"My lord Marquis, we're here!"
The group had not walked for long. They crossed only two of the town's main streets and traveled a little over three hundred meters before reaching Victor's destination.
At first, Victor found it a little strange. After all, the town had a population of over four thousand, yet the town center seemed rather small.
But after giving it some thought, Victor understood. Although the population exceeded four thousand, twenty percent of them were troops stationed here by the lord's command. Most of the time, they were either patrolling or training in the barracks. The others lived in residential areas on the outskirts of town or in villages near the Sandscale Fruit plantations, so the central district naturally did not need to be large.
With his doubts resolved, Victor turned his attention to the area before him.
Before him stood a tall wall, more than two meters high. Its lower half was made of cement, while iron railings rose above it. Just judging by the wall alone, its standards already surpassed those of the Lord's Mansion.
The cement base beneath the railings was also quite high. Even with Victor's height of over 1.9 meters, he was only a head taller than it. By visual estimate, the cement section stood around 1.7 meters high. Together with the dense iron railings, it would not be easy for an ordinary person to climb over the wall and see inside.
Even if someone tried to scale the wall with a ladder or something similar, the spikes atop the iron railings would make them think twice. Victor also noticed guards constantly patrolling outside the wall, all but eliminating such possibilities.
Standing outside the Research Institute's wall, Victor estimated that the stretch before him alone was more than seven hundred meters long.
