History

World Tokens are integrated into everyday urban life: users can consult location data, transit schedules, advertisements, and personal virtual environments through them, while public platforms allow spectators to participate in distant events via realistic projected avatars. 237 271

Chen Chuan receives a practical universal model while preparing to enroll at Wuyi Academy. Its biological construction makes it lightweight, durable, and capable of repairing damage when placed in a compatible nutrient solution. 234

The Handling Bureau later supplies Chen with a superior non-implant model designed for field work. It includes sensory functions beyond ordinary communication, including scent identification, projected-figure visibility, and long-distance hearing. 266

As Chen's own Mental Power develops, he becomes increasingly able to sense field information without relying entirely on a World Token. Even so, he continues to use one as a practical amplifier and interface for information that would otherwise be difficult to sort and interpret. 585

Later models are adapted to increasingly dangerous conditions. Ordinary World Tokens can mutate rapidly inside rifts and therefore must be left outside, while the Advisory Council's specially issued token is stated to withstand contamination from the other side of the World Ring and connect its holder to higher-level power. 943 1471

World Tokens do not have a single fixed design. Their form and capabilities vary by manufacturer, price, organization, and intended environment.
