Shanna picked up the money pouch Albert had casually pushed over, weighed it in her palm, then opened it in front of Percy and poured out the gold Galleons to count them.
"What do you plan to do with this bounty?"
"Let them decide for themselves," Albert said without hesitation.
Although there were quite a few gold Galleons in the pouch, there had also been many people involved in the werewolf hunt that night. This bag of Galleons could only count as a consolation prize.
If the bounty were divided equally among everyone, each person would get one or two Galleons at most. That certainly would not satisfy anyone, so it was better to give them the choice directly.
Since they had made their own choice, surely they could not complain about it.
After Shanna took the pouch of Galleons away, Albert suddenly asked, "Have the results of the werewolf interrogations come out?"
The Ministry of Magic had never been particularly efficient, especially where Galleons were concerned. The fact that Percy had delivered the bounty for capturing werewolves so quickly clearly meant he had come to see Albert about something. "The result is that there is no result." Percy smiled bitterly. "The Aurors searched the werewolves' memories and found nothing useful. They did not even know what had happened."
"All the werewolves were like that?" Albert had already guessed it might turn out that way.
"They were all the same. I think someone deliberately erased their memories. There was absolutely nothing useful in them." Percy's bitter smile deepened, because he knew very well that such an answer would not satisfy anyone.
