There were already plenty of signs proving that Potter had set his sights on Slughorn long ago.
Malfoy had no idea what Potter wanted to do, but after learning of it, he felt inexplicably restless.
For some reason, he had a vague premonition that Potter's plan would very likely conflict with his mother's, and there was nothing he could do to stop it.

"What are you thinking about?" Pansy plopped down onto the sofa beside Malfoy.
"How did your Apparition test go?" Malfoy changed the subject.
"You actually care about that?" Pansy said in mock surprise. She remembered that since returning to school last September, Draco had seemed indifferent to many things.
"I was just asking." Malfoy looked over the Daily Prophet at the two people on the sofa opposite him. "Goyle and Crabbe failed. They said the Apparition test was difficult."
"I thought it was pretty easy. Maybe they should have put more effort into practicing." Pansy lounged lazily against him, resting her head intimately on Malfoy's thigh.
"It's not just us who failed. Ron Weasley failed too," Crabbe tried to defend himself.
"Yeah, nearly half the students didn't pass," Goyle quickly added, as though eager to prove he was not an idiot.
"Oh, the Weasley family really does produce nothing but trash. I heard those three started learning Apparition earlier than everyone else, yet they still failed in the end." Draco played with Pansy's hair between his fingers.
"Ow, that hurts."
Pansy reached up to rub her scalp, glaring resentfully at Draco.
