Strip the Nobles of Their Military Power

Once they learned that Grand Duke Mora had issued the order, and with Geis, an influential member of the Ducal House, backing it, Viscount Borey finally forced through the decision to root out traitors within the army.

After all, Legion Commander Kimberley had always been a staunch supporter of Viscount Borey, while Legion Commander Rabia strongly supported the grand duke's order. Even if the nobles wanted to object, there was little they could do.

At the meeting, Viscount Borey assigned the First Regiment of the Imperial Guard Legion to assist the Silver Maple Secret Guard with the operation.

After the meeting, the Silver Maple Secret Guard, carrying the grand duke's written order, began moving through the Main Camp alongside soldiers from the First Regiment of the Imperial Guard Legion. Given the power of life and death, these assassins, who obeyed only the grand duke's orders, became an execution squad.

The three legions of the Duchy's Direct Legion fared better. At most, a few loose-lipped soldiers were dragged out and executed; officers were rarely punished.

The two legions of the Coalition of Nobles, however, were in serious trouble. Apart from nobles of high standing, there was no one the Silver Maple Secret Guard would not arrest or kill. More than a dozen battalion commanders were imprisoned or executed, as were dozens of company commanders. Hundreds, if not thousands, of ordinary soldiers were caught up in it as well.

An internal purge on this scale turned the entire camp into a bloodbath and left everyone fearing for their lives.

Eventually, even several regimental commanders were arrested. Viscount Borey detained them on suspicion of being spies and forbade them any contact with the outside world.
