High Sequence Sealed Artifact.
After giving it some thought, Hobart understood. Since it could form a Chaos Barrier, it was most likely a Sealed Artifact of the Lawyer pathway, turning the ordered state within a certain area into a distorted one.
The Country of Disorder was a "Super Sealed Artifact" of the Lawyer pathway. What Sealed Artifact of that pathway could possibly possess a status higher than the Country of Disorder? Thus, Hobart, within the Country of Disorder, completely ignored the Sealed Artifact protecting the Balk Family.
Having figured that out, Hobart said, "Although I have some interest in your family's curse, the loyalty of a Sequence 4 is not enough for me to lift it.
"I will continue watching you, but without my permission, you are not to reveal my existence!"
Elliot was somewhat disappointed, but he still said respectfully, "I shall obey your will."
Hobart added, "If you show signs of Loss of Control again, you may recite my Honorific Name. However, if I help you next time, I will require a true sacrifice."
Elliot became excited. As long as the process of Loss of Control could be stopped, it would mean the family curse had been temporarily suppressed. That was good news for the family as well.
He nearly dropped to his knees. "Please let me hear your Honorific Name!"
Hobart said solemnly, "O Creator in the Shadow of Order;
You are the source and end of all order; you are the Master of Laws who commands the Clock of Order."
Then he withdrew his power. The image of the Iron Throne vanished from above Elliot's head, but Elliot did not dare raise his head for a long while. He did not know whether it was excitement or fear, but in any case, he knelt on the ground and trembled all over! Moreover, He was a Creator, and the abilities He had displayed proved that He was a High Sequence Beyonder of the Lawyer pathway! The elders of the family had once said that only a High Sequence Beyonder of the Lawyer pathway offered any hope of lifting the curse! In that case, He truly had the ability to lift the family's curse!
Unfortunately, the family had no sacrifice that interested this powerful being! He truly wanted to tell everyone this news! But He did not permit anyone else to know of His existence.
Elliot sighed. He could only strive to please Him in the future and make Him pay more attention to his clansmen.
In the Country of Disorder, Hobart felt that his spirituality was nearly exhausted, so he hurriedly left the Country of Disorder.
After returning to reality, Hobart's head throbbed violently, and chaotic whispers appeared beside his ears. He lamented that his spirituality was still too weak. His current limit was staying in the Country of Disorder for half an hour, after which he needed five or six hours of rest to recover his spirituality. Once he completely Digested the Lawyer Potion, he should be able to remain there for an entire hour at a time.
After resting for more than ten minutes, the splitting headache and the irritating whispers gradually faded. Only then did Hobart calm down and think.
It was not just one family that had suffered the curse of Mad Howl, and every curse produced a Sequence 9 of the Lawyer pathway. That was absolutely no coincidence.
Hobart then thought of the Balk Family's High Sequence Sealed Artifact of the Lawyer pathway. The family must have produced a powerful Lawyer pathway Beyonder, and it was very likely a Beyonder Family that controlled the Lawyer pathway! But the Balk Family? He had never heard of it! Then he thought of the two stars emitting white light. Were they both people suffering under the curse of Mad Howl? But in the first star, that Middle-aged Man named Raft Pond had not been tormented by the curse!
Lost in thought, Hobart gradually fell asleep and slept until dawn.
The Next Day morning, Hobart, full of energy, followed Christine in a two-wheeled carriage to the Mercenary Club on Queen's Avenue.
The club was a large courtyard. Such courtyards were inconspicuous on Queen's Avenue, but for a club to possess facilities like these was already a luxury.
When they arrived at the Courtyard gate, Colonel Bruno's carriage was already waiting there. Christine greeted him through the carriage window, and the two carriages entered through the Courtyard gate together.
Seven or eight security guards in black stood at the Courtyard gate. They carefully inspected Christine's Badge, then conducted a routine inquiry of Hobart, who had no Badge, before allowing them inside.
Joining the Mercenary Club required introductions from two official members. Christine had asked Colonel Bruno to come along precisely to complete the procedure of introducing Hobart.
The club's membership fee was actually 80 pounds! It was very expensive for Hobart, but for professional mercenaries or military gentlemen, the price was absolutely worth it.
However, Hobart's entire savings did not even amount to 80 pounds. Fortunately, Christine paid the membership fee for him and introduced him to the receptionist at the front desk. "This is my eldest son, Hobart. He wants to find a place to practice shooting. Later, please introduce him to the club and show him around the Shooting Range and the procedure for collecting firearms."
The receptionist immediately smiled. "Rest assured, Mr. Christine. We will certainly take good care of Mr. Hobart."
Christine then said to Hobart, "Do not return too late this afternoon, lest your mother worry. Colonel Bruno and I have business to attend to, so I will not accompany you to practice shooting."
Hobart nodded. "All right, Father. Thank you, Colonel Bruno, for the introduction."
Colonel Bruno smiled and shook hands with Hobart before leaving with Christine.
Only then did the receptionist step forward. "Mr. Hobart, this way, please."
