A Transmigrant Who Kept a Diary, and a Half-Awakened Raccoon Maid ~ Begging for Follows
Douluo Continent, Fanos Province, Notting City.
The morning sunlight slipped quietly through the gaps in the curtains into the still-dim room. The figure on the bed turned over, completely unaware of it. His steady breathing showed that he was still deep in a pleasant dream.
"Young Master? Are you awake? It's time to get up, or it will affect your plans for today."
As a woman's voice sounded from outside the door, the figure on the bed stirred. He reached a hand out from beneath the covers and rubbed his eyes, his voice still somewhat dazed. "Come in, Sister Xiu'er."
With the sound of the handle turning, the door opened. A girl of around ten entered the room, drew back the curtains, walked to the bed, pulled aside the blanket, helped the boy sit up, and began changing the newly awakened boy's clothes.
Only after he was fully dressed did the boy finally shake off his grogginess. By then, the girl had already brought over some water, dampened a towel, and begun cleaning his face.
"Sister Xiu'er, what time is it?"
The boy accepted her care and only opened his eyes to ask after the warm towel left his face.
"Young Master, it's eight thirty. After breakfast, we should arrive at just the right time."
After wringing out the towel, the girl called Xiu'er set it aside and answered softly.
"Mm. Go on ahead. I'll brush my teeth and come over in five minutes."
The boy stood and gave his instructions. Just as the girl was about to leave with the washbasin, he seemed to remember something. He turned and added, "Sister Xiu'er, remember to change your hair accessory, or wear a different hat. I don't like the way those people look at you."
The girl paused briefly upon hearing him. She turned back with a smile and replied, "All right, Xiao Li."
After the girl closed the door and left, the boy slowly walked to the table, opened a drawer, and took out a notebook.
After opening it, he flipped through its contents, muttering something under his breath as he headed toward the washstand.
"Whenever the weather turns overcast or rainy, an itchy, numb sensation appears along both sides of the ribs and gradually intensifies. It lasts for more than two hours and occurs once at noon and once at midnight. Every late night, around the third watch, piercing pain like needle pricks appears at the crown of the head and soles of the feet, accompanied by full-body convulsions lasting at least an hour."
He set the notebook aside and closed it. As he brushed his teeth, the boy silently recited the secret that belonged to him.
After spitting out the water and drying his hands, the boy picked up the notebook again. Looking over the entries written in a mixture of square Chinese characters and pinyin, he confirmed that they matched what he had recited. Then he placed the notebook back in the drawer and walked out with satisfaction.
(Note: The writing of the Douluo world differs from Chinese. The diary will be destroyed after the later awakening.) That was right—he was a transmigrant. No, more precisely, he was a reincarnator. After dying, he had been reborn into Douluo Continent, only awakening the memories of his previous life at the age of three.
Come to think of it, he had not gone through the usual experience of getting hit by a truck. He had merely felt a sharp pain in his heart while asleep. By the time his memories became coherent again, he had already become a three-year-old child.
The contents written in his notebook and recited by him just now were the memories of his previous life—the so-called Immortal Herb Code.
He could remember them thanks to something that happened before his transmigration. On the night before he crossed over, one of his close friends—a damn webnovel author—had invited him out for drinks. While venting about life, the man had brought up his next book.
His next novel had happened to be a Douluo fanfic. As they talked about the return on investment in fantasy worlds, they had joked about Dugu Bo.
Then, as if casually, the man recited the research material he had recently prepared in the form of a rhyme. He even patted Han Li on the shoulder and told him to remember it well, saying it was a tremendous opportunity. If he really transmigrated into Douluo, it would be the code to becoming a god. Han Li had not taken it seriously at the time, but now it seemed the man's words had come true.
At that thought, Han Li's mouth twitched. He suspected that bastard had done it deliberately. Maybe he really had been some big shot who had arranged all this for him.
Otherwise, the coincidence was simply too absurd.
Fortunately, he had been alone to begin with. Being thrown into a supernatural world was better than working himself to death. Well, luckily he had not bought a house, so his losses were minimized. He just felt a little sorry for his landlord; the rent on his room would probably drop quite a bit in the future.
When he arrived at the dining room, he pulled Sister Xiu'er—the girl from earlier—down to sit with him and eat breakfast. Before long, his thoughts drifted elsewhere again.
It was quite a coincidence. His name had been the same in both lives: Han Li.
The only difference was that his previous name had been given by the director of the orphanage, while in this life, it came from his parents' surnames.
His father was named Han Li, and his mother was named Li Feiyu. When he had first learned their names, he had been stunned for a long while. He forcibly suppressed the urge to complain and did not reveal anything unusual.
People had teased him plenty about his name in his previous life. He had never expected this life to be even more ridiculous, with his parents directly sharing his name. It made him feel as though something was watching him from the shadows.
But then again, he was in Douluo Continent. Oh, then it was fine. This place simply could not bear something like karma.
Besides, he no longer needed to worry about his parents. After awakening the memories of his previous life, he discovered that the parents of this body had passed away not long before. That was also why his memories had awakened early. Overwhelmed by grief, this body had run a high fever for half a month before he regained his senses.
His parents had been deacons of Spirit Hall. Unlike Su Yuntao, however, they belonged to the Spirit Hall that governed all of Fanos Province. Both were Soul Ancestors, one at level 42 and the other at level 43. They were mobile enforcers and the backbone of the effort to eliminate Fallen Soul Masters.
While patrolling, the couple and their squad had discovered two Fallen Soul Masters slaughtering villagers for a sacrifice. With no time to report the matter and despite the enemy having a Soul King, they had forcibly intervened to interrupt the ritual and chosen to fight head-on.
The result was that both sides had nearly perished together. Even his mother, the highest-level and strongest among them, only managed to deliver the sole surviving girl to the nearest Spirit Hall, leave behind instructions for her young son to be sent back to their hometown, and then pass away.
Thinking of this, Han Li turned to glance at the girl eating beside him. Sister Xiu'er was the survivor his mother had saved. She should have awakened her martial soul that year, but because of that incident, her martial soul had awakened incorrectly. She had become something like the Cat Woman Ning Fengzhi bought at the auction house in the original story, except her martial soul was a small raccoon.
With Spirit Hall's tacit approval, the girl, who was considered half-crippled, stubbornly chose to become his maid.
Seeing Han Li looking at her, Xiu'er was briefly stunned before revealing a sweet smile.
"Young Master, are you done eating? Shall we set off now?"
"Mm, let's go. As agreed, we're going to Notting Academy today to take a look at the start of the school term." Han Li gave Xiu'er, who had already hidden her ears, a once-over before heading outside first.
"Young Master, you really don't need to hurry. There's only a week left until your awakening. Even if you miss the enrollment period, the academy won't refuse to accept you."
The girl's voice drifted softly from behind him.
"Mm, I'm not in a hurry, Sister Xiu'er. I just want to see this year's new students enrolling. Maybe there will be some future classmates among them, and I might get to see something interesting."
As Han Li spoke while walking ahead, a strange expression appeared on his face, like a weasel that had successfully stolen a chicken.
New book—please follow along. If you're interested, you can also invest in it. The earlier you invest, the higher the returns.
Since this is a Douluo fanfic, after posting for a few days, I'll go ask an editor for a contract.
