Intruder
They'd gone mad!
The gangs in Brown's territory had fallen into complete chaos. He had barely left when news reached him.
For some unknown reason, many small families had suddenly started shooting at each other, slaughtering one another... Some mid-sized families had also begun fighting. Worse still... the four families of Badim, Gabriel, Stan, and Jose had also spiraled out of control.
Brown was shocked. He had intended to turn back the way he came, but ultimately abandoned the idea.
Because the matter the Ten Dons were discussing this time was of immense importance, and the party they were cooperating with was someone they absolutely could not afford to offend! Thus, he could only order his men to do their best to calm things down and contain the situation... Everything would have to wait until he returned.
For the bosses of small families, getting in touch with the Ten Dons was practically impossible... Mid-sized forces might be able to contact them, just like the Fills Family had once done, but it would take time. Brown's sudden departure had effectively cut him off from the gangs.
Having only his subordinates show themselves carried far less authority than having him there in person...
Fills Lily's method of creating chaos was actually quite simple.
For the leaders of small families, attaching themselves to the Fills Family was an opportunity they had dreamed of... Bloody struggles between gangs were commonplace to begin with. All it took was a few words implying that the Fills Family was willing to support smaller families, and these people would fight until their heads bled... If the Fills Family merely said they disliked a certain small group, countless gang bosses would volunteer to attack without the Fills Family needing to lift a finger.
As for the mid-sized families, their patriarch Oboro was seen by outsiders as a rising favorite at Ten Don Brown's side. So... all they had to do was fabricate it as an order or intention from the Ten Dons and let them tear each other apart. Even if they wanted to verify it, they could not do so in such a short time.
As for the other seven major gangs besides the Fills Family, each had more or less been thrown into disorder by people who had been bought off... The four families of Badim, Gabriel, and the others were too busy looking after themselves. The only variables that needed to be resolved quickly were the other three major families.
So Oboro had immediately gone to hunt down the leaders of those three families.
He had to prevent those three from causing the plan to go less smoothly than expected...
After all, in the eyes of outsiders, Brown himself was still in his territory and had not left.
Something this major had happened, yet the Ten Don was nowhere to be seen. Naturally, people would find it suspicious.
Some might even misunderstand and believe that everything the Fills Family said truly was the Ten Don's idea.
Even if some people had their doubts... they chose to turn a blind eye to everything because of the Fills Family's power. At the very least, they would not step in to help settle the chaos. More importantly, the more people died... the more beneficial it would be for the surviving gangs, making it easier for them to rise to prominence in the future... Some people with ulterior motives wished for things to become as chaotic as possible.
In any case, the confrontations between major families were not something they could interfere with.
The Fills Family's plan... had been set in motion long ago. It was only being detonated now.
"Badim is dead!"
"The Stan and Jose families have both suffered severe losses, and their bosses died suddenly as well... The Fills Family stepped in to suppress and control the situation, while subtly implying that it was done on your orders."
"..."
As the days passed, Brown, far away on another continent, grew increasingly chilled to the bone. Almost every hour, he received alarming news. The speed at which the situation deteriorated and its impact had exceeded his judgment... It had completely spiraled out of control.
"Damn it!"
With a crack, Brown smashed his phone.
He cursed furiously.
He could not understand it. He had already made recordings and videos, sent notices to the gangs in his jurisdiction—why had it still been useless?
"Was I too late...?"
Brown's face was livid.
He should have reacted immediately!
He had severely underestimated the Fills Family's "destructive power." Gangs were lawless thugs and scum to begin with. After being suppressed for so long, they had long since grown sick of the rules and regulations imposed by the Ten Dons... They knew exactly what they were doing. If something really happened... with the Fills Family backing them, the consequences might not fall on them.
On the other hand, the more competitors in the territory died, the greater their chances of climbing upward in the future.
The Fills Family... had released the "evil" in the gangs' hearts!
Malice was breeding bit by bit. As time passed, it became increasingly difficult to suppress... With him absent, even if he deployed his own armed forces or military, the effectiveness would be diminished! To put it plainly, he never should have left... He had missed the chance to snuff out the spark at the very beginning. Now, the blaze had already started...
What made Brown feel even worse was... the half-month discussion had yet to end. It was still ongoing, and he simply could not get away. There was no way for him to return!
"Patriarch, the Ten Dons have already dispatched most of their troops. They're ruthlessly purging the rebels with an iron fist... Our headquarters has also come under attack and will likely be destroyed soon! They immediately began clearing out our businesses. Once the other gangs learn of this, they should realize what is happening and adjust their plans in time..."
"Your time is limited. You must hurry."
The next day, Oboro revisited his old haunt. Alone, he climbed the mountain and arrived before the gates of Brown's residence.
He had walked there alone without taking a car.
Listening to David's report over the phone, Oboro smiled and hung up.
This sprawling palace complex was now at its weakest point defensively... Brown's men had almost all been mobilized, fighting bloody battles against the Fills Family and the rebels they had absorbed... During this time, the Fills Family had brought quite a few forces under its control... But they were only bloated on the surface. Actually confronting the Ten Dons' private armed forces would still be difficult... because those armed troops were extremely well equipped.
Some of the gear in their hands... could not be acquired through gang power alone.
But wearing down and tying up the armed forces, scattering their main strength, was no problem...
"Who goes there?!"
At that moment, several guards at the gates spotted him. They shone flashlights at him and approached with their guns raised.
"An enemy."
Oboro answered with only two simple words.
The next second, his fingers flicked, and several stones instantly pierced through their brains, splattering white matter.
As he strolled through the gates and disappeared into the entrance... shrill gunfire and alarm sirens soon rang out throughout the entire palace complex.
Suddenly, the previously dark residence lit up with huge, blazing floodlights from every direction.
More than a dozen intersecting curtains of light illuminated the night as brightly as day.
Beneath that dazzling ocean of white light, at the far end of the empty square within the tall walls, a small figure slowly approached alongside the clear sound of footsteps... He stopped in the center and became the focus of all eyes.
Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh...
Around him, streaks of black shadows either descended from above or raced in at high speed, forming a circle and trapping the intruder!
Oboro wore a faint smile as his gaze swept over them. There were eighteen people in total—eighteen Nen users! Among them was Green, the young man in the baseball cap whom he had met once before.
Oboro was very familiar with all of their auras.
"Boss of the Fills Family... may I ask what you came here to do in the middle of the night?!"
A cold-faced man with his arms crossed asked indifferently.
His nostrils twitched. Even from ten meters away, he could still smell the faint scent of blood on Oboro.
"Isn't that obvious...?"
Oboro remained calm.
"Mr. Oboro... are you sure you do not wish to reconsider? Your strength may be formidable, but we have the advantage in numbers... We do not understand the gang business, nor do we wish to. If you turn back now, at least you can live a few more days. Once the boss returns, he can deal with you himself... If you make a move now, you are only bringing your death forward. That would not be a wise decision." Green flashed a grin full of white teeth.
"Did everyone else go out? There should have been more people originally..."
Oboro answered a question with a question.
"Yeah... they all went to clean up the mess you made... Satisfied now?"
A woman snapped at him, clearly displeased.
"Calm down, Uka... The real big fish is right here with us, isn't he? You should be happy."
Someone chuckled as he tried to placate his companion.
"Tch!"
"Most of you are from Meteor City, right?"
Oboro began unbuttoning his suit jacket one button at a time.
"Yes."
Green's smile remained bright.
"No wonder... your Nen is all quite impressive... I suddenly find myself very interested in your hometown..." As Oboro spoke, he removed his jacket and slowly rolled up his sleeves.
The dozen or so people watched his movements as fighting spirit and intense killing intent erupted from them together.
Oboro bent down and placed his neatly folded clothes on the ground.
Then... Nen burst forth from around him as he looked at them.
"Come on!"
The moment Oboro spoke, before he had even straightened up, a ghostly figure had already flashed behind him. With a dagger in hand, it slashed at the artery in his neck. "Did you really think we would be interested in waiting for you to tidy your clothes? Idiot, the battle started long ago!"
Bang! But... before the man's weapon could finish its swing, a massive hand pressed against his face. His body lost control as he was violently slammed into the ground, smashing out a deep crater.
Then another cloud of dust billowed up. One of Oboro's legs sank nearly a foot into the ground, though he had not stepped on the man. The man swiftly leaped out of the crater and put distance between them.
"Such fast reflexes... It seems you had some warning of my attack..."
Having failed to land the blow, Oboro pulled his dust-covered foot out and spoke calmly.
Nearby, Green's pupils shrank to pinpoints.
Although his companion had avoided the move, he was already kneeling on the ground, bent over and coughing up blood... What he spat out was not only blood, but chunks of flesh...
Even with Nen protecting him, his internal organs had been severely damaged and ruptured.
This man was even more terrifying than they had anticipated! "You watched recordings of my matches... from Heavens Arena, right? That was half a year ago... You did not think I had made no progress at all over the past six months, did you? Isn't that looking down on me too much...?"
Oboro noticed the change in Green's expression and teased him.
With a pop, he spread open his palm, and a strange Face Button condensed in the air beside him.
"Power on!"
"Loading game..."
The button called out loudly.
"Get him together!"
Seeing that he was about to use his Nen ability, Green immediately shouted.
He was the first to charge forward.
In an instant, more than a dozen afterimages moved in coordination and attacked their target.
"A hero... This is my first time drawing one. Not bad."
The game began.
Oboro looked at the enemies sweeping in from all around him and smiled as he murmured.
