Behind the bar, Serena looked up at the young wizards gathered together and poured her old friend Slughorn a glass of Honey Wine, speaking with considerable emotion.
Albert had become the unquestioned center of the crowd. Only he could bring all the contestants together. Not everyone was as gifted with languages as he was, able to communicate effortlessly with students from every school.

Professor Slughorn's words carried undisguised schadenfreude. Some things could be done in secret, but they could not be spoken aloud, much less brought into the open.
Every school knew that contestants had cheated throughout the history of the Potions Championship. It could even be said that cheating was a tradition of the Potions Championship, but no one ever said so publicly. They could not say it. Knowing it in their hearts was enough.
