In Hogwarts' Headmaster's Office, Yaxley stared expressionlessly at Snape, apparently deeply dissatisfied that his old friend had wasted such a good opportunity.
"Perhaps you shouldn't have set up that bloody trap at all. You should've handed them directly over to me."
"They did their best. Even if the Ministry of Magic had handled it, the result would probably have been the same, if not worse." Snape remained calm, as though none of this had anything to do with him.
"You..."
Macnair's face twitched with fury, but there was no point pursuing the matter further. It would only make their relationship even more strained.
They needed to stand united.
"It wasn't entirely fruitless."
Alecto took a notebook from his pocket and slapped it onto the table.
"We used Veritaserum to pry open those little brats' mouths and got plenty of useful information. We even found out how to enter the Room of Requirement."
"Then why aren't you going to round up the rest of those little pests right now?" Macnair could not understand why they were still standing around chatting.
Snape glanced at the people present, making his meaning obvious.
That had been his original plan, but Yaxley and Macnair's arrival had not only delayed him, but also disrupted his plans.
The two were somewhat embarrassed, because that really did seem to be the case.
When they had arrived, Snape had apparently been about to do something.
"The Dementors and the others probably haven't withdrawn yet. I'll call them back." Macnair turned and fled at once.
"Once we drag those annoying rats out, no one at Hogwarts will dare defy us again."
