Lily followed Antler as they wandered through the enormous building. She felt out the structure of the space.
It looked square and orderly, yet it was like a maze—any of the four walls in each room might contain a door or passageway. However, there were almost no rooms connected in all four directions. Most led to only two or three.
According to Antler, this seemed to be the standard architectural style of the Giant Dynasty. There were no L-shaped corridor bends; the entire building was composed of square and rectangular rooms.
It was said to be because giants had blind spots in their vision, making them vulnerable to ambushes when passing corners.
The sturdy walls and maze-like winding routes would force a large force to split up upon entering, compressing them into a very small, narrow "bundle" of people. Giants, however, disdained the use of traps. Otherwise, Lily felt that traps alone would have been enough to take out a large number of people.
—In the end, the giants probably really couldn't be ambushed.
Because Lily had clearly realized that Antler was already lost—they had passed through the same room three times, yet Antler had no idea that they were lost.
Lily, on the other hand, was gradually figuring out the route.
The reason they got lost was simple. The giants' craftsmanship seemed rather poor, resulting in walls of different thicknesses. They had not built the entire structure first and then divided it into rooms. Instead, they seemed to have built it one room at a time, expanding outward into a complete building.
Because of this, the four walls of the same room might all be different thicknesses. This caused some rooms to be misaligned—turn left, turn left, turn left, turn left, and although they should have gone in a
