History
World Tokens are integrated into everyday urban life: users can consult location data, transit schedules, advertisements, and personal virtual environments through them, while public platforms allow spectators to participate in distant events via realistic projected avatars. 237 271
Chen Chuan receives a practical universal model while preparing to enroll at Wuyi Academy. Its biological construction makes it lightweight, durable, and capable of repairing damage when placed in a compatible nutrient solution. 234
The Handling Bureau later supplies Chen with a superior non-implant model designed for field work. It includes sensory functions beyond ordinary communication, including scent identification, projected-figure visibility, and long-distance hearing. 266
As Chen's own Mental Power develops, he becomes increasingly able to sense field information without relying entirely on a World Token. Even so, he continues to use one as a practical amplifier and interface for information that would otherwise be difficult to sort and interpret. 585
Later models are adapted to increasingly dangerous conditions. Ordinary World Tokens can mutate rapidly inside rifts and therefore must be left outside, while the Advisory Council's specially issued token is stated to withstand contamination from the other side of the World Ring and connect its holder to higher-level power. 943 1471
Forms and Construction
World Tokens do not have a single fixed design. Their form and capabilities vary by manufacturer, price, organization, and intended environment.
- A common universal model resembles an almost transparent visor with tiny tube-like veins, bone tubes that wrap around the head and face, and a clasp at the nape. 234
- The visor model is made from biological material and can self-repair in a compatible nutrient solution. 234
- Handling Bureau models may include neck guards and membranes that integrate with protective masks. 266
- Some custom-made versions grow close to their user's body, repair themselves with the user's tissue, and incorporate defensive shielding against Resonators. 286
- Specialized wilderness models are built to withstand Convergence Zone interference, though one such model can only be used roughly twenty-four or twenty-five times. 892
- The Advisory Council's World Token takes the form of a pale, irregular spiral of nearly transparent threads. It can unfold into mist and enter its owner's field like a life-bound weapon. 1471
Functions
Information Field Interface
World Tokens display field-based information through Light Screens and can overlay data onto physical surroundings.
- Shows maps, local positioning, transportation schedules, advertisements, and platform information. 237
- Displays combat records, win rates, personality assessments, popularity ratings, and other fighter-related data on specialized platforms. 1102
- Can compare old vertical texts with modern horizontal text for easier reading. 347
- Identifies documented Convergence Zone species and can provide known weaknesses and handling methods. 718
- Can replay and accelerate recorded visual information supplied by modified creatures. 1007
Communication and Coordination
World Tokens serve as direct communication devices and can connect users to shared field channels.
- Users can send contact requests, exchange images, transmit locations, and share files. 243 294
- A convoy's World Tokens can be organized into regional channels and restricted subchannels for coordinated travel. 463
- World Token signals can be received by compatible equipment, allowing stored information to be transferred to a visor. 1052
- They can connect users with Active Consciousness Entities, including Dan Xin Hall's Kaiyang. 1471
Projection and Virtual Access
World Tokens provide access to virtual or semi-virtual environments built from field technology.
- Users can project realistic avatars into arenas through Boundary Points even when they cannot attend physically. 271
- Virtual scenes may combine World Token-rendered distant environments with physical props and lighting in the foreground. 486
- Access to Boundary Points can be restricted or opened through organizational authorization. 290
Sensory and Analytical Support
Higher-grade models can supplement a user's senses and process external data.
- A Handling Bureau model can identify unusual scents, display projected figures, and relay distant sounds when the user concentrates. 266
- Advanced Active Consciousness Entity systems connected through World Tokens can tailor displayed content to a user's observed interests and potentially infer personal and physical information. 1103
- The Advisory Council's model can communicate with Kaiyang and provide detailed sensing of selected locations through simulated fields and real-world data. 1472
Storage and Records
World Tokens can store, retrieve, and transmit significant amounts of information.
- A World Token can preserve evidence of field interference and strong signals for official review. 290
- Certain tokens function as concealed storage devices, releasing information only after contact with a designated badge. 678
- Storage Sheaths can be inserted into a World Token to display archived materials and records. 1259
- Specialized models can record rare Convergence Zone creatures when ordinary cameras and standard tokens are compromised by overlapping fields. 892
Limitations
- Turning off a World Token can prevent field-based effects that rely on it as a receiver. 289
- Resonators can interfere with World Tokens, disrupt their functions, attack connected Implant Bodies, or use them as observation receivers for field projections. 305 317
- Powerful contamination and invasive phenomena can cause a World Token to stop functioning entirely. 263
- Standard models cannot safely accompany users into certain rifts because their semi-living nature makes them vulnerable to rapid mutation. 943
- Environmental interference in the Convergence Zone can sharply limit ordinary models, necessitating specially constructed devices with finite use counts. 892
