"Haunted Inn?"
The priest held the bread in both hands, deep in thought. "I seem to remember something. Let me think carefully..."
Iver, who had asked the question, sat quietly to one side, drinking tea.
As the only priest in Eagle Cape Village, the priest's family was fairly wealthy. At the very least, the tea he brought out for his guests was quite good. It was not as fine as the tea Iver had drunk on Glass Island, but it could still be considered excellent.
The old priest's breakfast was delicious as well—pork with a little fat and tomatoes, sugar, beer, and butter stewed until tender, then ground into a meat sauce. The sauce was spread between slices of bread... Though the bread had been left overnight, it had been reheated. The flour used to make it was not particularly fine, so it was hardly soft and sweet, but even the reheated whole-grain toast carried a rich fragrance of wheat.
Rounding it up, it might even count as a sort of pork sandwich with tomato sauce.
The meal was self-serve. The bread and meat sauce were prepared, and everyone spread the sauce themselves.
Perhaps because the food was still warm, it tasted unexpectedly good—at least better than the sandwiches sold on the streets of Glass Island. Even Sherlock ate several more slices.
By now, Iver and Sherlock were both full, while Lily had only sampled a little. They were all waiting for Hai Na to finish.
Hai Na quickly forgot the strange incident that had startled her earlier and happily introduced the food to Iver again. "This was my favorite thing to eat when I was little!
"I don't know whether they have this dish outside or what it's called, but we Children liked to call it 'Bishop's Bread.' Someone
