Ch. 487Stop the War

After Kaido’s death, the Whitebeard and Big Mom Pirates fought over his former territories while Blackbeard Teach rose to prominence. Shanks intervened to stop the war, claimed the remaining unoccupied islands, and warned both sides not to challenge him.

  • Whitebeard’s Grand Fleet moved to claim Kaido’s territories, and the Big Mom Pirates joined the conflict over the islands’ specialty foods.
  • Blackbeard Teach gained fame by fighting Cracker to a draw and facing Katakuri without fear, prompting Shanks to enter the war.
  • Shanks sailed the Red Force toward the battlefield and used Divine Departure to tear apart the darkness Blackbeard had raised over it.
  • Marco greeted Shanks and reminded Teach that they had once been Roger’s and Whitebeard’s young crew members alongside a red-nosed boy whom Teach could no longer name.
  • Shanks landed among the fighters, claimed the remaining unoccupied islands, and threatened to join forces with the other Emperors against anyone who refused.

Ch. 488New World!

Gawain announced the Dark Bird Pacifist Alliance and sent its forces out from Sabaody while the Marines and Five Elders watched his rise. He then opened the passage to another world, transferred into a body made from his finger, and stepped through with Kaido’s power.

  • Gawain declared that the nations of the Grand Line would join the Dark Bird Pacifist Alliance and ordered the fleet to depart.
  • Rayleigh praised Gawain’s cause, embraced him, and prepared to take his household away from the coming battles around Sabaody.
  • Steel Bone Kong recalled Gawain’s defiance of Saint Charlos and admired how quickly he had built power.
  • The Five Elders watched the Alliance set out and discussed Gawain’s future as an Emperor under Lady Imu’s plan.
  • Gawain opened the portal in Xianyang Palace, created a new body from his finger, and Kaido’s soul entered it.
  • Gawain adapted to Kaido’s power and stepped through the gate, where his body turned into clay as he sped into the passage.

Ch. 489Jigen, Kaguya, Gawain

Jigen sought refuge in a village while plotting to reclaim the Divine Tree fruit from Kaguya, but a horned stranger crashed onto the planet. The newcomer, Gawain, emerged from the wreckage and encountered Jigen, who grew suspicious of his identity.

  • Jigen recalled how Kaguya ambushed him, ate the Divine Tree fruit, and left him weakened, so he decided to hide in an isolated village while recovering.
  • Jigen saw a horned humanoid fall from the sky and hurried toward the crash site, hoping the stranger could help him confront Kaguya.
  • Gawain regained consciousness after Kaido's screams stopped, crashed into the mountains, and climbed out of the impact crater.
  • Gawain made wooden weapons, concealed his horns, and used Observation Haki to seek out people who could explain the world.
  • Jigen emerged from a black hole and questioned Gawain about his Karma and his chaotic landing.
  • Gawain tried to appear friendly, but Jigen became suspicious and demanded to know who he was and where he came from.

Ch. 490Parting Ways at First Sight

Gawain fought Jigen, revealed that he knew Jigen was Isshiki Ōtsutsuki, and drove him to flee through a portal. After locating Isshiki from afar, Gawain planned to seek out Kaguya and pursue the Chakra Fruit’s immortality.

  • Gawain identified Jigen as Isshiki Ōtsutsuki, stunning him with the revelation.
  • Gawain ambushed Isshiki with a series of powerful attacks, forcing him to activate Karma and fight back with black rods.
  • Gawain’s wooden club was cut in two, so he drew his wooden sword and slashed Isshiki apart, though Isshiki quickly healed.
  • Isshiki opened a portal and escaped, while Gawain stayed behind and used Observation Haki to locate him in a village more than 130 kilometers away.
  • Gawain decided to find Kaguya, determine her circumstances, and pursue the Chakra Fruit as a path to immortality.

Ch. 491Kaguya

Gawain used a prolonged search-and-taunt performance to keep Jigen near the village, then headed for the Land of Ancestors to find Kaguya and enlist her help against Isshiki Ōtsutsuki. Kaguya wrestled with her fear of the Otsutsuki Clan’s retaliation until a strange aura appeared and the daimyo’s household spotted a dragon.

  • Gawain spent fourteen hours searching the mountains in Azure Dragon form, then drank and shouted insults until Jigen left his hiding place and disguised himself as a monk.
  • Gawain settled in the Land of Wells while waiting for Kaido’s soul to awaken, then learned about the distant Land of Ancestors and set out to find Kaguya.
  • Kami recalled Kaguya’s arrival and occupation of his bedroom as he pondered his dreams about the goddess.
  • Kaguya considered her betrayal of Isshiki, her desire for freedom, and the threat her clan posed now that she had eaten the Chakra Fruit.
  • A peculiar aura startled Kaguya, while Kami’s subordinates shouted that a dragon had appeared.

Ch. 492Yin–Yang Release and Spiritual Power

Gawain confronted Kaguya with news that Isshiki Ōtsutsuki was alive, then provoked her into revealing her hatred of him and the Ōtsutsuki main family. Kaguya transported Gawain and the others to her own world, leaving Gawain hoping he could survive her anger and become her ally.

  • The Son of Heaven agreed to mobilize the Land of Ancestors to find the man who had fought Gawain, after Gawain described Isshiki Ōtsutsuki.
  • Kaguya recognized Isshiki’s name and demanded that Gawain confirm who he was and what had happened.
  • Gawain attacked Kaguya with a spiritual-power-coated Chop Wave, and she dodged after realizing his attack could harm her.
  • Kaguya admitted that she could not coexist with Isshiki, and Gawain inferred that she was the Kaguya he had sought to identify.
  • Gawain repeated Isshiki’s insult about Kaguya being a branch-family wench, enraging her until she used Amenominaka to transport him and the courtyard into her world.

Ch. 493Kaguya-hime's Thoughts

Gawain fought Kaguya in Amenominaka, weathered her powerful attacks, and calmed her anger by apologizing. As they agreed to leave her world and talk elsewhere, Kaguya refused to revive the people who had been transferred there and killed.

  • Kaguya attacked Gawain with All-Killing Ash Bones, and Gawain countered with his sword and Raimei Hakke.
  • Gawain exploited Kaguya's lack of combat experience, dodged her Expansive Truth-Seeking Ball, and struck her while she emerged through Yomotsu Hirasaka.
  • Kaguya transformed into a Tailed Beast, and she and Gawain fought as giant creatures for more than twenty minutes before returning to their human forms.
  • Gawain apologized for taking his anger at Isshiki out on Kaguya, and her anger faded as she became pleased by his apology.
  • Gawain proposed leaving Amenominaka to talk elsewhere, and Kaguya said she would not revive the people who had died in its Super Gravity Dimension.

Ch. 494Hello, Little Isshiki~

Gawain told Kaguya how he had fought Isshiki and agreed to lead her to the weakened Ōtsutsuki. They found Isshiki hiding in a village near the Land of Wells, where he was disguised as a monk and doctor named Gentarō.

  • Kaguya returned the land and buildings taken by Amenominaka, and Gawain saved several families from the falling debris.
  • Gawain recounted meeting Isshiki, fighting him, and watching him escape through a black doorway.
  • Kaguya demanded that Gawain take her to Isshiki, then asked him to do so after he pressed her for a gift or a polite request.
  • Gawain revealed Isshiki's location near the Land of Wells and brought Kaguya there.
  • Jigen, disguised as the monk and doctor Gentarō, treated villagers at his clinic while searching for potential Karma vessels.
  • Gawain and Kaguya entered Jigen's room as the next patients.

Ch. 495Kaido Awakens

Gawain watched Kaguya battle Isshiki in her Amenominaka dimension, then discovered Kaido had awakened in his mind and was being tormented by chains. Kaido urged Gawain to learn this world's path to strength before their limited time ran out, while Kaguya's battle continued.

  • Kaguya transported Gawain and Isshiki to a magma dimension with Amenominaka, cutting off Isshiki's escape portal.
  • Kaguain accepted Kaguya's request to stay out of her fight with Isshiki and watched as they battled.
  • Kaido's voice reached Gawain, who entered his mental space and found him bound and tormented by chains.
  • Gawain slowed the chains and projected the magma battlefield into Kaido's void, letting Kaido glimpse Kaguya and Isshiki fighting.
  • Kaido told Gawain he had been unconscious for seventeen days and warned that they might have only seventeen more days before he died for good.
  • Kaido urged Gawain to learn this world's path to greater strength, then closed his eyes to conserve his strength against the chains.

Ch. 496The Chakra Fruit That Could Not Be Obtained

While Gawain remained unconscious aboard the Dark Bird Ship, Gion, Hancock, and Mihawk kept watch as the Grand Line grew increasingly chaotic. In the future Shinobi World, Gawain asked Kaguya to help him obtain another Chakra Fruit, but she said she could not currently plant a second Divine Tree.

  • Gion and Hancock worried over Gawain's half-month unconsciousness, and Hancock fell asleep beside him while Gion cared for him.
  • Mihawk used his Observation Haki to discover Gawain's condition and quietly took responsibility for defending the Dark Bird Ship amid growing unrest.
  • Kaguya defeated Isshiki after two days of fighting, and Gawain congratulated her over a meal of scrambled eggs.
  • Gawain asked Kaguya for a gift he could not obtain himself, then explained that he wanted to know how to grow a Divine Tree rather than take her Chakra Fruit.
  • Kaguya withdrew her All-Killing Ash Bones after Gawain clarified his request, but said she could not plant another Divine Tree and offered to explain why.

Ch. 497Chakra Training Course

After Divine Tree fruit proved impossible to obtain, Gawain asked Kaguya to teach him chakra so he could gain another form of power. They traveled to the Land of Fire, where Kaguya’s first lessons went badly and Gawain demanded that she explain the fundamentals instead of relying on instinct.

  • Kaguya explained that planting another Divine Tree would take thousands of years and that neither she nor Isshiki could activate it.
  • Gawain asked Kaguya to teach him how to use chakra, and she agreed despite having little experience teaching.
  • Gawain carried Kaguya to the Land of Fire, where they occupied the daimyo residence and began training in the back mountains.
  • Kaguya tried to teach techniques by telling Gawain to copy her gestures, but he could not perform them.
  • Gawain scolded Kaguya for failing to explain chakra circulation and energy extraction, then asked her to demonstrate how chakra moved through her body.

Ch. 498They Will Take the Gao Surname!

Gawain taught Kaguya to control chakra, then gained chakra of his own when she shared hers with him. Their chakra mingled and produced two sons, whom Kaguya named Hagoromo and Hamura, while Gawain insisted they take his surname.

  • Gawain spent four days teaching Kaguya chakra control, but her Great Fireball Technique evaporated the lake.
  • Gawain demonstrated his precise control by restoring the lake as an Azure Dragon and plucking a flower without damaging it.
  • Kaguya shared her chakra with Gawain, and his power transformed into chakra and reached Six Paths level.
  • Kaguya's body absorbed Gawain's chakra, then expelled two baby boys, whom Gawain and Kaguya recognized as their sons.
  • Kaguya proposed the names Hagoromo and Hamura, and Gawain declared that their surname would be Gawain.

Ch. 499Hagoromo and Hamura Learn Something New

Gawain and Kaguya raised their rapidly growing sons, Hagoromo and Hamura, while studying chakra and preparing to face the Ōtsutsuki Main Family. The chapter left the boys discovering their parents sparring in the back mountain and misreading the sight of Kaguya sitting atop Gawain.

  • Gawain persuaded Kaguya to give the boys the Gao surname and agreed they should inherit the planet.
  • Hagoromo and Hamura rapidly grew to three or four years old as Gawain and Kaguya fed them chakra.
  • Gawain shared his chakra research with Kaguya and demonstrated how his black aura strengthened a vine made from Water and Earth attributes.
  • Gawain and Kaguya discussed teaching each other their techniques, then took Hagoromo and Hamura back from the servants after the boys asked why their lake had no fish.
  • Hagoromo and Hamura secretly followed their parents to the back mountain and saw Gawain and Kaguya sparring, with Kaguya sitting atop Gawain at the end.

Ch. 500The Grand Plan

Gawain persuaded Kaguya to spread chakra across the world, train Hagoromo and Hamura, and use the Divine Tree to gather humanity’s chakra and knowledge while preparing to confront Kaguya’s main family. After a succession of Daimyos died and neighboring countries probed the Land of Fire, Gawain took the Daimyo’s authority, but he was running out of time.

  • Hagoromo covered Hamura’s mouth and told the servants their parents had been developing a chakra technique after Hamura revealed they had seen Kaguya and Gawain wrestling.
  • Kaguya proposed training Hagoromo and Hamura and using the Divine Tree to turn more people into puppets, but Gawain argued for sharing chakra with humanity instead.
  • Kaguya agreed to spread chakra across the planet and plant the Divine Tree again, while Gawain planned to train the princes, rule the Land of Fire, and make the Divine Tree a worldwide faith.
  • Gawain and Kaguya began removing the Land of Fire’s Daimyos, and the succession of sudden deaths left the next heir too frightened to take the throne.
  • Neighboring countries probed the Land of Fire, so Gawain displayed his dragon form and Conqueror’s Haki; the people then accepted him as Daimyo, though he was running out of time.

Ch. 501Leaving the Shinobi World

Gawain prepared to leave the shinobi world because Kaido was nearing his limit, setting aside his plan to unify the world and open a path between worlds. Kaguya asked to go with him, but Gawain refused because he could not bring anyone along, then departed after two days without finding the toad.

  • Gawain told Kaido he would leave within two days, and Kaido agreed to endure the torment a little longer.
  • Gawain wrote letters for Hagoromo and Hamura, then told Kaguya he planned to return to his homeland and promised to come back.
  • Kaguya admitted she did not want Gawain to leave and proposed that she and their sons accompany him to his homeland.
  • Gawain told Kaguya he could not take anyone with him and promised to return as soon as possible.
  • Two days later, Gawain left the world after failing to find the toad, while Hagoromo and Hamura wept as he vanished.

Ch. 502You'll Beg Me

Gawain returned from the New World with the ability to use Chakra, but learned that he could not revisit the same world until its fate was mastered, jeopardizing his promise to Kaguya. Back in the pirate world, he reunited with Hancock and Gion, spoke with Mihawk, and claimed Mihawk would soon beg him because of his month-long slumber.

  • Gawain returned to Xianyang Palace, demonstrated that he could use Chakra to create a Rasengan, and learned from Kaido that the New World gate could not be reopened until its fate was mastered.
  • Gawain realized he might not return to Kaguya and their children for a long time, or might never see that version of the ninja world again, but chose to focus on the present and teach Kaido Chakra.
  • Gawain woke near the Sabaody Archipelago and reunited with Gion and Hancock before leaving them to recover from his and Gion's intimacy.
  • Gawain met Mihawk atop the Dark Bird Ship, exchanged flasks, and discussed their hopes for the future of the sea and Shanks.
  • Mihawk urged Gawain to cure the condition that left him unconscious for a month, but Gawain called it fate's favor and predicted Mihawk would soon beg him.

Ch. 503Chakra Is Burning!

Gawain awakened Mihawk’s chakra, giving the world’s greatest swordsman a new source of strength and a path to further growth. Inspired by the young people training nearby, Mihawk urged Gawain to spread chakra widely, then set off to master it and test his increased power against Shanks.

  • Gawain assured Mihawk that chakra was a new power drawn from the body and awakened its seed in him.
  • Mihawk felt chakra strengthen his body by more than ten percent and realized it could make him stronger as a swordsman.
  • Mihawk encouraged Gawain to teach chakra to the ship’s children and spread it across the seas so future generations could become powerful opponents.
  • Mihawk praised Gawain as a great pioneer, accepted him as his Mentor, and left to train with his sword before seeking out Shanks.
  • Gawain watched Mihawk go and turned his attention to the younger generation training nearby.

Ch. 504Yoriichi Tsugikuni

Gawain encountered Yoriichi Tsugikuni, a former Demon Slayer who mistook him for a dangerous outsider that had fallen from the sky. After seeing Yoriichi's extraordinary sword speed, Gawain decided to learn from him and take him to Xianyang Palace.

  • Gawain left a town and met a swordsman who recognized the crater left by his arrival three days earlier.
  • The swordsman identified himself as Yoriichi Tsugikuni and explained that he had been expelled from the Demon Slayer Corps but still pursued its mission.
  • Yoriichi attacked Gawain with Sun Breathing, Thirteenth Form: Reincarnation, striking 2,372 times in less than a second.
  • Gawain used Armament Haki to withstand Yoriichi's sword and recognized him as the legendary swordsman who had nearly defeated Muzan Kibutsuji.
  • Gawain told Yoriichi he would overlook the attack and invited him to talk, intent on learning his swordsmanship and bringing him to Xianyang Palace.

Ch. 505Be My Subordinate!

Gawain challenged Yoriichi Tsugikuni to test his strength, then offered him a place as his subordinate. After Yoriichi exhausted himself trying and failing to break Gawain’s defense, Gawain revealed his dragon form and proposed to eliminate the demons in exchange for Yoriichi leaving the human realm to serve him.

  • Gawain invited Yoriichi Tsugikuni to accept his offer or attack him, while Kaido eagerly urged Gawain to recruit and mentor him.
  • Yoriichi Tsugikuni recalled how he had once nearly killed Muzan Kibutsuji, forcing the demon into hiding, and recognized that Gawain was an unknown threat.
  • Yoriichi attacked Gawain relentlessly for sixteen minutes, but could not pierce his defense and collapsed from exhaustion.
  • Gawain cleaned Yoriichi up, told him he needed discipline, and suggested that gods might exist alongside demons.
  • Gawain transformed into a dragon before Yoriichi and the watching samurai and commoners, then offered to purge the demons if Yoriichi would become his subordinate afterward.

Ch. 506Yoriichi's Thoughts

Gawain brought the badly injured Yoriichi to a city for treatment, then explained his identity and asked him to become a subordinate. Yoriichi accepted, but his guilt over the deaths and betrayals connected to his past continued to define him.

  • Gawain carried Yoriichi to a city, paid for a courtyard and medical care, and rested while doctors treated him.
  • Two days later, Yoriichi thanked Gawain, asked who he was and why he had not stopped Muzan Kibutsuji sooner, and struggled to explain his regrets.
  • Gawain told Yoriichi that he came from another world, was a dragon named Gawain, and was not a god.
  • Gawain asked Yoriichi to become his subordinate, and Yoriichi accepted while questioning why Gawain had chosen him.
  • Yoriichi’s past weighed on him as he blamed himself for the marked Demon Slayer Corps members’ deaths, Michikatsu Tsugikuni’s betrayal as Kokushibo, the old master’s death, Tamayo’s escape, and Muzan Kibutsuji’s survival.
