After arranging the follow-up matters, Dumbledore quietly left Hogwarts Castle under cover of darkness. After Apparating to Hogsmeade, he headed toward the place where he had agreed to meet Ludo Bagman, Director of the Department of Magical Games and Sports.
"Good evening, Dumbledore. You're as punctual as ever."
As Dumbledore reached the entrance of the Three Broomsticks, he heard a familiar voice beside him. Ludo Bagman emerged from the pub and greeted Dumbledore with a gloomy expression.
Dumbledore glanced at the goblins behind Bagman, raised an eyebrow, and said, "It seems the past couple of days haven't been easy on you."
"Rita Skeeter's two articles have practically turned me into a laughingstock in the wizarding world." Bagman shrugged helplessly. "I honestly have no idea who sent me that thing. I suspect it was the handiwork of some Hogwarts student."
"I imagine it was merely a prank," Dumbledore said gently.
"A prank?"
Bagman seemed to recall something. The anger that had been building inside him instantly deflated, and he covered his face with one hand. "It's ruined me."
"Very well, let's find Bartie first. He seems to have fallen ill recently. I had not wished to disturb his rest, but there is little choice. As you know, the Second Task is far more dangerous than the First Task. We must ensure the Champions' safety as much as possible. If another accident occurs, the Triwizard Tournament may be permanently discontinued."
In truth, changing certain arrangements for the Triwizard Tournament required prior discussion with the Ministry of Magic, and that was one of Barty Crouch's responsibilities. They had to inform him no matter what.
