The luncheon was held at the Governor's Office. As soon as the banquet began, Fors began discussing Longtail Island's specialty fruits with the delegation's envoys and key officials.
However, Envoy Alice still had not quite recovered from her daze. She was still thinking about the earlier meeting with Adrien.
At the time, the town chief had spoken eloquently about how to prevent Wheat Disease, leaving everyone stunned. It was only today that they learned wheat could get sick too!
Alice could not understand what Adrien had gone through. Why had he changed so drastically? Lost in thought, she casually ate a piece of pineapple. The reaction of her taste buds made her pause slightly. The flesh was plump, and the aroma rich—entirely unlike the pineapples she usually ate.
Alice glanced at the fruit platter before her. Golden pineapples, bright red watermelons, white bananas, and scarlet lychees formed a vivid display of colors on the plate.
There were also several fruits she had never even seen before.
Only then did she seem to come back to herself and hear Fors explaining to everyone, "...This is dragon fruit. There are also durians and several other fruits. They are new varieties we developed through grafting and cultivation..."
New fruits! Everyone found the term somewhat unfamiliar. After the end of the initial Colonial Era, what they heard more often were phrases like "new opportunities" and "new products."
The term "new fruits" seemed to have become very distant from them.
In truth, these were not exactly new fruits. They had simply remained mostly wild before, and because of their taste or the difficulty of transporting them over long distances, they had never appeared on nobles' dining tables.
Fors then introduced the improved fruits. After everyone tasted them, they found the texture and flavor truly different!
