A New Powerhouse
Elliot prostrated himself devoutly on the ground. "Mysterious and great existence, thank you for your guidance, which allowed me to obtain a portion of 'Barbarian' Extraordinary Characteristics.
"Thank you for your warning, which kept me from losing myself to greed.
"Thank you for your help, which allowed me to escape the Pursuers.
"Your loyal servant wishes to offer this Necklace as a sacrifice, to express my heartfelt gratitude."
Only after he repeated it three times did the figure of the Great Existence on the Throne appear in his mind.
The great existence spoke in a solemn voice, "I have no interest in your sacrifice."
It mainly consumed too much spirituality. If he failed to grab the sacrifice into the Country of Disorder, the act would fall apart.
Elliot's voice became even humbler. "Great existence, I know this sacrifice is crude in your eyes, but it is the most valuable thing I possess. I truly do not know what kind of sacrifice could express the gratitude in my heart."
After about one or two seconds, that solemn voice said, "Prepare a simple altar tomorrow night. Draw this symbol at the center of the altar, light three candles in the format of the Binary Method, and burn spiritually rich herbs. The incantation is..."
Elliot let out a sigh of relief. The great existence was finally willing to accept his sacrifice! That solemn voice continued, "You may call me the 'Creator' from now on! Also, in the Beyonder World, you must always know restraint!"
The voice faded, and the majestic throne vanished from his mind. Elliot could hardly contain his excitement. It seemed that his heartfelt gratitude had moved this great existence, and that was why It was willing to reveal Its "True Name" to him.
Whether or not the great Creator could hear him, Elliot respectfully said, "I shall follow your will!"
He understood clearly that the Creator's final words were obviously a rebuke. It was a reminder, but also a favor.
What Elliot did not know was that the great Creator simply did not want the eye he had planted in the Southern Continent to muddle-headedly turn into Extraordinary Characteristics.
After Hobart left the Country of Disorder for the fourth time that night, he was already extremely exhausted. He fell asleep almost as soon as he lay down.
Southern Continent, on the road leading to Kansel City.
The Loen mercenaries were cleaning up the battlefield. Caster Augustus, the commander of the mercenary team, frowned deeply as he questioned the three Subordinates. "You're saying the other party suddenly appeared in midair? And they didn't attack you?"
This battle had been a resounding victory, and the entire Mercenary Team was immersed in exhilaration.
Yet during the latter half of the battle, a minor incident had occurred. Someone had snatched two insignificant spoils of war from them!
It was neither a major nor a minor matter, but it had to be investigated thoroughly.
One of the three Pursuers who had previously chased Elliot said, "Captain, if they had wanted to attack us, we would have had no ability to resist."
Caster's frown deepened. At that moment, his Assistant Conrad hurried over. "I've found out. The Extraordinary Characteristics that were taken belonged to Borg Calvin."
"Viscount Calvin's nephew?" Caster asked.
"Yes," Conrad said. "As for the Extraordinary Item that was taken, it's difficult to determine. Although we have intelligence on most of our opponents, we don't know exactly what Extraordinary Items or Sealed Artifacts they possess.
"However, based on the descriptions of several Subordinates who treated the wounded, it should have been an item at Sequence 7 or Sequence 6."
After several seconds of silence, Caster suddenly laughed. "The other party clearly knew about our operation, which was why they were able to achieve their goal amid our fierce battle.
"But a High Sequence Beyonder used such crucial intelligence, had his Servants or Subordinates take such enormous risks, and in the end only took away a Middle Sequence Extraordinary Item and a portion of Sequence 8 Extraordinary Characteristics?"
This was probably the funniest joke he had heard all year.
Conrad analyzed, "Perhaps that Extraordinary Item held extraordinary significance?"
He added, "Right, the divination result was that the person who stole the Extraordinary Characteristics belonged to a local Beyonder force.
"However, every divination concerning that powerhouse on the throne failed without exception."
"It seems a new powerhouse has emerged in the Southern Continent. The powers within Anthony Territory are about to be reshuffled," Caster said. "Since our losses are not severe, we shouldn't come into conflict with the local Extraordinary Organizations. Hurry and gather the spoils. We need to withdraw as soon as possible!"
Fortunately, this powerhouse bore them no ill will. With the strength It had displayed, if It had wished to, most of the Mercenary Team would have become Extraordinary Characteristics in the Southern Continent.
Early Morning of the Next Day, Hobart felt that both his spirituality and mental state had recovered rather well. He went to the Law Firm and sat for a while before heading out to "visit clients."
He planned to rent a house on one of the nearby streets that morning. His wealth had now returned to more than 70 Pounds, not including his share of the two spoils of war or the payment Mr. Robin had promised him.
He had long since decided what kind of house he wanted. A two-story terraced house would be best, so there would be enough space and his neighbors would not notice when he conducted certain Rituals.
It would also be best if it were near the Law Firm, so when he occasionally worked very late, he could rest nearby.
After making a round through Bai Minglan Street and the neighboring streets, he quickly found two decent Rental Apartments.
Following the information in the rental notices, he easily found the landlords living nearby. After comparing the two Rental Apartments, Hobart chose the terraced house at Blanca Street 192.
The house had a layout similar to the two-story terraced houses currently in fashion. The first floor contained a Living Room, Kitchen, Dining Room, and a small storage room.
Upstairs were three Bedrooms, as well as a Restroom with a bathtub.
The area was not small either, equivalent to a three-bedroom, two-living-room apartment in Hobart's memory.
The annual rent was 52 Pounds. Hobart rented it for half a year and paid 26 Pounds, leaving him with usable savings of 48 Pounds, 1 Sule, and 6 pence.
The newly rented house was very close to the Law Firm, only a little over ten minutes away on foot.
Hobart had lunch at the Law Firm. Since he had not received any letters from the Mercenary Club, he actually went out to visit clients that afternoon.
The client he was visiting was one of the cases Lawyer Barton had given him last week. Mr. Barton, who owned a farm in the Suburbs, had written to request legal assistance from the Law Firm.
Following the address in the letter, Hobart took a Rental Carriage to a farm on the outskirts.
The repeal of the Corn Laws had bankrupted many small landowners and independent farmers in Loen, but that was only the fate of some. Many farms in the suburbs of Backlund had survived, including Mr. Barton's.
