In the blinding snowstorm, Lily struggled to move forward.
The chill spread inward from her skin, penetrating deep into her flesh and marrow.
Her body was stiff as a puppet, yet a scorching desire smoldered in her heart. Like a log that had been lit and then covered, it quietly radiated tremendous heat and black smoke, scorching her heart.
Lily felt her blood grow viscous, like glue or sludge. It shackled her body, winding around her flesh like ropes... turning her into a prisoner.
I'm a prisoner trapped inside my own shell!
Scarlet flames ignited once more in the depths of Lily's pupils.
The regret of losing the book, the fury provoked by that rabbit, the grievance of trekking alone through the snow... Negative emotions became fuel, scorching her soul and making her blood grow even more viscous.
Meanwhile, the giant white rabbit leaped through the snowstorm with astonishing agility. Whenever Lily was about to lose sight of it, it would stop and look back mockingly. Whenever Lily was about to catch up, it would leap away again, making her feel her blood pressure rise higher and higher.
At first, her rationality was still urging her to calm down.
But after chasing it for a while, even her rationality declared, To hell with it—catch it!
Yet the freezing wind outside was so bitter, and her body was so stiff. By now, simply running made her hear creaking aches coming from every part of her body... She had already reached her limit.
Just then, Lily subconsciously glanced back.
To her surprise, the path behind her had become an expanse of untouched snow without a single footprint. She looked down, only to find messy footprints all around her... as if she had merely been running in circles.
