Polly and Erlie were both startled by Hobart's actions. Why had he kicked down Henry's door without even knocking? Hobart struggled to suppress the fear in his heart. Seeing the candles beside the two corpses, the inverted triangular Mysticism symbol, the ritual materials, books, and so on, he roughly understood what had happened.
Henry and his wife must have performed a Mysticism ritual a few days ago. Since they had conducted a ritual, they would certainly have needed a Wall of Spirituality.
But whether something had gone wrong during the ritual, or whether the ritual itself had been flawed, Henry and his wife had died during it.
Because the Wall of Spirituality had remained, their spirituality had not immediately dissipated, allowing them to answer when Hobart knocked on the door.
Of course, the ritual might also have left them in a strange state. They might not even have known that they were dead. Their already decaying corpses could still move within the Wall of Spirituality, using "influenza" as an excuse to drive away strangers who might interrupt the ritual.
But as the Wall of Spirituality gradually dissipated, so did Henry and his wife's spirituality, resulting in the scene before him.
What was strange, however, was that neither corpse had any Extraordinary Characteristics. In other words, Henry and his wife had not been Beyonders.
Hobart had originally wanted to enter and take a quick look around, but the situation inside seemed rather complicated. This was no time to act blindly.
Reporting it was the better option, and also the Tarot Club's specialty. So he said to Polly and Erlie in his own backyard, "Go call the police. Tell them the Henry family died under mysterious circumstances. Remember, you must say 'mysterious deaths'!"
