Picking Up Bargains

Some of the horses on the road had died directly from the aftermath of the battle, while others had been startled by the sudden fighting and dragged their carriages into a tangled wreck, putting those inside at an even greater disadvantage.

Elliot lay flat on the ground, not daring to move. This was the most intense Extraordinary Battle he had ever seen. By his estimate, at least four Sequence 5 Beyonders were involved, along with more than ten Sequence 6s and an uncountable number of Sequence 7s and Sequence 8s.

The mysterious existence on the Iron Throne and the Middle-aged Man Elliot had been following belonged to the ambushing side. Many among them were Beyonders of the "Lawyer" pathway. Their battlefield control was extremely strong, and they continuously suppressed the Beyonders in the carriages with abilities such as "Weaken," "Confusion," and "Corrosion."

Most of their Companions, meanwhile, were Beyonders of the "Arbiter" pathway. They excelled in close combat, mainly using "Imprison" to trap their enemies before swarming in to finish them off.

The battle had been one-sided from the very beginning, until a spear of Red Flame shot out from one of the carriages and briefly halted the enemy's advance, finally giving the attacked side a moment to catch its breath.

But before long, the carriage that had fired the red spear began to emit the light of dawn. With a solemn cry of "Punishment!", two Sequence 5s radiating something like Black Holy Light, along with a Sequence 5 whose presence threw one's vision into chaos, began besieging the person who had thrown the flaming spear.

Taking this opportunity, the other Beyonders in the carriages disembarked and fled toward the forest on the opposite side of the battlefield.

Yet they had barely run any distance when cries of "Distortion" and "Imprison" rang out from that direction. Clearly, the ambushers had arranged an ambush there as well.

In the end, the attacked Beyonders could only gather together and break through along the road.

Elliot pressed his head even lower, because the battlefield was spreading toward him. He had no desire to die here for no reason.

It was also at this moment that he realized the mysterious existence on the Iron Throne had not been following him all along. What that being had been watching should have been this Supernatural War.

In this era without large-scale warfare, a Supernatural War of this level was enough to determine the stability and ownership of a warlord territory in the Southern Continent.

This was the sort of matter that should have drawn the attention of a mysterious existence of that level.

At that moment, the "mysterious existence on the Iron Throne" was watching the battle with great interest through True Sight. While Elliot had been following the Middle-aged Man, he had already left the Country of Disorder to rest for a while, so he could now observe the battle at ease.

Only today did Hobart learn that the Arbiter pathway's "Imprison" and the Lawyer pathway's "Weaken" could be used together. First imprison the opponent, then throw three or four Weaken abilities at them, and the opponent would basically lose all combat capability.

Moreover, once more than a hundred Beyonders launched an organized, premeditated assault, their power was terrifying. Even a properly organized brigade-level force would likely be no match for them.

Beyonder battles came and went quickly. Before long, the Fosac Empire's Beyonders vanished around the bend ahead under pursuit from Loen Beyonder mercenaries, and the battlefield gradually receded into the distance.

At this point, only the neighing of horses remained on the road, along with several Sequence 7s and Sequence 8s from the victorious side who were patrolling the battlefield to finish off the wounded and treat their own injured.

Elliot finally dared to raise his head slightly. Seeing that no one was paying attention to this side, he was just about to leave when something the size of a palm, shaped like a cherry and glimmering with black light, caught his attention.

That was a Barbarian's Extraordinary Characteristics. Its Owner had died horribly, to the point that he was barely recognizable as Human Form. That was likely why the Extraordinary Characteristics had separated so quickly.

The Extraordinary Characteristics were not far from Elliot. A fervent light gradually appeared in his eyes as he looked at the attackers in the distance who were finishing off survivors, then at the Extraordinary Characteristics.

This was precisely what the Balk Family needed most! It was because their population had grown without enough Extraordinary Characteristics that the Town of Nonexistence had so many Madmen.

The main battlefield was already far from here, and the Middle Sequence Beyonders would not be able to disengage from the fight anytime soon.

This was an opportunity.

Elliot made up his mind, adjusted his condition, then suddenly dashed out and Picked up the cherry-like Extraordinary Characteristics.

Just as he turned to leave the road, he suddenly spotted a Necklace that clearly possessed an Extraordinary Ability.

Elliot snatched up the Necklace. Just as he was about to leave, he saw a bizarre Extraordinary mask. When he was about to remove it, the image of that towering throne and mysterious figure suddenly appeared in his mind. "Leave!"

Only then did Elliot realize that he seemed to have been affected by some Extraordinary Item on the battlefield. Without noticing it, he had become greedy.

Fortunately, the voice of the mysterious existence on the Iron Throne had cleared his mind again.

But he had still been discovered. A Sequence 8 who was finishing off survivors shouted, "Who's there? Stop!" Then he and a Sequence 7 and another Sequence 8 gave chase.

Elliot fled desperately, but he could not shake off the Pursuers. Just as anxiety consumed him, a tall, majestic throne appeared in the air above his head. Though it was nighttime, the sacred black light surrounding the throne was still visible.

A blurry figure sat upon the throne, radiating immense pressure.

The three Pursuers were startled and quickly scattered to avoid it.

But they soon discovered that the powerful existence on the throne was not attacking them. It merely threw the space before them into a state of chaos.

When the chaos faded and space regained its Order, the thief who had stolen the Extraordinary Characteristics had vanished without a trace, and every clue had been cut off.

After helping Elliot block the Pursuers, Hobart left the Country of Disorder.

Watching tonight's battle had benefited him greatly. He had gained a practical understanding of the abilities of Lawyer pathway Sequence 8s, Sequence 7s, Sequence 6s, and even Sequence 5s, and had observed how Beyonders of the same pathway used their Extraordinary Abilities.

For the Lawyer pathway, Sequence 7 marked a qualitative transformation. Before that, neither Barbarians nor Lawyers possessed particularly strong Extraordinary Abilities, but after reaching Sequence 7, they could use the versatile "Bribe."

Only then did they gain Extraordinary Abilities that could be used directly for attack.

As Hobart was summarizing what he had learned, indistinct echoes sounded in his mind. Someone was chanting his Honorific Name? Or rather, Elliot was chanting his Honorific Name, because so far, only Elliot and Hobart knew it.

Hobart sighed. He was indeed rather tired today, but the "great existence on the Iron Throne" still had to work.

Using Reverse Walking, he returned to the Country of Disorder and sat upon the Iron Throne. The star representing Elliot was indeed pulsing continuously.

Hobart extended his spirituality toward it. It turned out that Oliet wanted to sacrifice the Extraordinary Necklace he had obtained to him.
