Without a doubt, the environment of Shadow Land was terrifying.
A pitch-black, lightless night sky, an icy wind that cut to the bone, strange and mournful howls that occasionally echoed through the darkness... and the endless lightning and thunder. It was an ominous scene heralding an approaching storm, yet the storm that threatened to arrive never quite came down in full force.
Shadow Land had no "citizens" in the ordinary sense, so there were no commoners to be seen along the roads. In that empty, silent wilderness, there was nothing but various monsters.
The earth here was gray or black, and trees and bushes grew all around. But their shapes were twisted like skeletons, and every plant was black. Whenever lightning flared in the sky, a moment's distraction could easily make one mistake them for shadow monsters baring their fangs and claws.
—It looked like a world covered by a black-and-white filter. The entire world had only three colors: black, white, and gray. Black and gray overwhelmingly predominated, making it resemble a gloomy black-and-white movie, or a black-and-white comic drawn with filthy ink.
The only things that seemed truly "alive" were the warriors of Shadow Land, along with outsiders such as Iver and Arsene.
The colors of their clothes, hair, and eyes were the only colors in this gloomy world. Even so, some of the warriors were gradually becoming "black and white." The price—or perhaps the blessing—of living in Shadow Land for a long time was to be gradually tainted by the power of shadow, ultimately and irreversibly becoming a form of elemental life.
Judging only by their clothes, skin, pupils, and hair... the more color someone had lost, the longer they had probably stayed here. Of course, it might also have been because they were too weak to resist
