Background

Chen Wuya was born “among the common streets” and raised amid displacement. He failed the imperial examinations and was cast out of the academy after repeatedly talking back to his teachers, leaving him branded as useless and incapable by those around him. He later found tattered cultivation pages in a mass grave and developed a reversed, incomplete martial method from them. 44 341

Old Wu Tou connects Chen’s art to the extinct Azure Waves Sect and its Azure Waves Counter-Current Art, a forbidden practice based on broken meridians, reversed energy, and counter-current flow. The sect’s destruction, and whether Chen is its survivor or chosen inheritor, remain uncertain; Chen himself treats the claims with skepticism. 44
