Ch. 162Crownless Nation

Oboro revealed his plan to turn the Fills Family into a Crownless Nation and warned Kurapika that he would have to pursue the remaining Spiders and his clan’s Scarlet Eyes on his own. When V5 sent Celine to force the mafia to accept its chosen Ten Dons, Oboro declared his independence and killed her.

  • Oboro explained to David that the Fills Family would unify the underground powers, infiltrate governments, and become a nation without territory.
  • Oboro visited the recovering Kurapika, discussed the remaining Spiders and the danger posed by Hisoka, then released him from the Fills Family.
  • David told Oboro that a V5 representative had arrived, and Oboro went to meet Celine in the main hall.
  • Celine ordered Oboro to install V5’s ten candidates as the new Ten Dons and warned that V5 could destroy his organization and revoke his Hunter status.
  • Oboro declared the Fills Family a nation that would accept no outside interference, then killed Celine when she dismissed his claim.

Ch. 163State Parasite

A V5 deputy director explained how the Fills Family had bound itself to the Republic of Padokea’s economy and gained protection amid the worldwide underworld unrest. His superior realized Oboro’s expansion threatened V5’s influence and ordered renewed negotiations or Oboro’s elimination.

  • A V5 official reported that Oboro had killed Celine and that the Fills Family intended to rule the underworld.
  • The middle-aged superior ordered a crackdown, but the deputy director warned that the unrest had exposed the Fills Family’s growing power.
  • The deputy director explained that the Fills Family funded much of the Republic of Padokea and had close ties to its government, making action against it equivalent to war with the nation.
  • The deputy director said the Fills Family planned to reproduce its economic influence elsewhere and described it as a parasite on national economies.
  • The superior ordered V5 to contact Oboro again and, if negotiations failed, eliminate him.

Ch. 164A Grand Gift

Oboro used the Fills Family’s global influence to resist V5’s demands and summoned its envoy, Taiji, to watch a broadcast. He promised V5 a “grand gift,” leaving Taiji waiting to see what would happen.

  • Oboro anticipated V5’s investigation after the Republic of Padokea rejected its approach and continued expanding the Fills Family’s influence and armed operations.
  • Oboro had David make Taiji wait until nightfall before receiving him.
  • Taiji warned Oboro that V5 could destroy the Fills Family and offered to restore its seat among the Ten Dons if it abandoned its attempt to unify the underworld.
  • Oboro refused to answer directly, had David turn on a television channel, and invited Taiji to watch the “grand gift” he had prepared for V5.

Ch. 165Press Conferences Across Nations

Oboro showed Taiji a coordinated series of press conferences in which leaders from many nations denounced V5, revealing the Fills Family’s influence over political decision-makers. As V5 faced a crisis over the Black Tide Incident, Netero, Ging, and Pariston watched the broadcasts, while Beyond welcomed the challenge and anticipated meeting Oboro.

  • Oboro had David show Taiji press conferences from numerous national leaders publicly criticizing V5 and threatening to withdraw from its treaties.
  • Oboro explained that the Fills Family had gained leverage over political leaders through their families and vulnerabilities, leaving V5 unable to purge them without provoking war.
  • Taiji received a call from V5 headquarters and hurried away as Oboro and David watched the broadcasts and discussed the leaders’ corruption.
  • Netero watched the political crisis at Hunter Association headquarters, declined to respond to V5’s inquiry about Oboro, and recognized the scale of Oboro’s actions.
  • Ging watched the broadcast from a bar, called the events begun, and left, while Pariston silently watched from a dark room.
  • Beyond watched the news from the Kakin Empire, praised Oboro for challenging V5, and said he looked forward to meeting him.

Ch. 166Let Us Welcome Destruction Together! (Third Update Complete)

Oboro confronted V5 after the Fills Family’s campaign stirred political unrest across the human world and demanded tacit recognition of the underworld’s national-level status. He threatened to unleash worldwide chaos if V5 tried to kill him, leaving the leaders shaken and the prospect of war hanging over the meeting.

  • Taiji watched Oboro ignore calls from V5 officials and demand that the organization’s top leaders come to him.
  • V5 representatives arrived at the Fills Family’s territory, and Bruce arranged a Nen-mediated meeting with the leaders around a table.
  • Oboro demanded tacit recognition for the Fills Family and the underworld, while V5 offered to let him unify the underworld if he obeyed its orders on major matters.
  • Oboro rejected V5’s terms and warned that his death would trigger unrest, massacres, political condemnation, and war across the human world.
  • Oboro called for war and destruction, convincing the V5 leaders that he was prepared to carry out his threats.

Ch. 167I'll Give You What You Want, Then I'll Steal Your Base

Oboro secured V5’s agreement to recognize the Fills Family as an autonomous Crownless Nation, while V5 secretly planned to use and eventually take over its mafia network. Oboro anticipated their scheme and told David that the family would use this temporary advantage to strengthen its planted agents within V5.

  • V5’s leaders agreed to grant the Fills Family autonomy over the mafia in exchange for bringing organizations across the Six Continents under control, but refused to admit it into V5 or protect it by treaty.
  • Oboro accepted the deal, and Bruce congratulated him before leading the V5 delegation away.
  • Bruce privately considered the agreement a way to use the Fills Family’s work and later bring the mafia under V5’s influence.
  • After the delegation left, Oboro told David that V5’s leaders were merely offering sweet talk and that the Fills Family could not yet threaten the five superpowers.
  • Oboro explained that the family would use its temporary advantage to give its planted agents within V5 the resources to gain influence, while letting V5 believe it was being manipulated.

Ch. 168Returning to an Old Haunt

Oboro left the Fills Family compound and returned to Heavens Arena before heading to the Kakin Empire, intending to meet Gon and Killua. At Heavens Arena, Wing described Oboro’s strength and relentless personality to the boys, while Oboro approached the building.

  • Oboro left the details of the Fills Family’s V5 plans to David and Fills Lily and decided to turn his attention to the Kakin Empire.
  • Oboro learned that Gon and Killua had reached Heavens Arena’s 200th floor, while Kurapika’s whereabouts remained unknown and Hisoka had disappeared.
  • Oboro went to Heavens Arena to meet Gon and Killua before setting off for Kakin.

  • Killua called Oboro devious and dangerous, while Wing explained that Oboro was far stronger than Hisoka and pursued his goals without easily giving up.

Ch. 169Hisoka x Illumi x Deal

Gon and Killua continued their Nen training after Wing encouraged them with stories of Oboro and Ging Freecss. Oboro visited Hisoka at Heavens Arena, where he learned that Hisoka and Illumi had made a deal and agreed to witness their coming confrontation.

  • Gon told Killua and Wing that Oboro had praised Ging Freecss, and Wing said Ging and Oboro held comparable standing in the Association.
  • Wing encouraged Gon and Killua to believe in their potential, then ordered them to continue aura training for another half hour, threatening to extend it to an hour.
  • Oboro visited Hisoka at Heavens Arena and teased him about disguising the injury to his neck, which Hisoka called a medal.
  • Oboro said he was heading to the Kakin Empire, but told Hisoka it was not for him and dismissed Hisoka's strength as inadequate.
  • Hisoka revealed that he and Illumi had made a mutually beneficial deal and invited Oboro to witness their coming encounter; Oboro agreed to attend.

Ch. 170Wing's Thoughts

Oboro visited Wing and watched Gon, Killua, and Zushi demonstrate their Nen training, praising Zushi’s effort while warning Gon and Killua that their progress was not enough. Wing left with Oboro for a walk, privately worrying that his influence could make Gon and Killua as dangerous as he was.

  • Oboro reflected on Hisoka and Illumi seeking post-mortem Nen as a way to surpass their limits.
  • Oboro visited Wing at Heavens Arena and met Zushi, Gon, and Killua.
  • Gon, Killua, and Zushi released their Nen so Oboro could assess their training.
  • Oboro praised Zushi’s resolve and challenged Gon and Killua not to grow complacent.
  • Wing accompanied Oboro outside and worried that his influence could lead Gon and Killua down a dangerous path.

Ch. 171Registered Disciple

Oboro reunited with Charles, a former martial artist who had become a Nen user and considered himself Oboro’s registered disciple. After introducing Charles to Wing, Gon, and Killua, Oboro decided to train him for another week and claimed he could give Charles the foundation to become a One-Star Hunter.

  • Oboro and Hisoka watched Charles win a Heavens Arena match, and Oboro recognized the man he had once helped.
  • Oboro asked Charles for an autograph in the corridor, then revealed himself; Charles recognized his master and broke down crying as he embraced him.
  • Charles told Oboro about his Enhancement ability, Power of Faith, and Oboro decided to guide him during his stay at Heavens Arena.
  • Oboro introduced Charles to Wing, Gon, and Killua, who were astonished that the ordinary-looking fighter was Oboro’s registered disciple.
  • Wing doubted Charles could rise much further, but Oboro said he would train him for a week and give him the qualifications to become a One-Star Hunter in the future.

Ch. 172Kastro

Oboro interrupted Kastro’s attempt to challenge Hisoka in the street and arranged a private fight, bringing Charles along to observe. As the fight was about to begin, Oboro predicted Kastro would be killed in less than a minute and told Charles to study his weaknesses.

  • Oboro taught Charles Nen cultivation, combat techniques, and breathing methods, and told him to become a Floor Master before taking the Hunter Exam.
  • Oboro found Kastro confronting Hisoka and suggested they settle their dispute in a private fight, offering to referee.
  • Oboro led Hisoka and Kastro to a martial arts venue and called Charles to watch.
  • Charles expected the fight to be close, but Oboro predicted Hisoka would kill Kastro in less than a minute and told Charles to look for Kastro’s weaknesses.
  • Oboro declared that the fight had no rules or points and that each man’s goal was to kill the other, then began the match.

Ch. 173Simple-Minded Charles

Oboro used Hisoka’s fight with Kastro to teach Charles about Nen combat before their planned departure for the Kakin Empire. After Kastro died, Oboro explained why his abilities, tactics, and state of mind had left him vulnerable, while Charles realized how little he understood about Nen users.

  • Oboro read David’s message about the Kakin Empire while Charles watched Hisoka and Kastro fight.
  • Kastro used his clone and Tiger Bite Fist against Hisoka, but Hisoka evaded his attacks and killed him with a playing card.
  • Oboro led Charles away from the arena and asked him why Kastro had lost.
  • Oboro explained that Kastro’s predictable attacks, mismatched Nen ability, shaken resolve, and poor timing had let Hisoka defeat him.
  • Charles accepted Oboro’s explanation and recognized that he needed to learn more than what he had seen at Heavens Arena.

Ch. 174Kakin Empire

Oboro arrived in the Kakin Empire to advance the Fills Family’s influence and met Ninth Prince Halkenburg, who wanted him to free Saka from the family’s control. Oboro refused to release her without compensation, leaving Halkenburg to decide what he would offer.

  • Oboro reviewed the Kakin princes and considered removing a queen to make room for the Fills Family’s honey trap, while remaining wary of Beyond and Pariston.
  • Oboro reached Kakin’s prosperous royal capital and learned that Ninth Prince Halkenburg was waiting to meet him.
  • Oboro met Halkenburg and Saka in a hotel suite, where Saka bowed to him as a member of the Fills Family.
  • Halkenburg asked Oboro to free Saka, and Oboro demanded an equal exchange for the years and resources invested in her.

Ch. 175Pariston's Appointment

Oboro pressured Halkenburg to arrange a private meeting with Benjamin, offering to free Honey Pot while hinting at a possible alliance in the succession war. After Halkenburg left, Oboro took custody of Honey Pot and Nasubi Hui Guo Rou's hidden son, then received a call from Pariston, who had tracked him to Kakin's capital.

  • Oboro asked Halkenburg to bring Benjamin to meet him privately and offered Honey Pot in exchange.
  • Halkenburg accused Oboro of trying to interfere in Kakin's politics, but Oboro offered him an alliance and gave him three days to decide.
  • Oboro warned Halkenburg to keep their meeting secret, and Halkenburg left with his girlfriend.
  • A subordinate brought Oboro Honey Pot's son, Anu Wudoka, and Oboro ordered his people to care for the child.
  • Oboro surveyed the Royal Military Academy and considered Nasubi Hui Guo Rou's plans for Kakin's rise and the Dark Continent expedition.
  • Pariston called Oboro, revealed he was also in the capital, and asked to meet.

Ch. 176Death Ultimatum

Oboro met Pariston in Kakin and confronted him about his schemes involving Beyond, the royal family, and Netero. Oboro left after threatening Pariston, who realized Oboro had anticipated his plans and might know about the Chimera Ant crisis.

  • Oboro met Pariston at a café and asked why he had summoned him, while Pariston offered to help with his plans in Kakin.
  • Pariston deduced that Oboro intended to target a prince and use the Succession War to conceal the resulting conflict.
  • Oboro accused Pariston of deliberately seeking out Beyond to use him against Netero, and Pariston admitted Oboro had seen through him.
  • Oboro warned Pariston that he would kill him, demanded information about the Kakin royal family, and left the café.
  • Pariston concluded that Oboro knew Netero was nearing death and had anticipated Pariston's schemes involving the Chimera Ants and Beyond.

Ch. 177Your Master

Oboro arranged a meeting with First Prince Benjamin, intending to seize him rather than form an alliance. When Benjamin demanded that Oboro submit, Oboro declared that Benjamin would serve him, leaving their confrontation on the verge of violence.

  • Halkenburg agreed to invite Benjamin to meet Oboro, and Oboro lifted Honey Jar's curse and gave her an antidote.
  • Bare advised Oboro to approach Fifth Prince Tubeppa, but Oboro said he wanted to weaken the royal family and put his own people in power.
  • Benjamin arrived at the hotel with nine private soldiers, and Oboro revealed that he had arranged the meeting through Halkenburg.
  • Benjamin rejected Oboro's offer of cooperation and demanded that he become one of Benjamin's men.
  • Oboro told Benjamin that he would serve him, revealing that the meeting had been a trap to capture him.

Ch. 178Take Something

Oboro overpowered First Prince Benjamin and his private soldiers, then used ghosts to tear off part of Benjamin’s soul and trap it in a lantern-like cage. He let the surviving soldiers take Benjamin away, leaving them shaken and uncertain about what he had done.

  • Benjamin attacked Oboro, but Oboro caught his wrist and overwhelmed him with his physical strength and Nen.
  • Oboro forced Benjamin to kneel, then killed five of Benjamin’s nine private soldiers and prevented Wu Xiaohei from activating his ability.
  • Benjamin attacked again, but Oboro kicked him through a wall and left him unconscious.
  • Oboro threatened the surviving soldiers with Benjamin’s life and used ghosts to pull part of Benjamin’s soul from his body.
  • Oboro trapped the piece of Benjamin’s soul in a lantern-like cage, then ordered the four survivors to take Benjamin and leave.

Ch. 179Lord of Souls

After Oboro tore away part of Benjamin’s soul, the Crown Prince woke weakened and unable to control his body, while Rihan realized the missing soul fragment was being used to produce ghosts inside him. Oboro watched the events through the fragment in Thresh's Rigge's Lantern and prepared to keep tormenting Benjamin from afar.

  • Halkenburg felt guilty about Benjamin’s injury, but Rihan’s warning that exposing Oboro could get the Crown Prince killed stopped him from telling the king what he knew.
  • Rihan’s soldiers used an Exorcism ability on the unconscious Benjamin but found no Nen attached to his body, and Rihan concluded that Oboro had taken part of his soul and locked it in a cage.
  • Benjamin woke, tried to order an army mobilized against Oboro, and collapsed when he found his body and aura had grown weak.
  • A ghost emerged from Benjamin and threatened to consume his soul before the Exorcist devoured it, but more spirits then burst from Benjamin and returned to his body, causing him to faint again.
  • Rihan deduced that Oboro was using the stolen soul fragment as a medium for the ghosts, while Oboro watched through the fragment held inside Thresh's Rigge's Lantern.

Ch. 180Bring It On

Pariston realized that Oboro had openly begun acting against Kakin’s royal family, while Beyond recognized Oboro’s presence and chose to watch rather than interfere. Oboro prepared to expand the Fills Family’s influence through Honey Pot, wary that Beyond could disrupt his plans.

  • Pariston read reports of turmoil in the Kakin royal family and concluded that Beyond would notice Oboro’s attack on Benjamin.
  • Beyond visited the unconscious Benjamin, recognized Oboro’s aura, and left without warning King Nasubi Hui Guo Rou.
  • Oboro heard Beyond’s visit through Gray’s Lamp and accepted that Beyond and Pariston had uncovered his presence in Kakin.
  • Oboro reasoned that Beyond might try to recruit him, but rejected the prospect and warned Beyond not to meddle.
  • Oboro judged that the Fills Family could only slowly expand its influence through Honey Pot, since killing Nasubi would force a battle with Beyond.

Ch. 181Appointment

Benjamin agreed to work with Oboro and the Fills Family, accepting a plan to kill Salé-salé and Consort Swinko-Swinko despite the risk of provoking King Hui Guo Rou. As the meeting began at the National Assembly Hall, the king learned of it and alerted someone interested in the gathering.

  • Benjamin summoned Salé-salé as a pretext to lure him into an ambush, and Oboro proposed framing the Eighth Prince for the deaths of both him and Consort Swinko-Swinko.
  • Oboro pressured Benjamin to accept the plan, promising to restore his soul and help him seize the throne; Benjamin ordered his men to summon Salé-salé.
  • Consort Swinko-Swinko warned her son against meeting Benjamin, but Salé-salé dismissed her fears and went to the National Assembly Hall with her and his companions.
  • Benjamin's forces surrounded Salé-salé and the consort at the meeting site, while Bare prepared to kill them and make the deaths appear to result from a chaotic attack.
  • King Nasubi Hui Guo Rou received word that Benjamin and Salé-salé were meeting, then called someone and told them the person they were interested in was at the National Assembly Hall.
