Ch. 81Home

Gawain explained his plan to reduce demand for Merfolk slaves by making Impel Down prisoners into limited-edition slaves, controlling slave sellers, and opening Fish-Man Island to the world. After securing Jinbe and Gion's support, he left to meet the Five Elders.

  • Gawain promised the three Celestial Dragons he would arrange super-criminals from Impel Down as limited-edition slaves.
  • Gawain told Shirahoshi and Jinbe that he planned to reduce Merfolk's rarity by introducing prisoners as new slave merchandise, controlling sellers, and opening Fish-Man Island.
  • Gawain returned to his castle, asked Brooke to stop making the maids greet him formally, and introduced her to Gion, Jinbe, and Shirahoshi.
  • Gawain asked Jinbe to spread his plan among the Merfolk, and Shirahoshi suggested that only heinous criminals should become slaves.
  • Gion and Jinbe accepted Gawain's plan, and he said that the trade would protect rare races and help fund the Sea Train before leaving to meet the Five Elders.

Ch. 82A Second Conversation

Gawain met with the Five Elders to seek control of the Shichibukai, arguing that he could reshape them into a third path for young people going to sea. The elders agreed not to interfere or assist, and Gawain left with their warning to investigate Kuma’s unusual background.

  • The Five Elders welcomed Gawain and joked about his decisiveness and Lady Imu’s favorable impression of him.
  • Gawain told the Five Elders he wanted to take control of the Shichibukai, and Elder of Military agreed as long as Gawain relied on his own strength.
  • Gawain asked about Tyrant Kuma’s connection to Vegapunk, and the elders said Vegapunk already had Kuma’s physical data while warning that Kuma’s background was unusual.
  • Gawain explained that he saw the Shichibukai as a way to offer young people going to sea an alternative to becoming Marines or pirates.

Ch. 83Gawain: I'm Under Enormous Pressure

Gawain secured the Five Elders’ approval to oversee the Shichibukai, operate in the Grand Line, and restart the Sea Train project, though they would provide no funding. He left with permission to pursue his plans as long as unrest stayed limited and his collaborators proved trustworthy.

  • The Elder of Diplomacy agreed to let Gawain oversee the Shichibukai and said Kuma would be sent to meet him.
  • Gawain requested Eternal Poses so his subordinates could operate in the Grand Line, and the Five Elders granted him freedom to act there as long as no more than thirty percent of its countries and islands rebelled at once.
  • Gawain revealed his plan to restart the Sea Train project and connect the islands he visited with rails and trains.
  • The Elder of Military explained that Den, Tom’s younger brother, had hidden aboard Gawain’s ship and nearly been mistaken for an infiltrator.
  • The Elder of Military allowed Gawain to use the Sea Train blueprints if he trusted his collaborators, but refused to provide funding.

Ch. 84Don't Come Again Next Time

Gawain discussed the Celestial Dragons’ spending and the World Government’s economic system with the Five Elders, then left after hearing their warning about changing the world too quickly. The Elder of Diplomacy teased him about his mermaid fiancée and told him to bring her along next time.

  • The Elder of Economy explained how Celestial Dragons’ lavish spending supported the world economy and the World Government’s long-term plunder.
  • Gawain reflected on the world’s unified currency and measures, and resolved to standardize transportation, abolish slavery, and advance the world.
  • The Five Elders asked whether Gawain had any further requests, then dismissed him after the Elder of Military urged him to value stability and handle his ambitions carefully.
  • The Elder of Diplomacy stopped Gawain to express concern about his engagement to the Mermaid Princess and advised him to enjoy his youth.
  • Gawain said he felt lucky rather than sacrificial, and the Elder of Diplomacy told him not to return unless he brought his fiancée.

Ch. 85Alabasta Roasted Scorpion

Shirahoshi enjoyed the giant sofa and the maids’ attention at the Gawain Family Estate, while Gion and Jinbe made requests of the new head maid, Brooke. Brooke went to prepare their food and drinks as Gawain remained away at his meeting with the Five Elders.

  • The maids brought Shirahoshi a giant sofa, and she chose to sit on it rather than go outside when they offered to care for her scales.
  • Brooke introduced herself to Gion and Jinbe as the new head maid and told them to make requests under Gawain’s household rules.
  • Jinbe requested roasted scorpion, and Brooke identified it as Alabasta Roasted Scorpion and said she would arrange a serving.
  • Gion persuaded Brooke to relax around Gawain and requested Ryugu Kingdom Blue Algae Tea, chazuke ingredients, strong liquor, and Trick Cups.
  • Brooke hurried off with several maids to prepare the requests, while Jinbe anxiously reminded her not to forget his roasted scorpion.

Ch. 86When the Time Is Right, Heaven and Earth Work Together

Gawain returned to his estate, where Shirahoshi painted her scales and Brooke drank herself into a stumble. He reassured Jinbe that the Fish-Men's relocation could proceed under his authority, then prepared to set out and put his plans into motion.

  • Gawain found Shirahoshi having her scales painted by the maids and teased her about her unfinished rabbit design.
  • Brooke became drunk after three cups, fell into a serving cart, and was sent to rest after Gawain assured her he was not angry.
  • Gawain told Jinbe he had not sought the Five Elders' written approval for relocating Fish-Men and had already marked out territory for them.
  • Gawain revealed that the Five Elders had granted him authority over the Shichibukai, the Grand Line, large-scale wealth gathering, and restarting the Sea Train project.
  • Gawain won three consecutive rolls of three sixes against Gion and said it was time to begin acting on his plans.
  • Gawain, Gion, and Jinbe ate and drank before preparing to set out.

Ch. 87Dragging Everyone Down

Gawain left Sabaody for Enies Lobby with Shirahoshi and Gion, while Doberman headed to the New World under Onigumo’s watch. After Shirahoshi’s bubble burst aboard the ship, Den offered to devise a replacement so the merfolk could move on land.

  • Gawain teased Shirahoshi about spending her time beautifying her tail instead of exploring his home.
  • Onigumo arrived to replace Doberman in Sabaody, and Doberman admitted he was being sent to the New World after violating Marine discipline.
  • Gion told Doberman and Onigumo that she was enjoying life with Gawain and sent greetings to Tsuru and Garp.
  • Gawain ordered the ship to sail for Enies Lobby, where he planned to ride the Sea Train, meet Iceburg, and commission a ship before going to Amazon Lily.
  • Shirahoshi’s bubble burst as the ship left Sabaody, and Den offered to develop a hot-air-balloon-based substitute for the bubbles.
  • Gawain reassured Shirahoshi and promised to prepare a water-filled private carriage for her at Enies Lobby.

Ch. 88City of Never-Night

Gawain's party approached Enies Lobby, where Spandam prepared to welcome the visiting Celestial Dragon and dreamed of using his Pluton clues to advance. Shirahoshi learned that Enies Lobby was the City of Never-Night, and Spandam was stunned when he saw her at the dock.

  • Spandam opened the Gates of Justice after berating Baskerville for delaying the preparations for Gawain's arrival.
  • Gawain trained under Gion aboard the ship, while Gion explained to Shirahoshi that Enies Lobby stayed in perpetual daylight.
  • Gawain ended training as the ship neared Enies Lobby and told Jinbe to bring Scholar Den so he could switch to the Sea Train.
  • Shirahoshi swam up beside Gawain as the ship reached the dock, astonishing Spandam with her size and beauty.

Ch. 89What Flattery to Superiors Means

Gawain arrived at Enies Lobby, where Spandam and Baskerville competed to serve him as he prepared to travel to Front Island. Spandam arranged transport for Shirahoshi, and the group set off for the station.

  • Spandam prostrated himself to welcome Gawain and said the Sea Train was waiting at Front Island.
  • Gawain ordered Spandam to prepare a dedicated carriage, while Shirahoshi mistook the three-headed Chief Justice for three impoverished men.
  • Baskerville offered Gawain supplies and invited him to watch executions, but Gawain declined and asked to go straight to Front Island.
  • Spandam arranged flatbed carts to carry Shirahoshi, who thanked him and climbed aboard.
  • Spandam offered to serve as Gawain's mount, but Gion rebuked him, and Gawain ordered the group to the Front Island station.

Ch. 90Handling

Gawain and his entourage boarded the Puffing Tom at Enies Lobby, where Spandam tried to earn Gawain’s favor with a lead about Pluton’s blueprints. Gawain dismissed Spandam’s claim as outdated but gave him a chance to prove himself in Water 7 by bringing Rob Lucci and the others to meet him.

  • Gawain’s group arrived at Front Island Station, where soldiers finished preparing a special carriage for Shirahoshi.
  • Spandam privately told Gawain that he had learned of Gawain’s Conqueror’s Haki and offered a clue about Pluton’s blueprints.
  • Gawain revealed that Den was Tom the Fish-Man’s younger brother, making Spandam realize his Pluton lead was already known to Gawain.
  • Gawain told Spandam to bring Rob Lucci and the others to meet him in Water 7, then departed aboard the Puffing Tom.
  • Gion suggested Spandam could help Gawain control a faction within CP, but Gawain said he was ambitious rather than truly loyal and named Rob Lucci as a better prospect.

Ch. 91Professional Team

Gion described Rob Lucci’s infamous past as Gawain considered bringing him onto the team, while Jinbe discovered a huge treasure shipment in the train’s rear carriages. Gawain’s group planned to rest before handling their affairs in Water 7 and then heading for Amazon Lily.

  • Gion told Gawain and Jinbe how thirteen-year-old Rob Lucci silently killed five hundred royal guards and the pirates holding them, earning his fearsome reputation before joining CP9.
  • Gawain said he would make Lucci follow his style and sent Jinbe to inspect the special gift prepared by the Chief Justice.
  • Gawain sat beside Shirahoshi and Gion, and Gion explained how Seimei Kikan could eventually let him control his body and height.
  • Jinbe reported that two carriages were packed with treasure worth at least a billion.
  • Gawain told everyone to rest, then prepare to settle their affairs in Water 7 before changing course for Amazon Lily by noon the next day.

Ch. 92The Hatred of Rob Lucci

Rob Lucci learned that Spandam had canceled his two-year undercover mission and ordered him to protect Saint Gawain, leaving the tavern furious and heading to meet the Celestial Dragon. Meanwhile, Gawain’s Sea Train approached Water 7, where Jinbe spotted the drawing Gawain had been working on.

  • Spandam canceled the undercover operation and ordered Rob Lucci’s team to meet and protect Saint Gawain at Water 7’s station.
  • Rob Lucci recalled how Spandam had kept him undercover for two years, preventing him from training and pursuing the Pluton blueprints.
  • Rob Lucci demolished Blueno’s Minotaur Tavern in anger, then left with Kaku and Blueno to gather the team and prepare for Saint Gawain’s arrival.
  • Aboard the Sea Train, Gawain drew on a newspaper while Gion watched the sea, Jinbe exercised, Scholar Den wrote, and Shirahoshi slept.
  • Jinbe told Gawain that Water 7 was in sight and the train would reach the station in about fifteen minutes, then noticed Gawain’s drawing.

Ch. 93Miracle Fountain

Gawain arrived at Water 7 with Shirahoshi, who marveled at the enormous fountain. At the Water Station, CP9 revealed its agents embedded throughout the city, and Gawain ordered Rob Lucci to inventory valuables from the train.

  • Gion and Jinbe recognized the bird on Gawain’s flag sketch as resembling Marco’s phoenix form, so Gawain put the sketch away and said he would have it altered.
  • Gawain woke Shirahoshi and showed her Water 7’s giant fountain, which she excitedly admired and thanked him for seeing.
  • The train stopped at Water 7’s Water Station, where Kalifa took control of security and ordered Galley-La’s executives to retreat.
  • Kaku, Lucci, Kalifa, and the other disguised CP9 agents revealed themselves, leaving Iceburg to fear they had discovered Franky’s whereabouts.
  • Lucci greeted Saint Gawain, who ordered him to inventory and store the valuables in the train’s last two carriages.

Ch. 94Choice

Gawain took control of the treasure and CP9 agents at Water 7, then confronted Iceburg about his hatred, Tom’s death, and the Pluton blueprints. He revealed that Spandam had arranged both Iceburg’s danger and Lucci’s undercover mission, and left Iceburg to choose whether to seek his support.

  • Jinbe and Gion brought treasure to Gawain, while Kalifa and the other CP9 agents began handling it.
  • Gawain spoke with Shirahoshi, formally took Lucci into his service, and ordered CP9 to release Iceburg and let the other Water 7 assistants go.
  • Gawain told Lucci to work pragmatically, then asked Iceburg whether he hated him because the World Government had killed Tom.
  • Gawain revealed that Franky, also known as Cutty Flam, had the Pluton blueprints, and reprimanded Lucci for failing to uncover the information during his undercover mission.
  • Iceburg and Lucci identified Spandam as the man behind Tom’s death and Lucci’s assignment to Water 7.
  • Gawain explained that Spandam had offered him information about the blueprints in exchange for joining his ranks, then asked Iceburg what he wanted.

Ch. 96Iceburg

Gawain recruited Iceburg and assigned his agents tasks in Water 7, including bringing Franky to meet Tom’s younger brother, Den. He then ordered Lucci to contact Spandine, leaving Spandam waiting anxiously to hear what Gawain wanted from his father.

  • Iceburg assessed Gawain’s offer, and Gawain praised his business and leadership abilities before bringing him into his service.
  • Gawain ordered Kalifa to show Shirahoshi around Water 7, Kaku to prepare a ship for a trip to Amazon Lily, Lucci to contact Spandine through Spandam, and Jabra to invite Franky.

  • Lucci told Spandam that Gawain wanted a message conveyed personally to Spandine, and Spandam hurried to connect the call to his father.

Ch. 97What Father and Son Really Means

Rob Lucci relayed Saint Gawain’s orders for Spandam to leave CP9 and work under Lucci and Iceburg, while Spandine eagerly accepted the arrangement. Jabra reached Franky’s dismantling yard to bring him to Gawain, but Franky attacked him and ordered the Franky Family to flee.

  • Spandine learned that Saint Gawain wanted Spandam transferred to serve under Rob Lucci and Iceburg, and he enthusiastically agreed.
  • Spandam embraced the chance to gain favor with Gawain and promised to leave for his new superiors immediately.
  • Rob Lucci reflected on his newfound status and rushed after Jabra to help recruit Franky, also known as Cutty Flam.
  • Jabra found Franky at his dismantling yard and ordered him to get dressed and come meet Saint Gawain.
  • Franky struck Jabra, then told the Franky Family to escape while he protected them.

Ch. 98Buster Call

Franky was forced to meet Gawain after Lucci threatened Water 7 with a Buster Call, and he found Iceburg and Den already at the mansion. Gawain discussed a simple black Dark Bird flag with Iceburg and welcomed Franky into the room.

  • Franky attacked Jabra, but Jabra used Tekkai to withstand his punches and revealed that Iceburg had joined Gawain's side.
  • Lucci told Franky that Den was with Gawain and threatened Water 7 with a Buster Call unless Franky came along, so Franky agreed to go.
  • Lucci made Franky change into a suit and escorted him with Jabra to Gawain's mansion.
  • Franky entered the study and saw Iceburg, Jinbe, Den, Gawain, and Gion, who was tending Gawain's blistered feet.
  • Gawain instructed Iceburg to make the black Dark Bird flag simple and easy to copy, then told Lucci and the others to sit and greeted Franky.

Ch. 99Headshot

Gawain brought Franky together with Iceburg and Den to discuss the Pluton blueprints and Fish-Man Tom’s legacy. After convincing Franky that he did not want Pluton, Gawain proposed restarting the Sea Train project, and Franky eagerly accepted the challenge of expanding it across the Grand Line.

  • Franky accused Iceburg of betraying Tom by revealing Pluton's blueprints, then threatened to destroy them with a bomb hidden in his body.
  • Lucci lunged at Franky, but Gion stopped him while Jinbe knocked Franky unconscious and scolded him for acting rashly.
  • Gawain told Franky that he had no interest in Pluton and that he wanted to revive Tom’s Sea Train project instead.
  • Gawain offered to fund Franky’s research so Sea Trains could eventually connect islands across the Grand Line.
  • Franky enthusiastically agreed that the Sea Train could overcome the Grand Line’s challenges and praised its ability to withstand Aqua Laguna.

Ch. 100What Is Genius

Gawain pressured Franky into building Sea Trains across the seas, using the promise of Spandam as leverage and forcing Franky to confront his guilt over Tom’s death. Franky accepted the task, and Gawain affirmed his exceptional talent.

  • Franky explained that building Sea Trains for every sea would require extensive research and custom designs, then demanded to know why he should help Gawain.
  • Gawain offered to hand Spandam over to Franky, prompting Franky to recount how Tom had sacrificed himself to save him and to pledge to build the Sea Trains.
  • Gawain struck Franky with cola and wine bottles while challenging his self-importance and insisting that other engineers could replace him.
  • Gawain revealed that Spandam was already on his way to Water 7, and Franky and Iceburg thanked him as Franky apologized.

Ch. 101Black Ice Terrace

Gawain assigned Iceburg, Franky, Den, and Lucci new projects to expand Water 7’s shipbuilding and Sea Train network and formed Lucci’s team, the Black Ice Terrace. After discussing the Shichibukai’s future name, Gawain was interrupted when Kalifa returned with Shirahoshi and Aqua Meat.

  • Gawain tasked Iceburg with building a huge ship and promoting Water 7 as a premium shipyard for Celestial Dragons, while Iceburg proposed limiting ship production and banning official sales to pirates.
  • Gawain ordered Franky and Den to build his ship with a swimming pool and study the Sea Train blueprints, aiming to expand the existing system from one track to three.
  • Gawain released Rob Lucci from CP9 and ordered him to form a young, independent team called the Black Ice Terrace that would answer only to Gawain.
  • Gawain told Jinbe that the Shichibukai would eventually need a new name as its membership expanded, but said the discussion was premature.
  • Kalifa returned with Shirahoshi, who brought Gawain spicy and sea-salt Aqua Meat to try.
