You've Made Me Suffer So Much!
Faced with Shi Li's accusation, Han Yuri immediately denied it. "Warden, I've been wronged! I may have had some conflicts with Luo Jun, but he was the one who started trouble and made things difficult for me. How could I hire someone to kill him over something so minor? Besides, if I had a guilty conscience, why would I admit that I had conflicts with Luo Jun... And I don't have the means to help a prisoner escape either!"
As he spoke, Han Yuri nearly shed tears, as though he had truly suffered a grave injustice. "Sir, you can investigate my background. My family are all law-abiding citizens. I only began coming into contact with Vital Energy at the start of this year, and I've cultivated for less than half a year. How could I possibly possess such advanced techniques?"
Shi Li looked at Han Yuri. What the kid said made perfect sense, but... it made too much sense. His train of thought was exceptionally clear, as if he had prepared these excuses long ago.
"Then how do you explain this?" Shi Li took out another transparent plastic bag. Inside was a slightly wrinkled one-inch photograph, clearly showing Luo Jun.
"This..." The moment Han Yuri saw the photograph, his pupils suddenly dilated.
This was the photo he had given Wu Youde. How had it ended up here? Had Martial Uncle Wu been captured? If Wu Youde had confessed and implicated him, then no excuse would work!
Though turmoil raged in his heart, Han Yuri still forced himself to remain calm. "Another photo of Luo Jun? What does this mean?"
"This was found on Wu Youde," Shi Li said with a cold sneer. "He has already confessed everything. Are you still going to keep denying it?"
Martial Uncle had confessed? Han Yuri swallowed. That shouldn't be possible...
The house Han Yuri had promised Wu Youde had been both an inducement and a threat. He knew information about Wu Youde's wife and children, enough to make Wu Youde wary. Han Yuri's Master had said of this Martial Uncle Wu that although he had committed countless evils, he cared most deeply about his family and was an especially unyielding man... Based on his Master's assessment, Han Yuri believed that Martial Uncle would not betray him.
No, I can only assume he didn't betray me. This Warden is bluffing!
"That's impossible!" Han Yuri flatly denied it. "I don't know him at all. What could he have confessed? He must be slandering me!"
If he admitted it, it would all be over. If he stubbornly denied everything, there was still a sliver of hope!
"Still talking tough?" Shi Li let out a cold snort. "Didn't you give him this photograph? Wasn't it cropped from a group graduation photo of you and your classmates?"
"He says I gave it to him, so that means I gave it to him? Plenty of people have that group photo!" Han Yuri argued. "Are my fingerprints on it?"
They really weren't. Han Yuri was quite meticulous. Afraid of leaving behind evidence, he had worn gloves whenever he met Wu Youde, so there definitely would not be any of his fingerprints on the photo. The photo of Wu Youde that he had kept, along with the remaining group photo after Luo Jun had been cut out, had also been burned and disposed of.
Even if Wu Youde truly identified him, there was no substantive evidence. He could simply claim someone had deliberately framed him!
Especially after seeing this photograph, Han Yuri became even more convinced that Wu Youde had not exposed him. They had probably deduced from the photograph that it involved one of Luo Jun's classmates, then arrested him.
Moreover, Han Yuri caught a detail. Shi Li had said the photograph was found on Wu Youde, but he had not mentioned whether Wu Youde was alive or dead. A Foundation Establishment Realm fourth-layer expert would not be easy to capture alive! Could it be that Wu Youde had been killed while resisting arrest, and they had found the photograph on his corpse?
With that thought, he became even bolder and shouted, "And where is this Wu Whatever? What right does he have to slander me? Bring him out and let him confront me!!"
Shi Li narrowed his eyes at Han Yuri. He truly admired the kid's intelligence and composure.
But he was still too inexperienced. His performance was somewhat too deliberate.
"Fine, I'll let him confront you!"
Hearing that, Han Yuri was slightly startled. Wu Youde was really coming? Had he truly betrayed me?
Cui Zhen left the classroom. A moment later, there was a knock on the door. Cui Zhen pushed it open and entered, followed by someone else.
"Han... You've made me suffer so much!"
The man headed straight for Han Yuri as soon as he entered. When Han Yuri saw his face clearly, he was horrified. "Luo Jun, you're still alive!"
"I won't die even if you do!" Without another word, Luo Jun charged up and kicked Han Yuri, chair and all, sending him crashing over!
"Why are you hitting me?!" Wearing shackles made it difficult for Han Yuri to get up. He lay on the floor and screamed, but Luo Jun ignored him, straddled him, and slapped him hard across the face!
This scene left everyone else in the room stunned. Even Shi Li looked surprised.
The confrontation between Luo Jun and Han Yuri had been arranged in advance. They had only intended to use Luo Jun to provoke Han Yuri. They had helped Luo Jun organize some questions beforehand and instructed him on a few conversational techniques, hoping to make Han Yuri reveal a flaw.
But no one had expected that Luo Jun, who had eagerly agreed to cooperate earlier, would refuse to follow the script the moment he entered and kick Han Yuri straight to the floor.
This kid was interesting...
Luo Jun swung both arms, slapping left and right with loud smacks. Han Yuri could only barely block with his shackled hands. Seeing that he could not reason with this brute, he could only call for help from the people around him. "Examiner Yu, Warden, you two prison guards, are you just going to stand there while he hits me?!"
Yet Yu Qiudi was currently dozing with her head on the desk. At some point, Shi Li had lowered his head and begun flipping through documents, as if he had not heard the plea for help at all. As for Cui Zhen and Xiang Muzi, the former had consciously gone outside to watch the Great Door, while the latter stood by the window admiring the scenery.
"Ah, the sunset at my alma mater is still so beautiful..."
Han Yuri cursed in fury, "You're all government officials! How can you let someone beat me up?!"
"They're government officials, but I'm not!" Luo Jun cursed as he continued beating him. "This is purely a personal grudge between us! You're really fucking ruthless, kid. You actually hired someone to kill me. You didn't expect my life to be this tough, did you?"
"Don't slander me! I didn't hire anyone to kill you! They're just making wild guesses..." Han Yuri retorted while fending him off, already speaking incoherently.
"If you didn't hire him, why did that Wu Youde mention your name?!" Luo Jun found an opening and punched Han Yuri in the left eye, immediately giving him a black eye.
"Ow! You're talking nonsense! If you've got the guts, let me confront him!"
"He can't come!" Luo Jun sneered. "I already counter-killed that Wu bastard!"
"What?!" Han Yuri was shocked. "You're lying! He was a Foundation Establishment Realm fourth-layer expert. How could he possibly die at your hands?"
"Oh?" Luo Jun suddenly stopped. Shi Li also raised his head and fixed his eyes on Han Yuri.
"How did you know Wu Youde was at the fourth layer of the Foundation Establishment Realm?" Shi Li stared sharply at Han Yuri. "I never told you his exact realm!"
Han Yuri froze. Luo Jun rose from him and obediently stood to one side, looking mockingly at this Young Master Han.
"W-Warden..." Han Yuri scrambled to his feet. "Didn't you tell me? I think I heard someone mention it just now? Someone must have brought up his realm..."
Shi Li pointed to the surveillance camera in the room. "There's a recording there. Would you like me to play it for you?"
Han Yuri's Whole Body trembled.
"Of course, I have a more convenient method." Shi Li glanced at the female prison guard by the window. Xiang Muzi walked over to Han Yuri with a smile and raised a hand to place it on his head.
Han Yuri only felt a strange energy enter through the Crown of the Head. Then his head grew light and floaty, as if his soul were about to leave his body.
"Muzi's Heart Refining Realm ability is related to memories." Shi Li looked at Han Yuri and spoke slowly. "She can forcibly extract your memories, but doing so will cause irreversible damage to your soul. At best, your intelligence will decline and your limbs will become numb. At worst, you'll become mentally disabled, or even a vegetable."
Cold sweat poured down Han Yuri's face when he heard that, and his body began trembling uncontrollably. Yet he still tried to talk tough. "D-Don't lie to me. If you had a method like that, you would've used it long ago..."
"Extracting memories requires my signed authorization," Shi Li said coldly. "If the extracted memories ultimately prove that you are innocent, I will bear full responsibility. That's why I won't use this method lightly unless I am absolutely certain."
"So? Do you want to experience what it feels like to have your soul extracted?"
Shi Li's words carried a chilling pressure that made Han Yuri lower his head. Cold sweat streamed down his face, and his breathing grew rapid.
"It's all your fault..." Han Yuri muttered with his head lowered. "It's all your fault, you damned orphan! It's all your fault!"
Under the weight of the evidence and pressure, Han Yuri finally broke down completely. Roaring, he charged at Luo Jun. "You're obviously trash! Why does Ling Xin speak up for you? Why do you get to cultivate Vital Energy just like me? Why do you get to take the same exam as me? Are you worthy? Do you have the right?!"
Watching Young Master Han charge toward him, Luo Jun's gaze turned cold as he slowly clenched his fist.
Bang!
With a crisp crack, the shackled Han Yuri flew backward. He slammed into the wall with a thud and fell down, his head lolling to one side as blood poured from his mouth, mixed with shattered teeth.
Only then did Cui Zhen walk over and help up Han Yuri, whose face had been beaten out of shape. Han Yuri was still cursing, but his words were now slurred, reduced to incomprehensible babbling.
"Restrain him and hand him over to the Tribunal," Shi Li ordered. Cui Zhen and Xiang Muzi escorted Han Yuri away.
Looking at Luo Jun's bloodied fist, Shi Li nodded. "You had the ability to kill him outright just now, didn't you?"
Luo Jun turned back with a foolish grin. "How could I? I'm only at the second layer of the Body Refinement Realm, one layer below him. If he hadn't been wearing shackles, I couldn't have successfully fought back..."
"Everyone's talents differ. Realm does not completely determine strength." Shi Li revealed an awkward smile. "I don't believe someone who could counter-kill Wu Youde is as simple as he looks on the surface."
As he spoke, Shi Li stood and gathered up the documents. "That punch of yours spared not only Han Yuri, but also yourself. I hope that after you gain great power in the future, you will not forget the punch you threw today."
With that, he got up and left the classroom.
