Zhang Erdan's eyes lit up as he looked around, searching for Fine Leaf Fish left in the cracks between the rocks.
He couldn't beat the powerful sea beasts, but could he really not handle these palm-sized little fish? If that were the case, then all his martial training had been for nothing.
"Got one!" Zhang Erdan quickly spotted another Fine Leaf Fish flopping about in a rock crevice not far away.
His powers of observation were truly impressive. In just a few minutes, he had already found five.
Just as he approached to take the fifth Fine Leaf Fish, a sharp whistling sound suddenly tore through the air and rushed toward him.
"Get lost!" Accompanied by a furious shout, Zhang Erdan was kicked away before he could even react.
"What are you doing?!" Zhang Erdan immediately yelled angrily.
The newcomer was the Senior Disciple Brother from Duanhu Saber Hall he had seen before—Fang Shihao.
"Hm? Can't you tell? I'm picking up fish." Fang Shihao chuckled and picked up the Fine Leaf Fish.
"You! I found that first! You... you're openly robbing me!" Zhang Erdan fumed.
Fang Shihao narrowed his eyes and stared until Zhang Erdan began to feel uneasy.
"It'd be one thing if Song Hezheng from your gym came to say that to me. What the hell are you?"
Zhang Erdan's heart trembled, and he silently cursed his bad luck.
Though he was furious, he truly was no match for the other man. If they fought, he would definitely be the one to suffer.
When one's skills fell short, one could only swallow the insult.
Zhang Erdan said nothing and turned to leave, intending to find Song Hezheng and see whether he could stand up for him.
Fang Shihao swept his gaze over him and noticed the fish pouch tied at Zhang Erdan's waist. Four Fine Leaf Fish lay inside, and another thought immediately rose in his mind.
He had already stolen one fish. What did it matter if he stole a few more?
He glanced at Sun Chengshan's position in the distance. He was quite far away and did not seem to have noticed what was happening here.
Song Hezheng was nowhere nearby either, so Fang Shihao immediately called out.
"Stop. Did I say you could leave?"
He held his saber crosswise and blocked Zhang Erdan's path.
"You... what else do you want?!" Zhang Erdan's heart tightened. He could already sense the other man's ill intent.
Rumor had it that this guy had never been much of a decent person. Could it be that, because I'm so handsome, he wants to beat me up too?
Fang Shihao lifted his chin. "Four Fine Leaf Fish of mine just went missing. I suspect you took them.
"While I'm still in a good mood, you'd better hand them over yourself."
Zhang Erdan nearly spat blood from rage, his face turning bright red.
"This is going too far! You're going too far!"
He clutched the Fine Leaf Fish at his waist and looked in every direction, searching for help.
Suddenly, someone in the distance noticed him and began walking over.
Delight appeared on Zhang Erdan's face. "Junior Brother, hurry and get Master and Senior Disciple Brother to save me!"
"Junior Brother?" Fang Shihao turned around. Sure enough, someone was walking toward them, dressed in the disciple uniform of Shadowless Fist Gym.
"Courting death!" Fang Shihao finally lost his patience. He had only intended to pressure Zhang Erdan, this weakling.
But Zhang Erdan's stubbornness had instead stirred his anger.
"You won't give them up, is that it?!"
His figure moved, and he drew the long saber in his hand, charging straight at Zhang Erdan.
Zhang Erdan's face went pale. Fang Shihao's saber was too fast; there was no way he could fend it off.
And he realized that this man might truly kill him here!
"I-I'll give them to you! Don't kill me!"
Under the threat of death, he ultimately chose to hand over his fish.
Fang Shihao sneered contemptuously. "You won't shed tears until you see the coffin. Remember, you stole my fish. I didn't rob you."
Just as he was about to take Zhang Erdan's fish pouch, a calm voice came from behind him.
"Senior Brother Zhang, why did you run so far off by yourself? Master has been looking for you for ages." Wang Yu spoke.
Zhang Erdan gave Wang Yu a wronged expression even uglier than crying, stammering without being able to say a word.
Fang Shihao snatched the fish pouch from Zhang Erdan's hand, then turned to look at Wang Yu.
Just as he was about to speak, his gaze instantly locked onto the visibly larger fish pouch Wang Yu held.
With a rough glance, he could see at least a dozen Fine Leaf Fish piled inside. A brilliant smile immediately spread across his face.
"Since you've delivered yourself to my doorstep, I won't stand on ceremony."
With that, he carried his saber and walked toward Wang Yu.
Zhang Erdan stood behind him with a worried look, terrified that Wang Yu would resist. He kept signaling for Wang Yu not to act rashly and to wait until they returned and found Master to seek justice for them.
Wang Yu frowned. "Brother, after treating us like this today, aren't you afraid my Master and Senior Disciple Brother will come looking for trouble with you someday?"
"Threatening me?" Fang Shihao said shamelessly. "As long as I refuse to admit it, what can your Master do? Break the rules of the martial gym and come challenge our hall again? Or call the Security Bureau to arrest me? At worst, I'll pay a little compensation for medical expenses afterward."
"I never expected the dignified Senior Disciple Brother of Duanhu Saber Hall to be so utterly shameless." Wang Yu sounded rather moved.
Especially compared with Song Hezheng, his own Senior Disciple Brother was practically a saint.
Fang Shihao's expression darkened. "Kid, or I can make this even simpler. There's no one around. I'll kill both of you and say you were swallowed by the sea beasts that came ashore. Then no one will ever know what happened here!"
Killing intent surged from his entire body. He made it sound completely believable.
Zhang Erdan had yielded to precisely such threats before. Hearing it now made his heart pound wildly.
In Zhang Erdan's eyes, Fang Shihao had probably already killed countless people. He was a thoroughgoing butcher.
If he wanted to stay alive, the only thing he could do now was obey him and escape this place first.
Mom, the world of martial artists is far too dangerous! Facing the crisis of death, Zhang Erdan regretted becoming a martial artist for the first time.
He suddenly felt that listening to his mother and becoming an apprentice at a blacksmith shop would not have been so bad.
Martial artists seemed glamorous, and it was an excellent path forward. Anything connected to martial artists was worth far more than ordinary goods.
But it was also a highly dangerous profession.
Since one chose to practice martial arts, fighting and killing would be unavoidable in the future. One careless misstep, and one could die far from home.
By comparison, the days spent practicing fists at the martial gym were actually the safest.
But after encountering the coercion of an evil man like Fang Shihao, he had learned in advance just how perilous the world of martial artists was.
Wang Yu's thoughts were not as complicated as Zhang Erdan's. Once Fang Shihao approached, he untied the fish pouch from his waist and said,
"It doesn't matter if I give you these fish of mine."
As he spoke, he tossed the fish pouch in his hand toward Fang Shihao several steps away.
"Hmph, at least you know what's good for you." Fang Shihao snorted proudly and reached out to catch the fish pouch.
At that moment, Wang Yu's gaze sharpened. He unleashed his leg technique, his body erupting forward in an instant as he charged at Fang Shihao.
He was extremely fast, faster even than Body Tempering Fourth Layer Realm martial artists who did not cultivate leg techniques.
This caught Fang Shihao completely off guard.
He had never imagined that, aside from Song Hezheng, the Senior Disciple Brother, Shadowless Fist Gym had another disciple with the cultivation realm of Body Tempering Fourth Layer.
How could that be?!
He himself had only recently and barely cultivated the Duanhu Saber Technique to the fourth level, advancing to the Body Tempering Fourth Layer Realm and attaining the qualifications to complete his apprenticeship.
It was precisely because of this that he had become so swollen with arrogance, believing himself to be somebody in town.
Wasn't taking a few things from martial gym disciples as easy as snatching them with a flick of his hand?
Unfortunately, today he had kicked an iron plate hard as steel.
