Background / History

Medusa ruled the Snake-People of the Tagor Desert, a people feared by neighboring human empires. During an earlier human–Snake-People war, she killed three Jia Ma Empire Dou Ling experts. Her search for the Azure Lotus Core Flame stemmed from a desperate goal: becoming a Dou Zong powerful enough to secure a future for her people beyond the harsh desert. She estimated that directly using the flame offered only a thirty-percent chance of success, with failure meaning death 57 76.

When Xiao Yan absorbed the Azure Lotus Core Flame before she could claim it, Medusa pursued him relentlessly and was severely injured by his Three-Colored Fire Lotus. Their conflict brought them to a glacier, where Xiao Yan discovered Medusa's frozen sister, Cai Die 61.

Medusa had sealed Cai Die after Cai Die was killed under Snake-People tribal circumstances. Xiao Yan detected Cai Die's lingering companion soul and used the Nine Nether Golden Ancestral Fire to revive her. Although Medusa initially tried to kill Xiao Yan, Cai Die's revival exposed Medusa's deep attachment to her sister and caused her to spare him 62.

Later, Medusa accepted Xiao Yan's proposal to use the Life Spirit Flame rather than the Azure Lotus Core Flame for her breakthrough. The procedure activated her exceptional bloodline, subjected her to lightning tribulation, and ultimately allowed her to become a Dou Zong 76 77 83.

Her alliance with Xiao Yan gradually became personal as they pursued a homeland for the Snake-People. She supported the Jia Ma Empire against invading forces, helped negotiate the migration to the Ten Thousand Miles Poison Land, and fought beside Xiao Yan against the Blood Moon Demon Lord 93 94 101.

Medusa is cold, proud, and intensely protective of the Snake-People. She is willing to risk her life for their future and reacts violently to threats against them. Her authority is absolute enough that even Snake-People commanders and elders fear her, yet she must still account for the Eight Great Tribes' internal power structure 76 92.

She is notably domineering in personal matters, as shown by her ultimatum to Hai Bo Dong over his relationship with Cai Die. However, Cai Die's resurrection reveals an openly emotional and vulnerable side: Medusa embraces her sister and cries upon seeing her alive 62 64.

Her relationship with Xiao Yan changes from murderous hostility to guarded trust, partnership, and jealousy. She frequently denies affection or threatens him, but repeatedly protects him, fights alongside him, and accepts his help in evolving 83 95 102 110 198.
