As expected, the "Guard Line" driven by those police officers did not dare cross the true Guard Line Aleister had left behind.
When Aleister returned to the surface, the dilapidated house was still empty.
She cautiously extended a hand, signaling the talkative Mirror Demon to keep quiet, then drew a rune in the air.
The simple First Level ritual, "Wind Listening," activated without materials. The sounds outside flowed in with the wind and reached Aleister's ears in fragments. With her Fourth Level ability, Aleister could use this ritual to easily hear conversations more than a street away, so long as they had no soundproofing barrier prepared.
"...Hmph."
She listened intently for a long while, then narrowed her eyes slightly. "These goblins... they're really asking to be riddled with bullets."
Although she had long known that goblins were vile, only now had she truly heard the story of the first person involved.
Aleister once again realized the difference between Avalon and Stibnite in terms of grassroots execution.
Although the upper echelons were rotten and depraved, the Watchers and Inspectors of Avalon still believed in the knightly legends from the kingdom's founding.
If they encountered a problem like this, they would charge in with the resolve to die—and in fact, quite a few Inspectors had died for that very reason. To them, dying for the Queen and for Avalon was a lofty honor. To knights who had not been corrupted by Lloyd's, honor far outweighed life.
Even the son of a minister could die to cover the civilians' retreat—not to mention whether such a death had been worthwhile, but at least there was nothing wrong with his heart.
To Stibnite's public security officers, however, this was merely a job. They had neither the resolve nor the faith to die for the Queen.
