Not long after parting ways with Potter and the other two, Moody went to the Headmaster's Office to ask about Divination.
In truth, pretending not to know and leaving the matter untouched would have been the wisest choice. That way, he would not make mistakes or risk exposing himself.
But Moody still decided to seek out Dumbledore, intending to use the matter to gauge the other man's skill in Divination.
Albert Anderson was simply too uncanny. Moody felt threatened by him.
As for the risk, Moody did not think there was much danger of being exposed through Divination. If that Mudblood's Divination was truly so accurate, how could Dumbledore possibly have avoided asking him for readings? Yet the boy still had not seen through his disguise.
Moreover, if there really was a way to find Peter Pettigrew, Moody's nature meant he would definitely be willing to give it a try. There was little risk, but the potential gains were enormous.
"Alastor, what is it?" Dumbledore looked up at his old friend.
"I ran into Harry Potter just now. He said that miraculous kid Anderson is very good at Divination. Did you know about that?" Moody pulled over an armchair and sat opposite the headmaster.
"I have heard something of it," Dumbledore said noncommittally.
"Then could we ask him to divine Peter and Crouch's whereabouts?" Moody leaned on his cane. "I don't put much stock in Divination, but Anderson truly is an extraordinary fellow. I think he might bring us an unexpected surprise. Even if he fails, it is no great loss. At least it would be better than the Ministry of Magic searching everywhere without a clue."
