The western part of the city.

In a dilapidated mansion, a side room bore scorch marks, while the courtyard pond lay stagnant and foul, overgrown with weeds and green moss.

No one lived here anymore.

Inside the courtyard, Li Yuanzhao and the others, dressed in black, followed Cui Fan with weapons in hand, searching the mansion for traces of monsters.

But the monsters here had evidently left long ago, and they found nothing.

Just as Cui Fan was about to call it a day, a gray sparrow suddenly flew over.

Surprised, Cui Fan raised his hand to receive it.

The sparrow obediently landed on his hand, a rolled-up note tied to its leg.

He unrolled the note with his fingers and read it carefully. His expression changed abruptly.

"What's wrong?"

Yu Wei, standing nearby, hurriedly asked.

Cui Fan clenched the note, his expression grim. "The patrol assignment is over. We've just received word that monsters are attacking the city. We're to gather at the City Defense Command in the west first and see how they assign us."

"Monsters are attacking the city?"

All of them froze, stunned.

Even though they had always lived deep within human territory, they knew how serious a monster attack on a city was.

"Then let's hurry over!" Li Yuanzhao was the first to react and immediately spoke up.

Cui Fan's expression kept shifting. He could not understand why monsters would attack the city.

Could the report have exaggerated things?

They could only go to the western part of the city and see.

"Let's go." He called to them and was about to lead the way out.

Suddenly, two figures flew swiftly over, descending from the sky before rushing toward them one after the other.

"Qian Qian!"

"Yuanzhao!"

The arrivals were Wei Feng and Li Fu.
