On December 31, X778, the weather was clear. Fairy Tail closed for the day, and everyone gathered at the training grounds to watch the final ranking match of X778. The stands were already packed with guild members. Although it was still early, that did nothing to dampen their enthusiasm.
"Lucy, good luck!"
"Gajeel, don't lose to Lucy!"
Cheers rose and fell from the stands, and the atmosphere was so heated it seemed ready to overturn the entire training grounds.
Lucy and Gajeel stood on opposite sides of the arena, waiting for Allen to announce the start of the battle.
