On a sweltering summer night, an old fan hanging above the doorframe spun with a wheeze, giving off a constant "buzzing" sound.
The noise provided mosquitoes with perfect cover, letting them bite people without a trace and driving Cao Guangyu into a furious stream of curses.
Jiang Qin had been bitten a few times too, but he had no time to curse. He simply pressed a cross-shaped mark into each bite with his fingernail, then continued sitting before his desk, staring at the data bars in the administrator backend. He had barely looked for a moment when the speaker on the side of the computer began beeping. Feng Nanshu's QQ avatar popped up in the lower-right corner of the screen: a tabby cat with a foolish look in its eyes.
"Good night."
"?"
Jiang Qin glanced down at the time and realized it was only eight in the evening. Looking out the window again, he saw that the sky had only just grown hazily dark, and he could still make out the outline of the poplar trees. How could Little Rich Woman possibly fall asleep at this hour?
Besides, they hadn't chatted at all before this. What was she playing at by suddenly sending him "Good night"? He didn't pay much attention to it, though. He typed "Good night" back and added a waving goodbye emoji.
"Are you going to bed this early?" Feng Nanshu's reply popped up.
Jiang Qin paused, then his fingers clattered across the keyboard. "Feng Nanshu, how dare you accuse me first? Weren't you the one who said good night?"
"Oh."
"If you're tired, go to bed early. We still have military training tomorrow, so don't stay up late."
Feng Nanshu was silent for a minute before sending another message: "Jiang Qin, someone is singing downstairs
