The college students had originally come out to work part-time and earn some living expenses because their families were poor. But after joining, they realized that although they had studied for nearly four years, all they knew was how to design clothes. They only had a general understanding of the factory's production process and had no idea how much work was required to ensure that production proceeded without errors.
