Ch. 1Humble Freedom

After criticizing the idea that only the Nika Fruit’s owner could claim the future, Gawain was transported into the One Piece world as a Celestial Dragon. He witnessed a mermaid slave die and stood face-to-face with Charlos, leaving his response to her death unresolved.

  • Gawain posted a rant arguing that people without the Nika Fruit should also have a chance to become Pirate King and shape the future.
  • Gawain vanished from his sofa and awakened in the One Piece world, where a mermaid had collided with him.
  • Charlos shot the mermaid, and Gawain realized he was wearing Celestial Dragon robes and had become one of them.
  • Charlos mocked Gawain and explained that the mermaid was his slave who had tried to escape.
  • Gawain approached the dying mermaid as she apologized for bumping into him, then watched her die.

Ch. 2This Won't Blow Over Easily

After witnessing a Merfolk’s death, Gawain ordered Walter to return her body and dismissed him for acting without permission. Mjosgard arrived to take the corpse back to Fish-Man Island, and Gawain turned on Charlos, preparing to beat him.

  • Gawain stopped Walter from destroying the Merfolk’s corpse and ordered him to bring it back.
  • Gawain reprimanded Walter for making decisions on his behalf, ordered him to lay the Merfolk to rest, and dismissed him from Mary Geoise.
  • Mjosgard arrived, took the Merfolk’s body, and said he would return her to Fish-Man Island and apologize to her late queen’s husband.
  • Gawain told Mjosgard he wanted to accompany him later, then confronted Charlos over the events and grabbed him by the collar.

Ch. 3Is This the Presence You Wanted?

Gawain beat Saint Charlos after a slave collided with him, but Charlos struck back and badly injured him. As Charlos aimed his pistol at Gawain, Gawain awakened Conqueror's Haki, knocking out people across Mary Geoise and leveling the nearby buildings.

  • Gawain punched Saint Charlos repeatedly while the slaves celebrated and the guards stood aside.
  • Gawain struggled to lift Charlos's golden pistol, and Charlos realized Gawain was physically weaker before punching him across the plaza.
  • The guards moved to protect Gawain, but Charlos ordered them aside, picked up his pistol, and aimed it at Gawain.
  • Gawain awakened Conqueror's Haki, which knocked out most people in Mary Geoise, blasted away Charlos and nearby guards, and collapsed buildings within two hundred meters.
  • Gawain identified the power as Conqueror's Haki and asked Charlos if this was the presence he wanted.

Ch. 4Conqueror's Haki and Kong

Gawain awakened powerful Conqueror's Haki in Mary Geoise, injuring himself and incapacitating people across the area. He stopped Kong from ordering the witnesses killed and demanded that the slaves be spared, while the Marines and others reacted to the Haki's shock wave.

  • On Elegia, the girl found terrified Broadcast Den Den Mushi on the beach and brought them to Gordon.
  • At the Sabaody Archipelago auction, disgruntled guests complained about the poor selection of slaves, while Rayleigh sensed a terrifying presence from afar.
  • Gawain's Conqueror's Haki blasted open the clouds near Marineford, and Sengoku ordered Kizaru to be contacted about the disturbance at Mary Geoise.
  • Kong arrived at the scene, identified Gawain's awakening, and ordered witnesses killed except for Celestial Dragons and soldiers.
  • Gawain stopped Kong, asked to be put down, and ordered that the slaves be spared; he then welcomed the Five Elders' request to meet him.
  • Gawain said he wanted people to learn that he had beaten Charlos, and the slaves who woke around him remembered his defense of them.

Ch. 5Five Elders

After Gawain’s Conqueror’s Haki devastated the area, CP0 carried his injured body to the Five Elders, who each tried to recruit him to their field of responsibility. When the Elders released their own Haki against him, Gawain answered with another eruption of power.

  • Steel Bone Kong ordered the nearby area cleaned and the unconscious people settled, while forbidding anyone from killing the slaves.
  • CP0 carried Gawain on his sofa to the Five Elders’ pavilion in Sabaody Castle.
  • The Shoulder-Length Haired Elder ordered that Bartholomew Kuma be sent to Mary Geoise, then recognized Gawain as the source of the immense Conqueror’s Haki.
  • The Five Elders described their responsibilities and each tried to persuade Gawain to succeed them in their respective fields.
  • The Five Elders released an invisible pressure against Gawain, and he challenged them before unleashing his Conqueror’s Haki again.

Ch. 6We Were All Once Who You Used to Be

Gawain challenged the Five Elders over Mary Geoise’s corruption, and they explained that they too had been born among the Celestial Dragons and awakened Conqueror’s Haki. They began revealing how the Five Elders ruled the world, insisting Gawain would learn who they truly were.

  • The Sword-Wielding Elder confirmed Gawain possessed extraordinary Conqueror’s Haki and asked what ambition had awakened it.
  • Gawain questioned why the Five Elders had made Mary Geoise corrupt.
  • The Sword-Wielding Elder said the Five Elders had grown up in the same corrupt environment and suggested Gawain wanted to change it.
  • The Blonde-Haired Elder explained that the Five Elders changed over time, with successors replacing predecessors who eventually rested in the depths of the Red Line.
  • The Shoulder-Length Haired Elder and Mustached Elder said Gawain needed to see beyond individual suffering and understand the Celestial Dragons’ rule.
  • The Judge-Haired Elder promised to show Gawain who the Five Elders truly were and began explaining how they ruled the world.

Ch. 7The Celestial Dragons' Goal

The Five Elders explained to Gawain that their five positions represented the core elements of politics and revealed the Celestial Dragons’ founding ambition: to abolish the allied nations’ rule over their territories and unite the world under one government. They left Gawain with their demand that he remember the dream of great unification.

  • Sword-Wielding Elder carried the injured Gawain into the Five Elders’ office, where the Elders asked why there were five of them.
  • Gawain identified law, culture, economy, diplomacy, and military affairs as the pillars of politics, and Diplomat Elder praised his answer.
  • When Gawain joked that the Celestial Dragons wanted to destroy the world, the Elders laughed and recalled how younger members had once challenged their rule.
  • Elder of Diplomacy told Gawain that the World Government’s goal was to end the allied nations’ control of their territories and claim every inch of land.
  • Elder of Diplomacy declared that the founders had intended to create one unified nation and urged Gawain to carry on the dream of great unification.

Ch. 8Chapter 8

Gawain questioned the Five Elders’ dream of grand unification, and the Elder of Diplomacy revealed that the World Government’s ancestors had fought every race and nation during the Void Century but could not unite the world because of poor transportation. Gawain listened to their account of the world’s history and ended by asking what the Will of D was.

  • Gawain challenged the Five Elders, asking whether their pursuit of grand unification had caused pirates, misery, and the cruelty of Celestial Dragons like Charlos.
  • The Elder of Diplomacy admitted that the ancestors of the Celestial Dragons had created those conditions and explained that the Void Century recorded their war against the world’s races and nations.
  • The Elder of Diplomacy showed Gawain a complete world map and described how the Red Line and Grand Line divided the world into the Four Blues.
  • The Elder of Diplomacy said the ancestors could not unify the world because sea travel was too slow, so they accepted affiliated nations and the Empty Throne as conditions for peace.
  • Gawain said he understood some of the burden the Five Elders carried, then asked why pirates were rampant and what the Will of D was.

Ch. 9The Secret of D

The Elder of Diplomacy explained how the World Government had used pirates and the Continent Bridge project to control the nations, and how Roger’s announcement triggered the Great Pirate Era. The Elder of Military revealed that the Will of D came from the cheerful resilience of the Kingdom of Joy’s people, while Gawain’s worsening injuries made him lose consciousness.

  • The Elder of Diplomacy described the World Government’s history, its use of pirates to pressure affiliated nations, and its centuries-long Continent Bridge project.
  • The Elder of Diplomacy said Roger’s announcement had drawn young pirates into the New World and disrupted the balance that had kept the Four Blues under pressure.
  • Gawain reasoned that the Great Pirate Era had drained the Four Blues of young people, weakened local protection and Marine branches, and increased hardship for commoners.
  • The Elder of Military explained that the Will of D was not a particular goal but the cheerful, resilient nature of the people of the Kingdom of Joy.
  • Gawain’s injuries worsened as he listened, and he lost consciousness before the Elders could finish speaking.

Ch. 10The Emperor of a Fallen Nation!

Gawain dreamed of Xianyang Palace and saw a message urging the descendants of Immortal Qin to fight and become emperors. After waking in the Pirate King world, he learned that Charlos had taken his former servants, while his new chief maid Brooke could not remember them or Gawain’s past; the chapter ended with Gawain wondering whether Xianyang Palace had brought him there to become an emperor.

  • Gawain dreamed that he sat in Xianyang Palace and read a scroll calling on the descendants of Immortal Qin to fight and become emperors.
  • Gawain woke in his bed and confirmed that his arrival in the Pirate King world and his recent conflict with Charlos had been real.
  • Brooke introduced herself as Gawain’s new chief maid and explained that Charlos had taken all of Gawain’s former servants.
  • Gawain questioned Brooke and discovered that she could not remember his former servants or recall having known him before.
  • Gawain reassured Brooke and asked her to bring him clothes while he wondered whether Xianyang Palace had brought him to the world to become an emperor.

Ch. 11What Does a Simple Wipe-Down Even Mean?

Gawain considered the Celestial Dragons’ political power and the Five Elders’ strategy before receiving a call device from CP0 agent Ambrose. He chose a white suit and agreed to a simple wipe-down, only to realize Brooke might mean something far more involved.

  • Gawain reasoned that the Five Elders were weakening allied nations through gradual pressure and that the Revolutionary Army’s rebellions also damaged those nations.
  • Brooke presented Gawain with traditional Celestial Dragon outfits, but he disliked their styles and asked for another batch.
  • Ambrose delivered two Den Den Mushi from the Five Elders, explained their functions, and apologized for entering without warning.
  • Gawain warned Ambrose not to surprise him again, then asked Brooke to prepare a white suit like the agent’s.
  • Brooke offered Gawain a shower, hot spring bath, or simple wipe-down, and Gawain agreed before questioning what she meant.

Ch. 12You Won't Become One of Them

After recovering, Gawain spoke with the Five Elders and received permission to travel freely so he could train and grow stronger. The Sword-Wielding Elder warned him to remember his allegiance: he could use pirates, Marines, or the Revolutionary Army, but must never become one of them.

  • Brooke and the maids bathed and dressed Gawain, and he told Brooke he no longer needed her to prepare bubble helmets for him.
  • Brooke and the maids left Gawain alone, then talked about their good fortune to serve him while Brooke worried about how other head maids would judge her.
  • Gawain called the Five Elders, who praised his awakened Conqueror's Haki and told him to train his body and Haki.
  • The Sword-Wielding Elder granted Gawain the right to leave Mary Geoise freely and said he could challenge the Elders when he became strong enough.
  • The Sword-Wielding Elder told Gawain he could use pirates, Marines, and the Revolutionary Army, but could never become one of them.
  • After the call ended, Gawain smiled at the Den Den Mushi, which silently thought of its Super Den Den Mushi cousin.

Ch. 13Mounts?!!

Gawain met his newly assigned guards and learned he had inherited the Gawain Family, a single-heir Celestial Dragon line. When Winslet presented enslaved people as mounts, Gawain rejected them and set out for Donquixote Mjosgard’s residence.

  • Gawain left his bedroom and asked a maid where Donquixote Mjosgard lived; she led him to the guards waiting outside his residence.
  • Winslet introduced himself as captain of Gawain’s personal guard and explained that the Five Elders had raised Gawain’s authority and made him head of the Gawain Family.
  • Winslet told Gawain that the family had always had a single heir, with each head inheriting the name Gawain, and offered to take him to Mjosgard.
  • Winslet presented a group of enslaved people as mounts, including Mormore, former captain of the Mosaic Pirates, but Gawain ordered Winslet to dismiss them and guard the castle gate.
  • A maid reassured the kneeling Winslet that Gawain had not removed him as chief guard and explained that Gawain disliked riding people.

Ch. 14Shalria

Gawain went to Mjosgard’s residence to ask whether he had brought the injured Merfolk home, but Shalria arrived and revealed her obsessive admiration for Gawain. After learning that Gawain himself had beaten Charlos, Shalria blamed her brother and set off to punish him.

  • Gawain reached Mjosgard’s castle and asked the guards whether Mjosgard had brought the poor Merfolk home.
  • A guard doubted Gawain’s identity and drew his sword, but Gawain persuaded him to verify it with Mjosgard.
  • Shalria hurried out, stopped her guards from attacking Gawain’s guards, and professed her devotion to Gawain.
  • Gawain told Shalria that he had beaten Charlos himself, not Mjosgard.
  • Shalria declared that Charlos must have deserved it and left to punish him and make him apologize to Gawain.

Ch. 15Mjosgard's Secret

Shalria beat Charlos for provoking Gawain, then Gawain joined Saint Mjosgard to see the Merfolk he had secretly sheltered. Mjosgard revealed his secret and introduced Gawain as an ally, leaving the frightened Merfolk unsure whether to trust him.

  • Shalria learned that Charlos had kicked Gawain, aimed a gun at him, and taken his slave and servant, then beat Charlos and shouted that he must apologize.
  • Gawain entered Mjosgard's castle, and Mjosgard invited him to accompany him to the Ryugu Kingdom and return the dead Merfolk's body.
  • Mjosgard opened a hidden room containing dozens of Merfolk he had secretly protected and explained that he had spent his Heavenly Tribute rescuing them since Queen Otohime's death.
  • Mjosgard introduced Gawain to the Merfolk as a friend who shared his ideals, but the Merfolk huddled together in fear and questioned whether they could trust him.
  • Tris worried that Gawain had overheard her doubts, and Gawain confirmed that he had heard the Merfolk whispering.

Ch. 16Request

Gawain learned how Mjosgard had spent years rescuing Merfolk in Mary Geoise and promised to help him change Celestial Dragons’ attitudes toward them. Mjosgard then asked Gawain to protect him and the Merfolk as they returned a corpse to the Ryugu Kingdom, offering his future Heavenly Tribute shares in exchange.

  • Mjosgard explained that he had spent nearly all his Heavenly Tribute over five years buying Merfolk from other Celestial Dragons, but could not stop every source of Merfolk entering Mary Geoise.
  • Gawain proposed using public opinion to make Celestial Dragons lose interest in Merfolk, but Mjosgard refused to harm Queen Otohime’s people through slander.
  • Mjosgard knelt before Gawain and offered his share of the Donquixote Family’s treasures, asking him to create a trend that could protect the Fish-Men.
  • Gawain promised to do his best, then reminded Mjosgard that they needed to get the Merfolk out of Mary Geoise while returning the corpse to the Ryugu Kingdom.
  • Mjosgard asked Gawain to use his ability to protect the Merfolk from other Celestial Dragons and offered his future Heavenly Tribute shares in return.

Ch. 17Merfolk Set Out

Gawain agreed to escort Mjosgard and forty-six merfolk back to Fish-Man Island, while Mjosgard insisted that Gawain accept his future Heavenly Tribute shares. After the merfolk prepared to leave, they emerged from Mjosgard Castle, attracting the attention of nearby Celestial Dragons.

  • Gawain promised to take the merfolk safely home and told them to prepare Lan Ling's body and their belongings.
  • Mjosgard begged Gawain to accept all his future Heavenly Tribute shares, and Gawain agreed to take the money.
  • Mjosgard told the merfolk to gather the gifts he had given them and get ready to depart with Gawain.
  • Gawain instructed his guards to prepare for the journey and sent others to tell Brooke he was setting sail.
  • After about fifty minutes, Tris told Gawain the group was ready, and Gawain said they would leave through the main route rather than the Donquixote Family's side gate.
  • Forty-six merfolk emerged from Mjosgard Castle, and nearby Celestial Dragons began howling at the sight of them.

Ch. 18Friend or Foe Alike...

Gawain and Mjosgard guided the merfolk through Mary Geoise and explained the city as they headed for its East Gate. When Celestial Dragons tried to stop them and threatened the merfolk, Gawain unleashed Conqueror’s Haki, knocking out everyone nearby—including his own companions.

  • At Charlos’s house, servants heard the commotion inside and left without telling him that merfolk had arrived in Mary Geoise.
  • Gawain suggested that Mjosgard show the merfolk around, and Mjosgard described Mary Geoise as they walked toward the East Gate.
  • Tris asked where Gawain’s family lived, and Mjosgard pointed west while explaining the city’s gates and landmarks.
  • Celestial Dragons Alrewyn and Truigada confronted the group, and Truigada aimed his pistol at Tris while calling for the merfolk to be killed.
  • Gawain released Conqueror’s Haki, knocking down the crowd and unintentionally rendering Mjosgard and the merfolk unconscious as well.

Ch. 19The Gates of Mary Geoise

After using his Conqueror’s Haki to subdue the blocking group, Gawain gathered the surviving guards and Merfolk and reached Mary Geoise’s East Gate with Mjosgard. He left Brooke behind to oversee his family, then led everyone through the gates, where the Merfolk tearfully saw the ocean again.

  • Gawain ordered the fifteen guards still standing to carry Mjosgard and the Merfolk to the East Gate, and the seven guards from the blocking group agreed to follow him.
  • Brooke met Gawain at the gate with a white officer-style outfit, helped him put it on, and was delighted by his praise.
  • Mjosgard ordered the gates opened, and Gawain told Brooke to oversee the Gawain Family while he was away.
  • Gawain warned the seven guards that Alrewyn and Truigada might punish them for helping him, then led all fifteen guards beyond Mary Geoise.
  • Brooke assigned the Merfolk to help care for Gawain and gave them extra clothes to carry.
  • The Merfolk followed Gawain through the gates and cried when they saw the ocean again.

Ch. 20Target: Marine Headquarters

Gawain and Mjosgard descended from Mary Geoise toward Sabaody, where Gawain explained why he needed to recruit help beyond the Celestial Dragons’ guards. He decided to seek subordinates and mentors at Marine Headquarters, leaving Mjosgard to arrange the coating.

  • Gawain and Mjosgard reached Airport No. 1, where attendants replaced the Merfolk’s mobility bubbles for the descent to Sabaody.
  • Mjosgard praised Queen Otohime and mourned her murder, while Gawain proposed investigating her death during a visit to the Ryugu Kingdom.
  • Gawain told Mjosgard he would go to the Navy to recruit helpers instead of waiting for the coating, which would take at least three days.
  • Gawain explained that the guards served all Celestial Dragons and might not support him in a conflict with their other kin.
  • Gawain asked whether the guards would discipline him during training, then concluded that he needed companions and mentors from outside Mary Geoise and chose Marine Headquarters as his starting point.
