Once the Barbarians' complete withdrawal was confirmed, the squads that had carried out the night raid withdrew from their respective Small Fortresses without trouble.
They needed to return to the Main Fortress and report to Marvin. They also had to tally the raid's successes and losses. After all, a great deal had happened afterward, and the squads had lost contact with one another.
Around the same time, the Main Fortress received some of Saster Squad's soldiers: the wounded men Saster had sent back ahead of the others.
The lightly wounded men had brought the seriously wounded back along their original route, evading the Barbarian troops searching for them. They finally reached the foot of the Main Fortress shortly after four in the morning and, with help from its defenders, quickly entered.
As soon as Marvin heard, he went to see them. The fortress's medical personnel had already taken away the three seriously wounded men and those with more severe minor injuries. The remaining lightly wounded men, who could speak clearly, told Marvin the details of the operation.
Marvin was relieved to learn that Saster had not been hurt and that his squad had suffered only minor losses. He offered the wounded men words of encouragement and promised to deliver their rewards as soon as all the raiding troops returned.
He also instructed his adjutant to tell the fortress's medical personnel to do everything they could for the wounded and get them back to health as quickly as possible. A dedicated medical team was stationed at the gate, ready to receive and treat any wounded raiders the moment they arrived.
As the other raiding units returned to the Main Fortress one after another, the reports and details of the previous night's raid grew clearer.
