The eerie light flared outward for a while before finally receding. What appeared before Chen Chuan looked, at first glance, like a gigantic human face.

Its outer shell resembled bone, covered in intricate, uneven patterns. Huge, deep eye sockets occupied its upper half, packed with countless eyeballs that made the scalp crawl.

Tentacle-like branches extended from several places on the shell, each ending in a sharp hook. Beneath it were long, curved, many-jointed limbs. It seemed to be floating, countless tendrils waving and stirring below.

A huge, swirling vortex hung behind it. Wisps of luminous vapor stretched out from within and connected to its body. Twisted light and shadow surrounded it, as though it were merging with or eroding its surroundings on some deeper level. But the process seemed unstable: parts of it vanished, then reappeared.

Chen Chuan could tell at a glance what was happening. The thing had only just entered the material world, and its connection to this world was not yet secure. What he saw was both real and a phantom image.
