Ch. 22I, Gastly, God of Alleyway Battles!

After an ambush in a Canalave City alley, Jing He and Steven ate together while discussing why Steven had been targeted. Steven began reflecting on his future and how to thank Jing He, only to be stopped by the restaurant owner asking him to pay the bill.

  • Officer Jenny warned Jing He and Steven to trust the Alliance Police if they encountered trouble again, and Steven thanked Jing He for calling them.
  • Jing He took Steven to a small restaurant, where Gastly eagerly ate several meals while the two discussed the ambushers’ likely target and motives.
  • Steven reasoned that the attackers were probably connected to a conflict with Devon Corporation or the Stone family, and Jing He praised his abilities while telling him he still did not understand himself well enough.
  • Steven thanked Gastly for helping them in the alley, and Gastly reacted with shy excitement.
  • After Jing He and Gastly left, Steven considered how to thank Jing He, then the restaurant owner asked him to pay the bill.

Ch. 23Been Boosted?

Jing He discovered that Professor Oak’s comment had unexpectedly made his obscure research paper popular, bringing attention to both him and his Pokémon Psychology Consulting Room. The chapter left him facing a surge of new inquiries from Trainers.

  • Gastly watched a Moomoo Milk advertisement, and Jing He agreed to order it a case of milk.
  • Jing He wondered why more people were greeting him at the academy and suspected Steven Stone had missed his hint about being short on money.
  • Jing He logged into the League website to check for a reply from Mewtwo and found hundreds of comments on his paper instead.
  • Jing He saw his paper pinned among the popular research posts and wondered whether someone had paid to boost it.
  • Jing He discovered that Professor Oak had praised his paper and offered help with obtaining numerical data.
  • Jing He saw that the paper’s sudden popularity had brought a rush of questions to his consulting room.

Ch. 24"Money Tree"

Jing He advised Eevee Eating Cabbage on treating an insecure Feebas by testing whether it could eat bitter food, with the goal of raising its Beauty so it could evolve. After receiving a 20,000 League Credit consultation fee, he ordered more Moomoo Milk for Gastly and took it out to train.

  • Jing He answered several visitors’ Pokémon-care questions and asked Eevee Eating Cabbage to share a picture of the insecure Pokémon.
  • Jing He identified the Pokémon as Feebas and recommended feeding it a bitter Wiki Berry before deciding on further treatment.
  • Jing He planned to raise Feebas’s Beauty to help it evolve into Milotic and asked whether it could accept bitter flavors.
  • Eevee Eating Cabbage sent Jing He 20,000 League Credits as a consultation fee.
  • Jing He ordered two more cases of Moomoo Milk, then took Gastly out to train for their upcoming goals.

Ch. 25Sinnoh, Cynthia

Jing He trained Gastly to deepen its Hypnosis, while Cynthia visited Professor Rowan to test whether Wiki Berries could help her Feebas. Feebas eagerly ate the berry and became more lively, leaving Rowan curious about Jing Zhong Zhi He’s method.

  • Jing He reviewed Gastly’s improved training results and continued practicing Hypnosis with it, teaching it to prolong the effects and intensify its psychological impact.
  • Cynthia returned to Professor Rowan’s institute after her match and explained that Jing Zhong Zhi He had advised her to give Feebas Wiki Berries.
  • Cynthia offered Feebas a Wiki Berry, and after some reassurance, it ate the berry and showed a satisfied, more active response.
  • Professor Rowan cautiously concluded that Feebas liked Wiki Berries and seemed livelier, then asked Cynthia for the name of the person who had suggested the treatment.

Ch. 26Autumn Excursion (1)

Jing He joined his students and fellow teachers for the Academy’s autumn excursion to Lavaridge Town, while Gastly got into trouble on the bus. As the trip continued, Steven Stone asked Jing He whether he planned to visit the hot springs that night.

  • Jing He prepared for the excursion, shared Gastly’s Moomoo Milk, and met the teachers responsible for the Battle Department’s first-year class.
  • Jing He registered the arriving students, thanked Steven Stone for helping bring attention to his research paper, and waited for the late-arriving Flannery and her Ponyta.
  • The class departed for Lavaridge Town, and Gastly was blown smaller by the wind on the bus roof before Jing He returned it to his pocket.
  • Jing He read news about Cynthia and a huge Graveler, then advised Eevee Eating Cabbage to try Wiki Berry Energy Cubes or Poffins for Feebas.
  • Steven Stone sat beside Jing He and asked whether he planned to soak in the hot springs that night.

Ch. 27Autumn Excursion (2)

Jing He and his students arrived in Lavaridge Town, where Flannery tried to persuade him to take them to Mt. Chimney. He agreed to let them go only if Flannery won a Pokémon battle, and she accepted without realizing Jing He had talked her into challenging him.

  • Jing He was assigned to share a room with Steven Stone, and the students received free time limited to Lavaridge Town.
  • Flannery invited Jing He, Steven Stone, and Roxanne to lunch at a local restaurant, where Gastly ate the most.
  • Flannery proposed visiting Mt. Chimney, but Jing He repeatedly refused because it was outside the approved area.
  • Flannery threatened to sneak out with the others, and Steven Stone admitted he wanted to look for special volcanic stone on the mountain.
  • Jing He accepted Flannery's challenge, offering to let them go to Mt. Chimney if she won and requiring her to listen to him if she lost.

Ch. 28Autumn Excursion (3)

Jing He defeated Flannery’s Houndour in a battle at an abandoned arena outside Lavaridge Town. Flannery accepted the loss and promised to challenge him again, while Jing He grew interested in how her teamwork with Houndour might develop.

  • Flannery challenged Jing He at an abandoned battle arena as Steven Stone and Roxanne watched.
  • Flannery sent out Houndour, whose Bite missed when Gastly used Astonish, and Jing He followed with Curse.
  • Jing He had Gastly use Hypnosis, putting Houndour to sleep before Flannery could follow up with Leer.
  • Jing He ended the battle and warned Flannery to treat Houndour before Curse’s effects worsened.
  • Flannery accepted defeat, quickly cheered up, and told Jing He she would challenge him again.

Ch. 29Autumn Excursion (4)

Jing He relaxed in Lavaridge Town’s hot springs with Steven Stone and their Pokémon, then considered a message from a Pokémon separatist and tried to reach him without dismissing his concerns. The peaceful soak ended when a sudden roar and Roxanne and Flannery’s screams came from beyond the divider.

  • Jing He asked Steven Stone to call him by his name, and Steven explained that nearby hot spring establishments belonged to his family.
  • Gastly unexpectedly leapt from the water, and Jing He and Steven Stone summoned their Pokémon to join the soak, with only Gastly and Metang entering the pool.
  • Jing He read Eevee Eating Cabbage’s request for psychological treatment for Feebas but declined to arrange an in-person meeting.
  • Jing He received Digital Magician’s claim that Pokémon should live separately from humans and replied by urging him to rescue abused Pokémon.
  • Gastly mimicked Cloyster with a misty shell and spikes, making Jing He laugh, before a roar and screams from Roxanne and Flannery abruptly interrupted them.

Ch. 30Changes on Mt. Chimney

A boulder broke through the hot springs in Lavaridge Town as flames appeared on Mt. Chimney, prompting Jing He, Steven Stone, and Flannery to investigate. Gastly scouted a glowing fissure and returned with word that something huge was inside.

  • A massive boulder smashed through the barrier between the hot springs, and Jing He and the others spotted firelight on Mt. Chimney.
  • Jing He sent Roxanne to alert local authorities and teachers while he, Steven Stone, and Flannery went to investigate.
  • Flannery led Jing He and Steven Stone up a dangerous shortcut to a platform where frightened Geodude, Graveler, and fleeing Zubat revealed signs of danger.
  • Jing He sent Gastly into the glowing fissure to scout, and Gastly returned saying something huge was inside.

Ch. 31Warning! Warning!

Jing He and Steven Stone entered Mt. Chimney’s fissure and found a gigantic Camerupt whose berserk state was causing lava to leak from the volcano. They began fighting it, but Camerupt prepared a powerful Fissure attack as the cavern shook around them.

  • Gastly described the dangerous Pokémon inside Mt. Chimney, and Jing He and Flannery stopped a stream of lava from flowing down the mountain.
  • Jing He and Steven Stone entered the fissure with Gastly and Baltoy, following Gastly’s lead into a volcanic chamber.
  • They found frightened Numel and a gigantic, berserk Camerupt whose eruptions had opened a lava-leaking gash in the rock wall.
  • Camerupt attacked, so Jing He and Steven Stone used Confusion, Curse, Sand Attack, and Mud-Slap to defend themselves and wear it down.
  • Camerupt gathered energy for Fissure, and Jing He worried that its attack would cause a devastating disturbance in the cavern.

Ch. 32Heatran!

Jing He and Steven Stone subdued the frenzied Camerupt with a Toxic Orb, then encountered Heatran as they prepared to repair Mt. Chimney’s lava fissure. The chapter ended with Heatran and Jing He reacting urgently to a strange red stone Gastly had found in the crack.

  • Camerupt’s Fissure failed to harm Jing He and Steven Stone’s Pokémon, and Steven gave Jing He a Toxic Orb to use against it.
  • Jing He had Gastly swallow the Toxic Orb while Steven Stone’s Pokémon restrained Camerupt, leaving it badly poisoned until it collapsed.
  • Jing He and Steven Stone prepared to seal the lava fissure, but Heatran appeared in a nearby tunnel and signaled for them to leave.
  • Gastly spotted a strange red stone in the fissure, and Jing He and Heatran both urgently told it to get away from the stone.

Ch. 33Former Elite Four

Jing He and Steven Stone escaped Mt. Chimney after meeting Heatran, which guarded a dangerous magma-sealed rock. At Lavaridge Gym, Mula identified Heatran as Mt. Chimney’s guardian, while Officer Jenny and Nurse Joy took charge of the weakened Camerupt; that night, Jing He tricked Gastly into licking its Toxic Orb.

  • Jing He warned Gastly not to disturb a striped red rock in the magma, then he and Steven Stone left the cavern after thanking Heatran with Moomoo Milk and Energy Cubes.
  • Flannery and former Elite Four member Mula met Jing He and Steven Stone outside Mt. Chimney, where Mula scolded Flannery and thanked Jing He for looking after her.
  • At Lavaridge Gym, Mula revealed that he knew Heatran, the guardian deity of Mt. Chimney, and Steven Stone explained that it was the legendary Fire-Steel Volcano Pokémon.
  • Nurse Joy and Officer Jenny took the weakened Camerupt for treatment and investigation, and Jing He suggested checking whether its rampage was connected to a giant Graveler found near Mauville City.
  • That night, Jing He gave Gastly its Toxic Orb and claimed Nurse Joy had removed it with an instrument, leaving Gastly horrified when it noticed his discarded isolation glove.

Ch. 34N

N resisted his castle lessons while thinking about becoming a hero, and Jing He’s class continued its Mt. Chimney excursion with battles and a gift of Will-O-Wisp training notes. The chapter ended with Jing He watching Steven Stone battle and judging that Steven’s Skarmory was being underused.

  • N sat outside the castle with Arcanine, reflected on a message about becoming a hero, and answered when he was called to etiquette lessons.
  • Jing He reassured Gastly that Nurse Joy had safely removed the Toxic Orb from Camerupt, while Gastly insisted the discarded gloves and orb were theirs to keep.
  • A student proposed class battles, and Flannery gave Jing He a book of Will-O-Wisp insights from her grandfather, Mula.
  • Jing He read Mula’s notes and gained ideas for training Gastly, while deciding he might later seek assessment as a League Registered Trainer.
  • Steven Stone joined the class battles and sent his Skarmory’s opponent flying with Wing Attack, prompting Jing He to think the Pokémon was being wasted in such a battle.

Ch. 35Dirty? Not Really

Jing He gave Steven Stone advice on using Skarmory in an entry-hazard stalling strategy, drawing complaints from Flannery and interest from Roxanne. He then took Gastly to train with special Energy Cubes, but Gastly burst into tears after eating a bitter one.

  • Gastly woke Jing He by licking his cheek, and Jing He swallowed a Cheri Berry to recover from the paralysis.
  • Jing He gave Steven Stone Skarmory tactics involving Stealth Rock, Spikes, Whirlwind, defensive moves, and stalling.
  • Flannery called the tactics dirty and asked Jing He to teach her too, while Roxanne considered the strategy.
  • Jing He left the group’s Autumn Excursion to train Gastly with Energy Cubes made from Charti Berries and Salac Berries.
  • Gastly enjoyed the spicy Charti Berry cube but cried after tasting the bitter Salac Berry cube.

Ch. 36A Ghost in the Family Comes of Age

Jing He and Gastly fought off a wild Seviper after Gastly’s stray Will-O-Wisp burned it and it tried to ambush Jing He. Gastly defeated Seviper with a frightening Hypnosis, and the chapter ended with Seviper waking to discover its fangs were missing.

  • Gastly vented its bitterness by blasting a rock with Will-O-Wisp, accidentally scattering flames into the surrounding grass.
  • A burned Seviper sprang from the grass and charged Jing He, but Gastly dodged its attacks and struck it with Astonish.
  • Jing He reminded Gastly that Seviper feared Zangoose, and Gastly used Hypnosis to make it imagine a horde of Zangoose until it collapsed.
  • Jing He and Gastly left Seviper unconscious and headed back toward Lavaridge Town.
  • Seviper woke about half an hour later, found no Zangoose nearby, and screamed when it realized its fangs were gone.

Ch. 37"Toxic" Training Method?

Jing He discovered that Gastly could strengthen its Toxic Mist by compressing it through Seviper’s fangs, then took Gastly for a Pokémon examination in Lavaridge Town. The examination found Gastly healthy but slightly indigested, and Jing He learned that Drake wanted his help investigating the Mt. Chimney incident.

  • Gastly showed Jing He that it had taken Seviper’s fangs and used them to compress Toxic Mist into corrosive venom.
  • Jing He had Gastly add the Toxic Orb’s toxicity, making the venom even stronger, and suspected Gastly could learn Toxic through the method.
  • Jing He brought Gastly to the Lavaridge Town Pokémon Center for an examination and worried about its recovery and training.
  • Nurse Joy confirmed Gastly was in good condition but warned that it might have indigestion.
  • Jing He read a message about Feebas’s improving condition and advised its owner to limit its food and separate it from other Water-type Pokémon.
  • Nurse Joy told Jing He that Camerupt had awakened and that Drake had arrived in Lavaridge Town and wanted his help with the investigation.

Ch. 38Is "Hypnosis" Legit?

Jing He met Elite Four Drake at Lavaridge Gym and used Gastly’s Hypnosis and a calming memory to settle the distressed Camerupt. Drake asked Jing He to help calm other rampaging Pokémon, and Jing He agreed for ten thousand League Credits per Pokémon.

  • Jing He went to Lavaridge Gym, where Officer Jenny introduced him to Drake, who was investigating the Camerupt incident.
  • Mula and Drake argued while Camerupt grew agitated, so Jing He sent Gastly to use Hypnosis and soothed Camerupt with a comforting memory.
  • Drake praised Jing’s Pokémon psychology skills and asked whether his Hypnosis was legitimate.
  • Drake asked Jing to help calm other distressed Pokémon, and Jing initially refused because the work was difficult and risky.
  • Drake offered ten thousand League Credits per Pokémon, and Jing accepted while Gastly reacted in surprise.

Ch. 39The God of Reimbursements!

Jing He prepared reimbursement forms for the Pokémon injured during the Camerupt incident, padding some expenses with Drake’s tacit approval so the Pokémon would have supplies. When Gastly broke its phone, Jing He added replacement phones to the claim, leaving Gastly impressed by his reimbursement skills.

  • Jing He filled out medical records and reimbursement forms for Camerupt and the Pokémon injured in the battle.
  • Gastly questioned padded claims for clothing, supplies, and Luxury Balls, and Jing He explained that Drake’s approval would ensure the reimbursement passed.
  • Jing He revealed that Drake had agreed to support the claims because he cared about Pokémon and wanted the injured Pokémon to have food and medicine.
  • Gastly accidentally dropped and shattered its old phone while celebrating, and Jing He added the smashed phone to the reimbursement form.
  • Jing He wrote down two phones on the claim, and Gastly praised him as the god of reimbursements.

Ch. 40It's 'Toxic'!

After the Autumn Excursion, Jing He received the supplies from his reimbursement application and asked Gastly whether it truly wanted to train and battle. Gastly made clear it wanted to pursue its ambitions, so Jing He doubled its training workload, leaving them playfully wrestling at home.

  • At Lavaridge Gym, Drake laughed at a reimbursement form and told a subordinate to print fifty copies as the standard for future applications.
  • Jing He finished handing in the students’ attendance sheets and returned home with Gastly after the Autumn Excursion ended.
  • Dragonite delivered Jing He’s reimbursement supplies, and Jing He tipped it with Energy Cubes before opening the package with Gastly.
  • Jing He checked his League account and research paper, then asked Gastly whether it liked training and battling.
  • Gastly signaled that it wanted to pursue its ambitions, so Jing He doubled its training workload and wrestled with it as it protested.
