Before the knight could figure out what had happened, more and more reinforcements arrived on the battlefield. Some charged straight toward the fiercely contested breaches in the walls, shoved aside the defenders, and engaged the Barbarian forces there. Others rotated with the defending troops, replacing the exhausted soldiers and continuing the fight against the Barbarians.
These newly arrived troops were clearly elite. Not only was their armor coverage vastly superior to that of the defenders—far beyond what ordinary noble private armies could compare to—but every soldier was also highly skilled in combat.
From the knight's observations, these soldiers did not struggle when facing the terrifying Barbarian warriors one-on-one. Moreover, their discipline and coordination were far stronger.
Their arrival brought immediate changes. Quite a few reinforcements even launched countercharges directly at the Barbarians, completely driving them out of the breaches and stabilizing the previously precarious defensive line.
The reinforcements' performance astonished the knight even more. He had known that reinforcements would arrive soon, but he had never expected such a powerful elite force.
At the very least, during the earlier fighting, they had seen quite a few reinforcement units brought by other nobles. Yet those troops were not much stronger than the defenders. Only a few could gain a slight advantage against the Barbarians, or at best fight them evenly.
He had never seen an elite force capable of nearly crushing the Barbarian army as they were doing now.
The knight himself had considerable military experience and had participated in the Civil War with the Northern Alliance Army. At a glance, he could tell that these elite reinforcements were anything but ordinary. In his experience, only the personal troops of a great noble could possess such strength.
Just as he was trying to find out where this force had come from,
