With a creak, the old wooden door to the meeting room was suddenly pushed open. The noisy room fell silent at once, and the Death Eaters all turned to look at the newcomer.
"I thought you weren't coming today, Severus. Sit down, the meeting has already begun."
Under the shadows cast by the candles, a man in a black cloak adjusted to the light in the meeting room before stepping inside. His cold gaze swept over everyone present as he asked in a voice they could all hear, "What the hell are you doing?"
The atmosphere in the meeting room abruptly froze, and everyone wore expressions of surprise.
"Severus..."
Yaxley had just opened his mouth when Snape raised a hand to stop him.
"This is no longer the time to talk about that. How is your plan progressing? I seriously doubt there'll be many wizards left in this land if you keep carrying on like this."
Snape knew very well that more than half of the chaos outside in the British magical world had been caused by the people present. He also knew their purpose, but after the disorder had spread completely and the shops of Diagon Alley had been looted clean by Dark wizards, he realized that the situation was dire. If this continued, something terrible might happen.
"Most of those wizards oppose the Dark Lord. What becomes of them has nothing to do with us. Besides, we weren't the ones who told anyone to rob them."
Alecto did not care in the slightest. He and Snape were both old hands among the Death Eaters, and they helped Voldemort manage Hogwarts, so there was no need to worry about being struck from the Death Eaters' roster. Yet he still spoke from the standpoint of most Death Eaters, making Snape
