Mending the Ring Curtain's Gap

After searching all night, the team finally found some useful clues. They compiled them and delivered them to Commissioner Cao.

One team member reported, "The records clearly state that, to spread his teachings overseas, Grandmaster Hongfa once entrusted a treasure to the Gong Royal Family for safekeeping.

"They don't specify what it was. Supposedly, it could swallow filth and purge poison, so it was very likely the Myriad If Food. That matches the account in the sea travelogue we found.

"But a great fire broke out at the Gong Clan's estate during the Chen Pavilion Rebellion. It destroyed treasures and archives accumulated over more than two hundred years. Many rebellious warriors also divided up the royal family's property and fled with it. So we can't say whether the item is still there."

Commissioner Cao finished reading every record. "Is there nothing about the World Crossing Disc?"

The team member shook his head. "Not a single mention."

"Then keep looking," Commissioner Cao said. The staff nodded in acknowledgment.

Commissioner Cao turned toward the statue of Grandmaster Hongfa above him. Eight hundred years ago, the Zen Sect had lost its struggle against the Xuan Sect. Its three supreme guardians had departed in three directions—east, west, and south—each carrying two Zen Sect treasures. Grandmaster Hongfa had been one of them, and he had taken the Myriad If Food and the World Crossing Disc.

The Myriad If Food could wait. Though it was a treasure, it was relatively less important. What they needed to find this time was the World Crossing Disc! Rumor held that Grandmaster Hongfa had eventually crossed to the other side of the Rift, but he was unlikely to have taken the disc with him. It would have been useless in that world.

A voice sounded behind him. "Commissioner."
